Transitional error found for 1971-D Kennedy half dollar: Monday Morning Brief, Sept. 21

Managing Editor William T. Gibbs reports that the discovery of a 1971-D Kennedy half dollar struck on a silver-copper clad planchet is evidence that exciting coins like this transitional error can still be found.

My 71 half-dollar is odd. Sounds like silver clad(40%) when dropped into other coins( that's how I noticed it , the sound it made) but weights less than nickel or silver half is supposed to weight. Normal is 11.34, silver clad is around 11.5, mine is 11.16 and

I found a 1983-D half dollar that has no copper planchet showing on the reeded edge. It appears to be made of copper/nickel, not silver, but does not have the copper stripe on the edge. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Normal 1971s show the copper 'sandwich' when looking at the edge, like our quarters do. This '71 won't have that clear-cut copper distention. The edge will look like the 1965-1970 Kennedy's.

I have one 1971 D half dollar, nice one too, and 4 1964 90% silver beautiful half dollar Kennedy, 1944 D penny, 1958,buffalo nickle,also 1923 to 1958 wheat pennies,Also well i have a few there looking for but they need to be graded first.the Kennedy half dollars have the hair sented or in other words the one they want.
