  • The #DriftVega gets a complete custom exhaust. We start off with Sanderson headers and run 2 1/2 inch exhaust back to a modified Flowmaster 80 series Crossflow muffler that we modify for our HBody project. Stick around for the vroom vroom noises. Don't forget to subscribe.

    I love that the kid was involved and helm was used. but i would've recommended providing safety gloves as well. But that may just be me, I'd be a bit paranoid of sparks.

    Cool video! I’ll be doing a custom exhaust in my 66 mustang later this year and I’m looking for inspiration. I had a 73 Vega that I put a 4 bolt mains SB 350 in with a street cam, Holley 600 (vac secondaries), Weiand dual plane intake. Turbo 350 auto with a stage 2 B&M shift kit. It was an awesome car. I had standard cast iron exhaust manifolds. Those H Body specific headers and custom exhaust were well worth the effort. That sounds fantastic!

    Just to say with the blowtorch, the hottest part of the flame is just in front of the corona. The light blue cone you can see within the larger cone of flame. Just in front of that is supposed to be the hottest part of the flame 😉

    I have used a similar trick to your zip tie method- a hose clamp. I swear I learned it from Stacey David on Trucks years ago but I'm not sure. Anyway it's a pretty good way to mark a straight cut line on exhaust pipe or bends as long as it isn't a super tight bend.

      The only way to get good at something is by sucking at it for a while. Read some books and maybe take a class at a local community college to reduce the time spent sucking at it.

    Love the vid but you did some of that the hard way. I am using the same headers but with side pipes. lol. I like the old school look.

    The headers are smooth bore to increase hp, you can also take the intake manifold and smooth out the inside with various types of drilled hones. once smooth I've heard you can gain an extra 50 hp. Zip tie thing is a game changer, oh yeh...

      The general wisdom is that you want the intake air to be turbulent so it keeps the fuel charge atomized. Lets be honest though, this is no racecar. I'm just happy it sounds nice.

      The DIY exhaust bends kit is from Summit. The rest was sourced from the average fly-by-night vendors on that jungle website. I have had trouble sourcing replacement parts for the clamps so any kind of list would be useless.

    Nice work. im working on a 71 vega wagon myself with a 496 big block. I need some ideas for my header and rear end.

      Check out my other videos. I have a video on using an S10 blazer 7.5 rearend. Some Blazers come with 8.5 rearends. This will work for a street car. If you are going full drag, then you’re stuck with a 9”.

    I was considering using glasspack mufflers for portions of turbo back exhaust system instead of just straight exhaust tubing. In hopes of a louder and unique exhaust sound. As turbochargers act as a pseudo muffler, decreasing exhaust volume. However, the largest diameter glasspack is around 4 inches. I had planned on expanding the exhaust tubing from the exhaust side of the turbo to 5 inches. As turbos like large exhaust diameter/exhaust flow. Has anyone ever done such a thing? I realize that this would be both expensive as well as uncommon. Thanks

      They were pretty straight forward. What I showed in the video was my actual experience.

    Don't know y am scare to do my exhaust.. anyone use flex core to do exhaust?

      No reason not to use flux core. Just take your time and clean up your weld area.

      I'm pretty displeased with Safelite. I had them come out to put a windshield in my wagon. When I turned on my a/c I got a face full of glass from the vents. When I was cleaning it up, I realized the tech had ripped my VIN tag off and used windshield sealant to glue it back on. He told me nothing about it and just dipped. There was so much glass and it got into my son's face and was all over my carpet and cloth seats. Very disappointing.
