    Chef Craig, just stumbled onto your channel. However, your no-nonsense diagnosis and delivery really was helpful for us non-mechanical type. I found it very informational and increased my knowledge on the subject. Thereby leads me to dissecting prospective problems going forward before throwing in the towel and paying a mechanic $$$$ untold of amounts of my hard-earned money. Thanks again, and keep creating content. Always, Syn Silver.

    Thank you the reminder course Craig. Well documented - the actual hands-on work moments are challenging but DIY is possible by staying patient, think it through, take notes, take your time. Take heed on emplacement parts though, as Craig mentioned.
    In May 2019, my 2007 Onan 4000 was suffering the shutting down after 10-15 min from cold or after allowing to cool 20 min, and repeat with shutdown in 5-10 min. Same issue as Ken Romaine's comment in this thread. Pump overheats during active use and shuts off. Onan pumps were scare that June so I utilized the same "use this, it'll work", knock-off E11007 pump Craig is removing in this video. But I did replace the available proper Onan filter and new fuel line to carburetor as did Craig. I didn't think of the in-line shutoff - great idea, if it won't leak. Nice touch though and great planning for future.
    We haven't been actively camping for 4 yrs for multiple reasons but I had been starting unit for 1/2 to 1 hr periods. Yesterday's scheduled generator & AC load temporary "exercise" resulted in raw fuel escaping from under that green control board. Something gave up and I have to believe it was the pump. In Craig's opinion that it'll give out "in about a month" appears correct (assuming real world daily usage).
    As soon as I have the proper parts and materials gathered, I'll be doing the same as Craig.
    Safe and happy travels to all.

      Steve, thank you so much for your compliments. As you know so many DIY people hear have a limited experience in real life problems. My whole life has been a trouble shooter. Common sense will get you to the problems and solutions.

    Good, logical process for troubleshooting fuel issues. When troubleshooting y new-to-me 1999 motorhome genset, I found the fuel line had been replaced sometime previously but not connected at the tank, probably because the nipple was located on top of the main tank and it required dropping the tank to get to it. I got that done and got fuel flowing all the way to the carburetor, but still no joy. I then tried squirting some starting fluid into the carb and still no go. I then got a spark tester and found that the plug is not getting spark while cranking, but, interestingly enough, it does get spark after the switch is released while the the motor is winding down. I'm at a loss ....

    • @samuelclemons6821
      @samuelclemons6821 Год назад

      @@chefCraigV it seems like the spark is being grounded while cranking, then firing after the button is released. Thought maybe there was something wrong with the switch but nothing obvious…

    iCraig this is another Craig I cannot stand Onan generators every RV that I've had I've had tons of problems and expenses with them even from new I have replaced my class a generator where the champion generator right why are the Onan was and put cooling fans and I hooked up exhaust and I hooked up a pump and hose to fill the generator from my main tank it's remote start as well as 3500 watch and I have no issues whatsoever I will never own a Onan product ever again nice seeing another Craig out there😂😂😮😂

      Same here Craig. I'm installing solar to my rig as we speak. If no shore power at least I'll have a few days without using my generator. Also when I'm rolling down. The highway my batteries are being charged by my engine Alternator. Actually there is no need for a generator in my travels. Just a back up now.

    I had the same issue. Did what you did. But before going to get a new fuel pump, I drove my RV a few miles (I had checked the fuel level, and started it a few times).
    Guess what?! I found the RV fuel gauge had been stuck, and the level was below 1/4 a tank!!!! So no issues with the generator!

    My 2006 motorhome with an Onan 4000 would start and run for about 15 minutes then stall. It would only restart after cooling off for about 30 minutes. The stalling was caused by lack of fuel into the carb. Once again it was a failing Onan electric fuel pump.failure.

      They seem to not tolerate some of the gas being sold these days. Ethanol rocks them.

  • @brianvandy4002

    I just bought an '04 Winnebago and the generator wouldn't start. I pulled the fuel line off and put it into a gas can, then ran the primer for a few minutes. After I got about a quarter gallon of gas in the can, I reconnected the hose and it started right up. That's when I discovered the generator only had 51 hours on it. That line had BAD gas in it.

    The pump doesn't run until the red light comes on so you don't want to let go as soon as the light comes on you want to hold it for about another three or four seconds.
    If you hold it until you hear a change in the sound of the pump you'll know it's up to pressure and the bowl is full.

    They call it "sea foam" because it started as a product for 2 cycle marine engines. There have been mixed reviews online. Scotty Kilmer did do a review of "Gumout Mult System Tune Up" where he used a scope on the cylinder head after 3 tanks of treated gas to verify improvement.

    The answer is... Take the carb apart and clean it! Especially free up the shut off solenoid plunger(and it's easy to get to).
    Btw, you have to prime it a lot longer than you did... More like 10-12 seconds and crank it for 5-10 seconds(when cold). Once it's warm it will start right up.

    • @chefCraigV
      @chefCraigV  Год назад +1
