I have 4 airguns and my 2240 has weakest, thinnest blueing, brass bolt was falling apart, and i had machinist make a copy of it from steel. This pistol was manufactured in 2011. It sat 11 years on shelf in store next to more modern repeater co² pistols.

That’s bizarre. A couple of years ago I ordered a Crosman 2300T Target model and it’s finish was badly discolored and lightly rusted as thought it had been in a damp warehouse for years. Amazon made good on it and that was the only thing like that so far.

Thanks. I don’t want to jump to the worst conclusion. I’m also aware from my knowledge of firearms manufacturing, moving production from country to country is extremely challenging. And that’s when first world countries like Germany and Austria or Italy and the US do it they often have early trouble. So right now I’m pretty much fingers crossed and praying for the best. I purchased my first Crosman, a new 2240XL In September 2024. Made in China. The trigger and sear look to be stamped. Polishing the contact surfaces was difficult - not easy like my Diana Chaser. Replaced the weird trigger with a 3D printed 1911 style one. It took a few weeks to receive a suppressor; when it arrived, the suppressor changed the bullet impact a few inches at just 8 yards. Got another suppressor; exactly the same thing. Conclusion, the pressed-on threaded adapter is mis-alligned. Trying to return the gun costs money and no guarantee the replacement will be good, so am waiting on a replacement clean barrel to use with a good quality slip-on threaded adapter. Overall, I like the quality of the Diana a lot more than the Crosman, but the Diana hand grip is awful and had to be replaced with an after market grip from Germany; now it's great.

I just discovered your channel, and I enjoy it very much. I'm trying to make a decision between the Crosman 1377 and the Crosman 2240. Because of the quality of these two pistols,I became disenchanted with the 2240 being made in China and the gas leak that you mentioned. In your opinion, would you still recommend my purchase of the 2240? I'm 73 and have always enjoyed hunting and using air pistols and rifles with my first being the Daisy model# 25 pump. Thanks for allowing me the time to celebrate you and your channel.💯

    • @AlsAirguns
      @AlsAirguns  Месяц назад +3

Unfortunately I believe the 1377 is produced overseas as well. That being said, I’ve had two new ones go through my hands this last year and they were both great. I suspect my faulty 2240 is not representative of the product overall. And I want to believe any manufacturing problems will be sorted out (if they haven’t been already.)
As far as which one to get, the 2240 has convenience and power on its side but unmoderated it’s pretty loud. The 1377 offers variable power, cheaper operation and some people find easier to shoot well.
I’m an airgun enabler, so I think it’s more a matter of which one should you buy FIRST. 🤷🏻‍♂️😁

I'm interested to see what you find when you tear into it Al. The problem with everything/everyone pointing to the transition is, how many of the things had Crosman already moved overseas? The 362, 3622, custom shop and 13xx were made in USA, with 3622 coming out after the buyout. But their break barrels have for sure been chinese manufactured for a while. The new prospect pcp also started as China. Most of the "globally sourced" parts for "assembled in USA" are also of Chinese manufacturing.
All of that to say, I am still hopeful that quality will not decline, but I don't think we have even begun to see the real impact of the buyout. 😢

    • @AlsAirguns

What concerns me are the barrel manufacturing and specs, not much you can do with a lousy out of spec barrel except to try different head size pellets. Not an owner of these Crosman pistols myself.
    But. A question:
Has these 2240s ever been sold in a plastic clamshell packaging?
Just wondering if it'd be a good sign to tell quickly which one preferrably to buy, whenever preferring a 'Made in the USA" piece..
Myself not having an idea wether these Crosmans always been sold in a box. As an replica pistol enthusiast I just know that the US has gotten many airpistols clamshelled, even though Europe got almost same items in a cardboard box. That "almost same" though is mostly because the US often get more warning texts written on some models. This particular thing I at least noticed very well on the co2 blowback H&K USP BB pistol when I looked at mine and one reviewed overseas, which came clamshelled - and with lots of extra white warnings on the slide, which I had not gotten on mine.. Thus this Crosman thing got my interest.. Might jjst wanna buy myself now a Crosman 2240 made in the US, before it is too late..

    • @AlsAirguns

They were sold at some retailers in the clamshell plastic containers. Although I don’t know for certain my sense was that clamshell & boxes were made simultaneously for different stores. But that’s really just a hunch.

If they can at least come close to the same quality it wouldn't be so bad the price is a big difference that for sure. That’s really interesting. It’s really hard to say where it will all lead. As a musician and stringed instrument tech, I’ve seen guitars, violins, cello’s, basses etc., all go through similar production issues. It’s not that we can’t make excellent handcrafted guitars in America, unfortunately you have to be a Saudi Prince to afford it. Now certainly I exaggerate but the broad truth is certainly there. Economics and price to the consumer play a role. Particularly in non-necessity purchases.

The kit for building a carbines rifle there at 150$ and I'll most likely have to mod it to fit to sense its not exactly the same as a air soft model. So I'm not sure yet If any thing I'd be able to at least add a stock for about 40$ . I really wish they had a size spec sheet for the parts them selves just because I try not to go more in parts then the airgun cost. Its also non refundable for soft air parts I'm also ordering the mark point from Amazon so I can always return or exchange it with in a month if I happen to win it if not no biggie I'll still be building it . 💯✌️👍💪🫡

What good does it do the save a couple of bucks having something built in another country and leave no jobs for those here? Who then can purchase the products if you are not working? Just saying.

Darn, the 2 million people that bought them must have been really confused. I don’t remember ever seeing a commercial or celebrity endorsement so it can’t be marketing. How do you explain their success over the last 75 years? Really?
And more importantly, what product do you think is better? Why?
I’m being sarcastic but also serious. Ninety percent of people with responses like that are 1) never heard from again. 2) can’t answer those questions or 3) their preferred airgun cost a million dollars or is made from umobtanium.
