Excellent Video. I have had 5 Lithotripsy procedures since the middle 2000's; last one was today to attack 3 out of the 5 stones I current have. Since the last Lithotripsy (4 years ago) I have passed 6 additional stones (2-4 mm); with only flu like aches for 1-2 days while at home. Today's procedure is the 1st one that has caused me any pain after the procedure. But 2 doses of Tylenol and Ibuprofen took care of it. Once I played tennis the next day. Currently I am feeling some pain when the fragments move; like strong intestinal gas pains for 1-10 seconds. I hope everyone has the chance to have Lithotripsy performed before you rush to the Emergency Room. I think only major burns would hurt worse. I have a high pain tolerance (a single oxycodone after major shoulder bone work surgery) and I burned through my 2nd IV of dilaudid in 10 minutes and was thinking about hitting my head against the bed frame because I could have controlled that pain. Kind of stupid; but pain does that!
I've had this done twice before and, now I have to get it done again. I have a total of 5 stones...3 in left kidney 2 in my right kidney. If anyone has a large stone, I suggest getting it removed asap. I almost lost a kidney as a kid because of infection. My doctor kept blaming it in my menstrual cycle but, it was a large stone. I know both times I had it done, urinating after was painful. It was like urinating sand mixed with blood. So now I have to deal with it again.
If you wake up with a stent you’ll be very uncomfortable. There are capsules that dissolve stones of any type. Lithotripsy doesn’t break up the entire stone.
Hi Sir, My father is almost 72+ years, just a check if the Lithotripsy is okay for his age, and doesn't have any impact or side effects on other organs?
On my CT, I noticed they used houndsfield units, does that measurement of density help with deciding to use ecswl vs another measure? I have this tomorrow. 😭🥺I’m mostly freaked out about the stent to be left in. 6mm X 3 mm in the junction… I hope they use general anesthesia!!
Am set travel outside USA to Africa on June 30th and I have to perform the Shockwave procedure on the 27th. Worried something might happen to me because I have to be on the for 13 hours. I need advice please
I have a 15 x 10cm ovarian cyst I am Waiting for surgery to remove it but I have been scheduled to have shock therapy on my kidney stone is it safe to do this still my lithotripsy is in 4 days time
They did 2 lithotripsy sessions now they asking to come back with ultrasound and xray for the third time . Is it safe to get 3 sessions within a month time. My stone was 7.6 mm now its 4mm do i still need more sessions
Typically , you can pass a 4mm stone without a lithotripsy. That procedure is for larger stones……10mm or larger. You may just need some Flomax to relax the ureter to widen it so that stone will pass.
Great description. I had ESWL lithotripsy last Tuesday and I have had a couple pieces of “sand” come out but the pain is still very much alive. I’m assuming some of the stone is still well lodged in there
@@Joe_Brig yes it took a week to two for pain to subside but they are out. I dealt with the pain because I didn’t like my pain medication ( percocet) it made me funky. Actually the prescription strength ibuprofen worked best just not as fast as Percocet.
@@stoolsample4431 I'm 4 days passed ESWL, pain has dropped, still straining for stones, not much yet. Did you have large fragments to pass? If so, how did that go?

This is my urologist! Excellent Doctor who removed my stone and who has done so much for me with my complicated urologic issues!

Most places do - my local hospital does. Thank goodness as I may need this procedure and have a low pain tolerance!

No pain after procedure. Oh nonsense, it hurt like hell in the kidney area after. Thankful the pain meds were strong enough to get rid of the pain.
How painful is passing the fragments

No, you can’t have ESWL if pregnant.
