  • So there is no question that there are valuable gemstones that can be found along with gold in a number of places. These gems are not found everywhere when gold prospecting, but they are Found in a large number of places and definitely worth keeping an eye out for. Whether you're a seasoned prospector or just starting out, this guide will help you recognize the hidden treasures beneath the earth's surface. . Precious stones come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, making them a fascinating subject for any prospector. But how do you know what you have or even if you've struck it rich? The first step in identifying precious stones is to examine their physical characteristics. Look for clues like color, luster, hardness and its crystal shape if you can see one. Hardness testing is important because all of these gems from concentrates are hard. A gemstone's color can vary greatly, from vibrant reds to deep blues, so color may be a thing of beauty, but by itself is not really a strong indicator of what you have. Because each stone has its own characteristics, we will look at each of these gemstones individually.

    I love gold.....who doesn't !
    But gems are actually more abundant and the variety lends itself to chances of finding a gemstone.
    I lived in western mass. for two decades and spent a lot of time at the old loudville lead and silver mine. But about 20 miles southwest of that mine is a small town named Blandford. The metamorphosed schist in that area has beautiful garnet and kyanite in it. I have found several inches long kyanite crystals with its classic triclinic shape and many garnets up to about a half inch across.
    Thank you for sharing this with everyone, it's a great thing to also help gold prospectors break up the monotony of solely searching for gold !!!

      When you are out prospecting, you might as well be aware of other stuff too.

    Huh…I think I tossed some sapphires, maybe garnets. I’ll have to go back to Tamarack Creek next trip up. Just getting all my stuff together. It’s been in storage for so long. Been dying to go up and dig a bit. Definitely have to pay more attention to my pan or sluice. Thank you for the video. I have to admit I almost always watch and then jump to the next one without hitting the like button, but I’m getting better at it. Definitely a like 😂😁👍

    Thank you as always! Could you make a video on placer gold in northern Spain? Geology shows there should be some good gold silver etc deposits but not much is mined since the romans. For example they started a mine just weeks before the civil war and in those 3 weeks they mines massive amounts of arsenopyrite/pyrite and at least 4 kilos of gold. When the war started they stopped and never went further. The mine is located in Cerler close to the French border

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  8 месяцев назад +1

      Maybe one day. I've never been to Spain, and less than 1 percent of my viewers are from Spain. Probably 99 percent of my viewers would have no interest in it. You would be interested but the vast majority, no.

    The kind of rock formation and type gold and gemstones are found in are typically different from one another. Garnet and placer gold are an exception .

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, but it is possible to have different types of rocks erroding to one drainage. Also quartz crystals and sometimes agates occur with gold / silver deposits.

      I get quite a few people every day who want me to ID their rock and mineral photos. I do not offer a mineral ID service, mostly because it’s not as easy as you think. Usually, minerals cannot be identified from just a picture. Please watch my videos on how to Identify minerals for yourself.
