Hi Christopher, I enjoyed today's hunt. Congrats on getting the sealed bags with the memorial 50p. I had a similar experience to yourself. I was in Horsham on 11th January and walked into Barclays and asked if they had £150 of 50p coins. I waited a minute or two and the teller handed over 15 sealed bags of memorial 50ps. I couldn't believe it. I've opened one of the bags, put one 50p in my collectors book, and given some to family and friends. The remaining 14 sealed bags are keeping each other company in the corner of my room!

I had the same dilemma with our great American women's quarters. I would get bank rolls of uncirculated quarters and just hold on and wait for production figures. The I found out that each coin had more than 250 million minted I said screw it. I picked out the best quality coins and put the rest into circulation.
Hi Christopher i'm sure that you will find a King Charles 50p loose in your next £250 in 50p coin hunt but a fair play decision in keeping the other ones in the two sealed bags and the star find for me is that Olympic Gymnastics 50p and the Memorial 50ps too.
I say keep the Memorial 50p in the bags! You will eventually find one loose in change! Great hunt!

I just randomly found this vid tonight and recently I received a King Charles III 50p from the Post Office in my change. I'm gonna keep it cos I just think it's interesting. Quite right not to open the sealed bags. The King Charles III coin already has a high circulation and there are plenty of loose ones out there. I have three in my collection, which is quite sufficient. This haul was thin on the ground, when the best there is are the coins from 2020 onwards. Not one Olympics coin here ! It is becoming evident that collectors have practically taken the coins out of circulation:

I was like that with £250 of sealed Brexits way back in 2020. Sold one bag, kept the rest, then found out the mintage figures, so I banked the lot! 😂

Nice hunt Christopher! If you have 'rules' for your collection then it stands to reason you MUST obey those rules, even if they sound silly to everyone else! You know you'll feel awful if you break your own rules so good for you for sticking to the plan!

You wait for 1 to show up and 40 show up together. I think a sealed bags are good keepers as the circulated ones will get battered over time and having some in excellent condition is a good move.

I dont know how I feel about the 2 sealed bags, personally I would've opened one up put on in the book and kept the rest and the other sealed bag. Chances are you'll come across a whole bags worth of sealed bag Charles iii 50ps in the future
I had Charles coin in my change a month back. I was a bit concerned when my son kept telling his teachers that daddy has Charlie in his wallet. I'll imagine they'll eventually start filtering through even though iv seen some idiots trying to shift them on local sale pages for way more that they would even be worth. Maybe the first year versions might be collectible. But I can't machine anything else being more than face value. I'll let my son know you have a few bags of Charlie lol

I agree/understanding the decision with leaving the Memorial coins in their bags.
But seeing you have found 1 or 40 in a hunt I wouldn't mind if you put the spare one you showed in the book, ok it not the actual one but it can be just a place holder untill you do. If they're going to mint as many as is suggested the it shouldn't be too long untill you find one to replace it with.

Hi Chris, Watching your coin hunt inspired me to start a coin hunt. On my 3rd trip to the bank I received a £250 secure bag of coins. Would to believe they were all London Pride. My question is do I keep them or exchange the for another £250 bag

Addendum: Haven't seen one since, though, so I'm assuming they DIDN'T Mint the maximum amount.

Hmm... I opened my sealed 50p money box and found a Bailiwick of Jersey 50p coin, with a 1997 castle/ruins. And a Bailiwick of Guernsey 2003 50p with flowers. Does anyone know if they're worth anything?

A collection is usually well ordered, and the items are easily accessible. A hoard is usually very disorganised, takes up a lot of room and the items are largely inaccessible."
I have had several bags from my PO. They are not that scarce. I have given mine away to the neices, nephews and grandchildren etc of my friends. I will never sell them on e-bay, only gready people do that.
