After you get the initial supplies really it’s just vet bills when you need them and constantly buying litter and food lmao they eat and poop a lot. My two fluffer butters are chunky too. Not obese just fluffy. I love ferrets.

I pay roughly £60-£80 for a wellness check. My female ferrets 2 year implant was £250-£300 (it was a while ago I forget) I haven't had an emergency (yet 🤞) but I can definitely see it going into the thousands
im 37, interacted with ferrets on small animal care course when i was 19, but never considered them as a pet as i assumed they HAD to be kept outside n iv never had the garden to do so XD In aug 2019, i realised it was possible (thanks to youtube) n got permission off my social housing officer (yay!) Even so, i very much doubt i'll be purchasing any until at least december 2019 ... This is because of ferret-proofing my flat, researching into care and training methods, sourcing second-hand cage etc, hand-making bedding, toys etc and most importantly, saving up an emergency fund NEVER rush into buying a pet. it is THE most selfish immature thing one can do. Pets dont have a choice, WE do ****** I thankyou deeply Bryne for this vid on the financial topic of this vid -it is often neglected. The library in my city has two ferrets (Draco and Maya) and we got to take them out the other day and play with them!! Draco is all white (black eyes though) and he's really chill, he let us hold him and sit him in our laps, but Maya was insanely energetic and escaped to run around the library several times (it was the kids section, so we didn't really have to be quiet). It was really fun to see their personalities coming out They probably don't get out of their cage as much as they should, but they do have two levels in the cage and several beds and blankets, and I've seen at least Draco outside being walked before!
It's always sad to see pets in a classroom or public type setting like that. It's why I think ferrets would be a bad class pet as they require 6-8+ hours out of the cage everyday. Unfortunately not much can be done unless they are straight up neglected (although I consider little-no free roam time neglectful) I hope for the happiest lives for Draco and Maya/
hey! i had a question. if i got a ferret during Christmas and then waited till june(my birthday) to get my second ferret, do you think it would be okay until june? and also i’m not 100% getting a ferret because i still need to talk to my parents about the financial cost of vet care for getting a ferret
It depends on the ferret's schedule. Will it be out of the cage 6-8+ hours every day? And can you dedicate 1.5-2 hours of your time in a day playing with them? If so, they should be fine until June. If your ferret will be in the cage for long periods of time it would not be okay.
Rescue. Two are from the store I got them before I knew any better. For treats, freeze dried raw and salmon oil are good options. I don't bother with treats, personally.
When you get a ferret from a pet store, do you even stop home and get them settled in or do you go straight to the vet for vaccines and wellness checks

Hi, I’m a ferret owner but I need to go 1 hour to my cousins house every week and my best friends house that go to sometimes that like 3 hours away....do you think next time I go out I should bring my 2 babies? I mean yea, they sleep like 18 hours a day, as long as they have ample room to move around in their cages and a good water/food supply, you should be good for up to like 5-8 hours.

Erika Cuevas I will say no. Mazuri ferret food is considered one of the absolute worst kibbles for ferrets. I cannot in good conscience recommend feeding kibble of any kind, regardless of the quality due to my personal opinions and research I’ve done on kibble foods. I stand by feeding a balanced and complete raw diet above anything else! Hope this helps:
Does a generic ivermectin preventative treatment work against ear mites? I know it does mange mites but I was wondering if you need a different treatment for them Also how do you know how much to feed? I got my ferret (10 week old jill) about two weeks ago and I try to give her 2 ounces of meat per meal but sometimes she'll eat it all and others she barely eats a 1/5. I've seen people saying to feed a certain percentage of their body weight but I haven't had a good time to weigh her since she's so active, I don't know if she's drinking enough either, she always has a water bowl available but if I put her by the bowl she drinks like crazy so I'm not sure if she's drinking Sorry for the ranting I got carried away

One more thing. Do you cover you ferret nation when he sleeps. I made a cover for the top and he seems to put himself to sleep in the top portion. He has full range of the house but when he is tired he goes to the top part (where it is covered) and sleeps for hours.
@@vickv9599 as long as one part is covered you dont need to cover the cage, he might just be hot. My girl always naps in her litter area on hot days because the newspaper retains less heat

Great question! Swimming or rinsing with warm water does remove some oil. But it’s pretty gentle. I like to rinse my ferrets with warm water to make them super soft and fluffy every few weeks. I wouldn’t have a ferret swim in a pool though with all the chemicals. And be careful about lakes as they can be pretty dirty. Ferrets usually don’t want to go swimming on their own although they have aquatic / semi aquatic members in their family! Ferrets tend to prefer all paws on land 😝❤️
I have 2 ferrets one of them is litter pan trained and the other is not. We have fleece blankets in the cage but he keeps going to the bathroom on the fleece any tips?
You have to train the other ferret. They won’t know to go in the litter box without training. Give them praise and treats when they potty in the correct spot, block off areas you don’t want them to go. Put them in the box right when they get up etc. If nothing works, pee pads are a great option.

I mean yea, they sleep like 18 hours a day, as long as they have ample room to move around in their cages and a good water/food supply, you should be good for up to like 5-8 hours.

I know this was posted a while ago but my dad said that he will finally get me a ferret for my birthday after a whole year of me asking but my dad and brother had two ferrets and I want one to cause I’ve never had one but I’m turning 14 and I’m wondering if you can give me any sort of advice on what to do as a beginner like what to start feeding it when I get it and if leaving it out with my stepmom who won’t pay to much attention to it is a bad idea because I’ll be gone for 7 hours to go to school but I’ll be with it all weekend but do they just need to be watched those seven hours idk just anything can help cause I want to show my dad I can take care of it and another question is how would I introduce it to my two other dogs my Pomeranian is kind of aggressive but he gets along with animals after a while and my rotty will just want to lick it and I have no idea what my cats will do plus I have some money saved up to help with the cost but I only have 200$ so I’ll only pay for the ferret and my dad will pay for the rest but what all do you need at first?

Erika Cuevas I will say no. Mazuri ferret food is considered one of the absolute worst kibbles for ferrets. I cannot in good conscience recommend feeding kibble of any kind, regardless of the quality due to my personal opinions and research I’ve done on kibble foods.
I stand by feeding a balanced and complete raw diet above anything else! Hope this helps:
Does a generic ivermectin preventative treatment work against ear mites? I know it does mange mites but I was wondering if you need a different treatment for them
Also how do you know how much to feed? I got my ferret (10 week old jill) about two weeks ago and I try to give her 2 ounces of meat per meal but sometimes she'll eat it all and others she barely eats a 1/5. I've seen people saying to feed a certain percentage of their body weight but I haven't had a good time to weigh her since she's so active, I don't know if she's drinking enough either, she always has a water bowl available but if I put her by the bowl she drinks like crazy so I'm not sure if she's drinking

Eviolus - I only noticed I have places for him to get in (cozy and soft ) but he likes to lay on the cold plastic floor of the ferret nation floor.
One more thing. Do you cover you ferret nation when he sleeps. I made a cover for the top and he seems to put himself to sleep in the top portion. He has full range of the house but when he is tired he goes to the top part (where it is covered) and sleeps for hours.
@@vickv9599 as long as one part is covered you dont need to cover the cage, he might just be hot. My girl always naps in her litter area on hot days because the newspaper retains less heat

Great question! Swimming or rinsing with warm water does remove some oil. But it’s pretty gentle. I like to rinse my ferrets with warm water to make them super soft and fluffy every few weeks.
I wouldn’t have a ferret swim in a pool though with all the chemicals. And be careful about lakes as they can be pretty dirty. Ferrets usually don’t want to go swimming on their own although they have aquatic / semi aquatic members in their family! Ferrets tend to prefer all paws on land 😝❤️

I have 2 ferrets one of them is litter pan trained and the other is not. We have fleece blankets in the cage but he keeps going to the bathroom on the fleece any tips?
You have to train the other ferret. They won’t know to go in the litter box without training. Give them praise and treats when they potty in the correct spot, block off areas you don’t want them to go. Put them in the box right when they get up etc.
If nothing works, pee pads are a great option.
This may sound gross, but put any feces in the litter. They’re more likely to go where their scent is
