    Wednesday 19th June
Boy have we had some good conditions!
Today was no exception. This was a fun run with Sam Tom joining us and also Gareth. Both guys had a successful run which was cool and good to see others making progress.
Sam Tom was on a hybrid board which is nuts! And has inspired me to try a shorter board when using a big foil. It goes to show that you don’t need much board assistance for these big foils, especially not the needle style boards that are getting promoted that beginners are often interested in.
So code foils… this was my first run with the 1075r small fuse 120r stab. I did a quick use in a couple micro waves and felt it out before having to cut the foil in half due to a fault/damage to the foil… this was pretty annoying… the foil showed up damaged and to get the warranty replacement I had to show proof of the foil rendered useless. That’s fine but it also left me without the foil for about 3weeks until a replace was shipped. I wish I could have foiled it for those three weeks but what’s done is done.
This is my first impressions of the foil in a dw scenario. My error was putting it on the longer mast… this basically rendered all my thoughts obsolete. I’ve since used the foil on my regular shorter mast and realised my mistakes… the 1075r is not draggy as I thought in this video, it was me riding too low with the longer mast… annoying and it made me think about not releasing this vid… but if you keep this in mind hopefully the vid is not too off the mark. I have also found a way to ride the foil that removes the need for a dominant rear leg. This required me bring my front foot back enough towards the foil pressure to take more load, this removes the front foot from controlling pitch but this is remedied by controlling pitch via the back leg. This is actually a nice stance to use and what I have been working on anyway with the axis foils. It makes turns more engaging leaning through the front foot vs the rear foot.
All in all I’ve found the 1075r an excellent foil and worthy of its place in the market 🫡
I look forward to trying more code gear in the future and have been reinvigorated to try more brands again.
    Be good, ride safe! 🤙🤙

How would you compare this wing to art pro 1121 ?
Have you tried the 860 or 960 ? If so could you give us a pros and cons between art pros and codes R ??

@@yundazy3843 thanks for the question 🤙🤙
The 1075r feels far more like the 1201 than the 1121. I’d compare the 1121 to somewhere in between the 960-860.
So to answer, the 1075 rides far larger than the 1121.
      I’ve tried the 960r too.
Very similar foils in a lot of ways. The biggest difference I feel when riding is the code feels like it has suspension, it feels soft under foot. Axis feels like more of a solid platform under foot.
I enjoy both, what’s the biggest pros and cons?…
Code pros: easy to use (wish they had bigger sizes) general foiling feel, handling turbulence, sexy
Code cons: price, range of sizes, rough finishing, slow warranty, masts
Axis pros- range of sizes, price, good for learners to pros, modular ease, masts
Axis cons- finishing, not sexy, too many options, handling turbulence

@@downwind_drifter Thanks for taking the time for a quality answer !
Have you by Any chance tried the unifoil progression ?
I'm riding the 200 (1300cm²) and the 140 (900cm²) but they feel too slow for supfoil downwind
Therefore i'm looking to buy a new foil
I live in Tahiti, I can get my hands for about same price on either
      -afs pure ha 1100
      -code 960R or 860R
-axis 1121 with power carb hm mast
Decent rider here, 75kg for 1m78 and i'll keep the unifoil for prone and wing so i'm gonna use the new stuff only for sup
What would you do if you were me ?;)
I hope this question does not put you in a bad spot though
      Great content btw

And what do you mean by the mast beeing a weakness ?

    • @downwind_drifter
      @downwind_drifter  24 дня назад +1

@@yundazy3843 I believe axis has the best production mast in the world… my axis 72cm is 11.5mm thick by the foil and short chord and very stiff as in I barely ever notice wobble even with the biggest foils and boards connected together.
The code mast is 15mm thick at the thinnest point and to me I couldnt bare that drag difference…
My friend uses the 170 progression foil for dw and likes it but finds it a touch slow, we had discussed him getting a 140 thinking it might be pretty good!
I’d say stick with what you have to start and build a bit of experience before making decisions.
My guess is the 140 you have could be very good.

How do you find the north horizon board?

    • @downwind_drifter
      @downwind_drifter  5 дней назад +1

@@PanaProductions I’ve found the horizons excellent.
Strong construction is a standout, besides chipping along the hard edge of the rail… likely solved with rail tape.
Design works well for me. It is a rounded hull so that should be taken into consideration. It requires an active stability of sorts as it doesn’t have a flat section to rest on. Good forward speed generation though and bounce because of it.
I like the 8’4 as my all rounder.
Most recent boards of similar dimensions seem really good 🤙🤙
