- Some call it "The Dark History of Cambodia" ...after the Golden Era - only about 40 years ago - Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge brought four years of unimaginable cruelty to the country.
In Phnom Penh you can find the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum - former Prision S21 - and the Choeung Ek Killing Fields. Both places display and tell about the recent intangible past of Cambodia.
A big thank you to Epic Arts for letting me use the footage from the Come Back Brighter Show!

Hammer Video.
like your style. not the usual travel montage!
one of the best compliments you can give me, thanks a lot man!
Wow! So emotional, educational & and so well put together. Such a sensitive topic and I believe you honered and brought light to a terrible time for the people of Cambodia!
Thanks so much Cait, means a lot! I could not wish for anything else to read in a comment 🙏
I’m Cambodian and I just want to say, thank you...🇰🇭

Dude... thanks. Decent almost poethic english btw, digger!
My mama was born 1976 and she escaped cambodia when she was 9
So sad for Cambodian who died and many have suffered badly from the most notorious Communist Leaders and their failed Policies. They were supposed to rescue the people, the Khmers, poor and unfortunate people in the region.
i remember going there on a trip to Cambodia, there is this massive thing of skulls, and did you know they played music to block out the screams of people being shot, i learnt that on an audio thing you listen to as you walk around. in the room where the skulls are, you can see small skulls with smashed skulls as they've been hit in the head with a hammer. everyone is very quiet and respectful.

Someday :)
I just watched The Killing Fields, it was rough 😭
...it really is though to comprehend and stomach all this. but also important to be aware and learn.
I remember watching that too. I was dating a Cambodian guy and I was curious to know why his family came to America and he said his grandpa was escaping the khmer rouge.
Yes hope they will get healed from their past.
I was born 1970 thank god we survived from pol pot
Cambodia😭😭😭
Young Westerners who want socialism need to go to cambodia 🇰🇭 and see how it worked they want equality were everyone is a slave or dead democracy is not that bad !
there is definitely a confused notion of socialism out there...
This is America in a decade or less.
Hopefully not.
Khmer Rough regime (1975-1979) was the obvious hell on earth. 😭😭😭 Three millions people were killed and the survivors become having mental trauma, PTSD, depression, mental retardation etc.
Cambodian genocidal regime was led by Cambodian Communist Party, directed by Pol Pot, Nuon Chea, Ieng Sary, Son Sen, Ta Mok, Khieu Samphan, Vorn Vet, Ieng Thyrith , Koy Thuon, Toch Phoeun , etc.
This regime has no freedom, no human rights, no mercy upon human life , no justice , no healthcare , no foods , no families living , no personal properties, no free opinions , no schools , no universities , no religions , no hospitals , no cash , no markets , no cities livings , no arts , no entertainments , no holidays , no family meeting , no free uniform , no complaints , no free own name , no free trips , no courts , no elections , no news , etc.
...it was horrible indeed. Personally I think whoever travels to Cambodia should educate him- or herself about the history of the country.
@@JustWojtek Pol Pot followed Chinese culture revolution directed by Mao Zedong.
:(((((((((((((
You could say America is behind this. But no, no and no .. The truth is who benefit from doing it. American had a reason to do this after they failed in Vietnam but in fact during this time they were exhausted with their own problems in their own country because many Americans opposed the Vietnam War and they had to deal with them. Vietnam was exhausted from the Vietnam War too and they had to go to another war again. A lot of Vietnamese troops died and of course did not benefit them. China saw the power of Vietnam after Vietnam war and they wanted to control Vietnam by inciting Cambodia. The proof is that many times Polpot went to Beijing and Cambodia received a lot of weapons from China. China's leader - Dang Xiaoping wanted to contested Chinese influence in the communist bloc with Russia and he chosed Vietnam - the closest friend with Russia at that time - to accomplish the goal. China undermined Vietnam, they received cooperation and investment from America for economic development. During this time, China got rich quickly thanks to American money. Chinese were the mastermind behind this war and they achieved their goal. They are the last to benefit.
Thank you for adding this to the conversation. During our travels I mostly relied on conventional historical sources, which depending on who writes that history down, might leave things out.
Would you mind sharing a few sources, which pick up the points you made?
@@JustWojtek If it is too difficult to understand the past, you can look into the present. China has a close economic relationship with the US, China sells the most goods to the US market, many American manufacturers have set up factories in China: apple, foxconn ... all of these investments began when relations between China and the US were warmed up by Deng Xiaoping when he visited the United States in 1978 and China actively initiated a border war with Vietnam in 1979. Before that the Chinese Communist Party had a feud to the Americans because American were helped Chiang Kai-shek's side. China incited Polpot to attack Vietnam and provide weapons and finance to Polpot was just the first step to initiate the relationship with America. They have successfully taken advantage of Vietnam, Cambodia and even the US to quietly develop their economy according to what Deng Xiaoping had conspired before. Anyone can understand the nature of events and wars when they understand who benefits the most. No one is foolish when doing useless things. And the one who benefits the most is always the culprit. These are very simple logic that you just need to know about the events that happened without any political views, no matter which country you are from.
