Been truely amazed by Joe and his photos since he came to give a lecture when i was at Arts school back in 2002. One of my all time favourite photographers. A great story by Joe. His stories are as inspiring as they was over 20 years ago.
Joe's honesty was incredibly touching. I felt that pain as well, transitioning from film to digital. And truth be told, I still do not enjoy being in front of my computer as I do being in front of my camera. I love the images of the Aspen trees in each variation of lighting. But my favorite is the first image Joe shared and the one in fog. So beautiful.
So sorry to hear about Meg's health problems. Hoping she's up and running by your side through the trees soon. This video has inspired me to partake in your exercise. I like doing this with my images when I'm in a writing rut, thanks for the inspiration.
Always love the opportunity to listen to Joe on any subject because he never fails to bring something of great value to the table. With that being said, I would much rather watch Meg bouncing happily through the wood for 15 minutes or so.
Many thanks Simon (and Joe) for a lovelly thoughtful and calming video in these difficult times. My very best wishes to Meg, I'm sure she will soon be back to normal. I know how much a dog becomes part of the family and how much a contirbution they make to our mental and physical wellbeing. My wife is a Guide Dog owner so I am fortunate to see how they can transform peoples lives at first hand. I very much enjoy your videos and hope once we get through the current crisis I may be able to book a workshop with you before too long.
Many thanks for your kind words, Jonathan! After a rough few days, Meg is now much much better, which is a great relief. Hope to see you for a workshop one day. All the best!
Hi Simon just a quick note to say we watch all your videos and love them all so far Chris & Carol H 👍 So thank you! We also love to see Meg having fun you obviously have a very close bond.
Thank you for choosing Joe as your first in this series. Joe is one of my photographic heroes. He is a truly gentle and intellectual photographer whose work stands among the best to be found. I envy the time you have been able to spend with him. He is one of the reasons I subscribed to "On Landscape" and also worked up the nerve to write my first article for them on my Niagara imagery. Telling stories is what photography is truly about. The realization that there is also a story behind the photographer and their body of work is not often told or shared. This is a wonderful series and I thank you for it. Please give Meg a hug from me and my pups. Much love.
Much appreciated, James. Yes, he was a natural choice for me. Not only have I always loved his work but he lives only 10 minutes away. There's a couple of places we enjoy shooting together so we're looking forward to the time that the lockdown can be safely lifted. I'm sure this won't be the last time he'll feature on my channel :-)
Thanks, Simon, for that lovely video. What a wonderful man Joe Cornish is, warm, humble, and honest. Pretty good photographer, too! Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Meg. Stay safe and well, my friend.
Joe is truly one of the most humble people I have ever met. A true gentleman and a massive influence and inspiration to me. Hope Meg is back bouncing soon!
I am so sorry to hear that Meg wasn't feeling well! I hope she will be feeling better soon! I love the Aspen tree pictures and it is so interesting to hear Joe's story! Much respect for his honesty!
Wishing Meg a speedy and full recovery, thanks to Joe Cornish for the interesting stories and to Simon for starting this series. I enjoyed watching this episode very much.
A big hug to Meg. Someone, somewhere said that "dogs aren't your whole life, but they make your life whole". So very true. Cameras come and cameras go, but amazing creatures like Meg...do not. Often...like great images...they are a once in a lifetime gift. Thanks for all your great work...and pass along a big thanks to Joe as well.
Thanks for this video Simon, and thanks Joe for you candid review of the switch to digital and sharing your thoughts on the images of the Aspens. They are beautiful images.
Hi Simon, This was a real treat with Joe as your guest sharing his story. The Aspen prints are all absolutely beautiful 👌. I hope Meg has a speedy recovery and is soon back out bouncing by your side.
@@QuietLightPhoto Yeah, he received his last year which is currently on his office wall. I've was waiting to move house before he sorted mine but now I can't get it framed :(
Thank you, wonderful work by Joe. Truly appreciate his honesty and humility as well! So important to create work from within that's authentic above striving for popularity.
Dogs are very special. I previously had 8 sled dogs i used to travel around interior alaska with. They were my only companions for months sometimes. I have one remaining, many years retired, that is over 17 now. He had relatively minor knee surgery 4 weeks ago and is now back up to walking 3 miles a day. Your ability to articulate composition is very inspirational. Thank you.
What wonderfully honest and thought provoking story from Joe, the beautiful images a given too! Big love to Meg for a swift recovery; so horrible to see our furry friends suffer :(
Wow Joe Cornish is not only a fantastic photographer but seems like a genuine real gentleman,... Good onya Joe. Looking forward to seeing Meg bounding in the forest soon. That of course means both Meg and the world heal.
Loved reading Joe’s articles in photo magazines in the days before the Internet when I was much younger. The moors is a favourite holiday location and I always make the trip to his gallery, the family enjoy it too and all rounded off with a visit to the gallery cafe. The staff are so friendly there and had dairy free options too! Thanks Simon for publishing this and thanks to Joe for being so open and airing his story.
Great video Simon. Really good to see you putting out quality, interesting videos in what is a very difficult time for you guys. Hope Meg is back to her usual self soon!
Sorry to hear about Meg. Hope she gets back to normal soon. I always enjoy your videos. I hope this Covid-19 is over soon so the world can get back to normal. Stay healthy my friend!
Hi Simon thoroughly enjoyed the video. I hope Meg makes a quick recovery as I enjoy her contribution to your vlogs. I have been a big admirer of Joe's landscape photography for many years and have many of his books. I have had the pleasure of visiting his gallery in Northalerton on a number of occasions and would highly recommend to any photographer visiting Yorkshire to place a visit there at the top of their to do list. In my view he is the best landscape photographer in the UK and has been so for many years. His honesty not only shines through in your video but also in his work. Thank you for sharing this vlog. Take care , stay safe and God bless.
Many thanks, Fred. Glad you enjoyed it and that you've been able to visit his gallery a few times - it's good for a coffee and cake too ;-). All the best!
Hi Simon, so sorry Meg has been so unwell. Having lost our own little rescued Yorkie cross 3 weeks before Christmas, seeing our pets unwell & they don't have the ability to tell us what is wrong is heartbreaking in itself. Joe Cornish is such a warm unassuming gentlemen, he is someone we all aspire to as a photographer. I am still trying to find an image with a story worth writing about, but as in photography I will keep trying.
Hi Simon just catching up on your channel this was a fabulous episode, it was great to hear yourself and Joe talk so frankly about issues which plague us all time to time. I know I keep switching back to analogue and digital workflow, as the darkroom is such and alluring place to immerse and create , film is a very tactile medium. This was all that was available to us in the 80s when I studied commercial photography back then. Please Please keep these episodes coming. Will have to watch the rest. Cheers Simon.
Great video. Living in Bedale means Joe's gallery is 20 mins away, which means I can pop over and admire his and others work. I am still drying out from doing one of Joe's photography course, when it absolutely poured down. Stay safe. Give Meg an extra biscuit from me.
Hi Simon, hope Meg is back in top form in the not too distant future, give her my best. Also, that was an enlightening video by Joe Cornish, really enjoyed it. Thank you!
Hi Simon: Thanks for creating this video. Joe is an absolute 'craftsman' in his field and his personal connection with his images comes across very strongly in his compositions. I really enjoy hearing Joe's perspective on photography as often as I can. I truly hope that Meg is quickly recovering from the surgery. Best wishes and keep safe. Keith Pinn (Canada)
Simon, this series is an absolutely great idea - delighting to watch it. And I see it same like you. These things are so important, especially to accept and to see the big picture.
I regularly watch your programmes and I am very fascinated with your woodland images. Your idea of Photographers's story is a wonderful idea and Joe being the first is naturally the best idea. I am eagerly awiiting to see the other greats in that series. I am a nature photographer from India with over 60 years of experience and I alays love to se other's work in this field. Wish you all the best. K.Jayaram
I've listened to a few podcast featuring Joe and they've always been an amazing experience ..... your wee video takes it to a new level Simon ...... Appreciated mate .....
Thanks Simon, really enjoyed Joe's story. I also had long dalliance with digital and now instead of long hours in the darkroom it's long hours in Photoshop. I look forward to more stories as well as seeing you and Meg back in the woods.
Simon, first of all, I like your shirt. Second, this is a great topic. I think I’ll get back into the RUclips and make a quick story as well. Great idea.
Simon, Best wishes to Meg! This was really nice and I quite enjoyed hearing from Joe Cornish. Those aspen images were just wonderful. Thanks Simon and Joe!
