  • Shot the stages at the Marksman indoor IDPA match on October 15, 2023. (In Carry Optics division.)
I can be nicely fast if the targets are fairly close, even with no-shoots or hardcover, so this match went well for me. (And I only designed the third stage, so the other two weren't my fault!) The second stage in particular with the required 3-per-target (unlimited scoring) was a blast to shoot. Trying to burn it down is always a good time!

Here are some of the things I noticed when watching this video:
Stage 1: Reload---slow, mag stuck in pouch (need to adjust the tension on that, plus clean the outside of the mags--perhaps some MagSlick?) Given it was a Limited stage, I'm fine with the shot speed, as I needed to have all down zero hits.
Stage 2: Not bad opening, good transitions, and good reload. Movement was not very efficient, though. Didn't need nearly as much, didn't need to lean, should have instead dropped weight and shifted so I was more stable with an upright posture, which makes for easier shooting. (Watch it again and see how much I shifted in getting to the last position, AND also leaned while staying high. Dropping the weight would have made that a lot easier, faster, and more stable.)
Stage 3: Movement was pretty good (looks like the mag stuck on the reload again, though) but position entry was slow and tense---need to relax into position, letting gravity ground me, as opposed to feeling like I need to crunch down into a shooting position. (Also paused after the third headshot in the beginning. I should have trusted my sights/trigger and just moved--or given the shot more respect in the first place so that I was certain of my hit. Either way, I should have left immediately after the shot.) Need to be ready to shoot when entering a position, so as not to waste time.

And most of those things can be practiced in dry fire!
