    The carburetor bowl!! You likely saved me $1k in repair costs. And my son and I learned a lot about the generator! Thx

    Your video, single-handedly fixed my Onan QC 7000 genset. I learned from you that I could remove the carb bowl and clean those jets which fixed my "not-starting" problem. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Getting compitent Onan service is neither easy nor cheap. You are now my go-to genset guy.

    Thank you! These things are finicky! I just had to do the starter in mine (with the help of a mobile RV repair guy - and it took both of us). Now having an issue with starting. Fuel pump is good, spark is good. This is the next thing to check. Thank you.

    I have worked trough all dignostic here and all was fine. But the generator woulden't start and go. The last thing was the carburator. I sprayed Carburator Cleaner inside through fuel intake pipe twice, and now the generator start and runs like a dream without any misfire.

    I recently bought a 2008 Grey Hawk with only 7,100 miles and 37 hours on the Onan 4,000 generator. Everyone thought the generator would be trash.
    I removed the carb and cleaned the bowl, jets, and the STUCK SHUT OFF SOLENOID PLUNGER.
    Put it back together and it started right up. It even started at 6°F just two days ago.
    Don't forget to check that plunger.

    Great Video!!! I also had spark, fuel and air. Checked and verified via your first video. I even changed the spark plug just to be sure. But still it will only crank but not start. This video helped me identify and clean out my stuck check valve. Now it turns on super easy. Thank you for the best video out there!!

    I found a good tip for the pesky wire behind the carb that you need a long pair pliers to disconnect. If you remove the carb to ultrasonic clean it that wire is long enough to run around to the front. It's in a loom with other wires. Nip the zip tie holding the loom together and unlace the single wire and move to front. I suggest lace it in a single piece of loom for extra protection but not necessary. Not many will want to fully remove carb due to the fact its a pain in the ass getting it back in and gaskets lined up.

    That makes so much sense. Thank you for pointing out that these carburetors will run just fine WITHOUT that darn solenoid even installed. I have a main jet that just screws on without that solenoid. I know what it does and why, but mine was more trouble than it's worth. The main jet without the solenoid has three larger holes in it where the other one has about 6-8 holes in it.

  • @TheDedmiston

    Hey there, sir. I've been clutching so hard at so many straws. I watched this video and thought "nah, that can't be it". But you completely nailed it. This was my problem. Luckily the newer models are a little easier to tear into. All I had to do was remove the air filter mount so I could get to the bolt on the solenoid. The wires disconnected so I didn't have to loop them through the wrench.
    Anyway, thanks again and cheers to you.

    Thanks for the video it really helps. My Onan 4000 starts but doesn't stay on. I check the battery and is at 12.1 Volts, spark plug is good, air filter is good, and it gives me the same voltage when testing the options you show from the power to the engine and then engine and live as you did and it gives me 12.0 Volts. I also checked the plunger and it's working too. Do you think my voltage is the problem? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    • @rvknowhow
      @rvknowhow  11 месяцев назад

      Hi, Thanks for the comment. 12 volts is very low, yes. A fully charged battery should be 12.6 V. And around 13.5 to 14 V when charging via the Motorhome engine alternator or battery charger. Once the generator starts it should be able to run without a battery even connected so I would say even though the batteries appear low voltage, it shouldn't be the issue. Do the batteries show a higher voltage when the generator is running ?

    • @javiermartinez9355
      @javiermartinez9355 11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for taking the time, I didn't check the battery but I will once I get the generator to run. Thanks for the great videos. I'll keep you posted.@@rvknowhow

    Great video. I followed your steps and discovered I don’t have 12V coming from the red wire to the fuel shut off valve. Do you have any recommendations on what to do next?

    • @rvknowhow
      @rvknowhow  Год назад

      Hi and thanks for the comment.
      First thing I would check is to make sure you have 12 V at both sides of the solenoid.

    • @davidlawrence5235
      @davidlawrence5235 Год назад

      Exact same problem, it's like I don't have something turned on in the RV. I have good battery voltage. I have no idea where that red wire goes and it's barely long enough to see any path

  • @Gilenborn

    I’ve got an interesting issue… my generator was working Wednesday and Thursday evening at my campsite. Friday when I went to start it, it sounds like it was cranking, but wouldn’t turn over.
    Fuel was at roughly 1/2 tank, RV hadn’t moved (I know nothing rattled out of place) and obviously I was getting clean air and spark yesterday.
    Any ideas where I should start?

    • @rvknowhow
      @rvknowhow  Год назад

      Hi, sorry for your troubles, when you say cranking, can you hear the starter engage or does the solenoid just click ?

    • @Gilenborn
      @Gilenborn Год назад

      @@rvknowhow not sure if I can hear the solenoid, the engine is definitely rotating… entire generator is shaking, as soon as I release the start switch, engine stops

    • @rvknowhow
      @rvknowhow  Год назад

      So if the engine is rotating and shaking we can rule out a starter motor issue, now if you check for spark and air filter blocked, also fuel flow, I have a RV Generator won't start part 1 video in my library that covers this, I would rule this out first before diving deeper, let me know how you get on

    • @rvknowhow
      @rvknowhow  Год назад

      Oh sorry you mentioned you have clean are and spark already, so next is to bypass the fuel shut off valve and see if it starts

    • @Gilenborn
      @Gilenborn Год назад

      @@rvknowhow I checked the air filter, seems fine… didn’t think to check the spark plug, as it was working the day before… is that something that would just stop working?
