Please could we have a round of applause for the person(s) who filmed this, great shots of S.L.'s fingers. and playing it at half speed is great tuition
After playing pipes for 48 years I wish I played with this much clarity, these 3 pipers displayed the best performance I have ever seen. They demonstrate that even the simple 2/4's & 4/4's can sound amazing played with heart and soul. I would have listened to this at least 2-3 times a week since I came across it.
I like how he took the time to tune the drones, that's humble and real. You say to the crowd, just hold on now because I care about the best sound of my pipes. What a majestic sound!!
Lay them down and let cool or dry and you need to re tune,,, also even when playing some alterations are needed if played a long time... between tunes he returned as they got warmer
Stewart Liddell was one of my judges for a pipe competition I had. He also performed, and it was the most entertaining 5 hours I have ever spent sitting in a chair!
I am German and pretty sure that i don`t have any celtic blood in my veins. But why does this music make my tears flow ? Why does it move me so much ? I am not religious at all, but if something like reincarnation exists, i *must* have lived in Scotland in an earlier life. This piping here is pure Gold.
It's the science of 2 different frequency (220 and 110 let's imagine in tune with his 440 low A) thus giving a combo that goes right through a person , some like it others find it annoying.... these guys give me chills with such talent and good tuning
Will try and make a very very far link here. Holy Roman Empire was part of some parts of Italy and Germany. Bagpipes were orignally made in Europe ( mainly Spain) and were brought to Scotland by the Romans. So maybe your family in Germany were playing them and maybe thats why you love them... :)
Super expression in every tune. I am familiar with all these tunes, but when played to a Rolls Royce standard like this, I seem to think that Stuart has rewritten them. The Young Mc Gregor makes the hair { or what I have left} stand on my head. Absolutely beautiful.
I loved Highland Wedding and Cameronian Rant as Hornpipes. I can imagine that after playing those tunes over and over in competition they would lose their shine and an otherwise bored player might start to see what else you could do with those same collection of notes. Very clever and entertaining, and oh, so musical. Well done Terry and Stuart!
Always a treat to the ear! Stuart is the kind of piper that breaths new life into the music of the Great Highland Bagpipe! Innovative fingering and creative musicality are the earmark of a great piper.
i didn't know it is possible to keep the bag pressure high and steady for THIS long. I broke pressure 40 seconds in and I'm only playing on a less than medium reed. I wish I can be half this good.
Oh ferra birl that worked EVERY TIME it was asked to!! And a POWER TRIO around 1hr 30mins playing an MSR our junior band used to compete with in in Rhodesia and SA 1966...
Thanks for posting ! I think this is the first video in which I've heard Angus McColl speak. LOL. All inspiring pipers. I shall endeavor to persevere with my own piping !
When he was talking about seeing all the small Islands like Islay or Jura and then he said that he hoped the audience could "get the flavor" of the songs I had to laugh as all the Islands he mentioned are also famous for their Whiskey as I'm sure plenty of people will attest.
I’m glad there was marches, strathspeys and reels etc. The usual trend of playing tunes, some of them not very tuneful, faster and faster for long periods of time is no doubt very skilful, but it can get really boring after a while. I wonder if any of these guys with their superb tone, provided the sound samples for the Blair chanter.
I really appreciate Angus MacColl's strathspeys. Great dot cut and tempo is appropriate too. I hate it when top pipers play them too fast. At the end of the day a dancer should be able to dance to a strathspey.
Hearing and seeing them play touches my soul every time.
I've been playing this for the past 3 and 1/2 years and will continue with my windows down
Please could we have a round of applause for the person(s) who

Would love to know the list of all the songs Stuart played in this set? Able to name any of them?
When you can enjoy the sound of real instrument for once, no lyrics just your mind , body and soul vibrating to the frequencies of the sound!
I like how he took the time to tune the drones, that's humble and real. You say to the crowd, just hold on now because I care about the best sound of my pipes. What a majestic sound!!
Standard behavior in solo piping
Lay them down and let cool or dry and you need to re tune,,, also even when playing some alterations are needed if played a long time... between tunes he returned as they got warmer
Yes pipes are a pain in the arse in this respect. If you dont take time to tune up till sound shite.
the most beautiful ancient ancestral music of the entire European area
Such humility from outstanding artists, amazingly downplaying their extreme level of skill.
Stuart is one of the nicest human beings in the world, as well as one of the most talented pipers Ever! 💕
I know this guy! So true

I'm Puerto Rican and love this music. As much as I have listened to it throughout my life, it never fails to move me.

Last christmas I listened to amazing grace with bagpipe. My cat started rubbing on the speaker. She loves the bagpipes and sitar,

Angus McColl's commentary @1:12:33 - Looks like I'm not alone in figuring out my sets as I'm playing them.
Stu's drones in the slow air. Face melting.
Could you tell me the name of that slow air? It is amazing, and the way he plays it is sublime.

Beautiful music and wonderful interpretations.
This was so enjoyable to watch. Thank you for filming and sharing this with the RUclips community. God Bless.
I'm just a beginner with the pipes but I love this instrument. Hopefully when I get more proficient I can work on playing one of these tunes.
