    A proper actual "posh" hotel would never treat you like that. A hotel trying to be posh, that thinks it's the best, will always treat you like that.

      @OlafProt 15 дней назад +2

      @@7thDaughter one of the things now, is that people run hotels with degrees in hospitality, and a desire to be all over Instagram or TikTok or whatever etc, and sadly, that doesn't mean you have a natural aptitude for looking after the general public, with its every whim and foible, with firmness but good grace and care. There aren't many true hoteliers left anymore, I know a couple and they're dedicated to the job. Like impossibly dedicated. And both of them started as lounge waiters or similar. Customer service can't be learned in many ways, you either can do it, or not. I spent a few joyous years in my early 20s working in a 3-star hotel in south Devon, the manager was one of those bosses you never forget (this is near 30 years ago) and he had the gift. As a result people kept thinking we were a 5-star hotel. Because of the service we offered. Friendly, respectful, relaxed, discreet. As a result the gusts almost always mirrored the staff and there were very few horrors 😂 It was the best time.
      Anyway. I'm generalising horribly.

    • @7thDaughter
      @7thDaughter 14 дней назад +10

      @@OlafProt You're right, it's something that comes naturally. It's being able to put the customer 1st and give them the best experience you can. It takes a certain level of maturity to be able to do that and today it's all about the brand and feelings and not about customer satisfaction. Today was a hard one with this "posh" hotel. It's a good idea to ask staff as you enter if a table is free and let them direct you to a clean table rather than sit at a dirty table and wait to be served. If it's a busy pub at lunch time then yes, grab your table but you also need to inform someone you're there, don't assume it's table service.

    I’ve always taught my children to treat everyone in the same way because you never know who you’re talking to. My father in law had a good friend who was, at the time, one of the wealthiest men on Jersey in the channel islands; he didn’t drive a flash car and rarely flew first class because he always said “ it arrives at the same time”.

      Probably one of the reasons he was one of the wealthiest people on Jersey was because he didn’t waste his money on flash cars and 1st class flights. Old school generation. I had an uncle who to look at you would have thought had little money by the way he lived. Not the case at all. 🙂

      @@Stchristopherofatlantis do you think they were short staffed? I cant see how they could possibly miss you from where you were sat. There needs to be a full enquiry over this debacle, either that or they need to get an electronic means of communication.
      I had a nice meal at Tennants while i was waiting to buy something, its a while ago admittedly, you ordered what you wanted at the counter and paid, then they gave you a flag with the order number to put on the table ( which you obviously organise before you order)You sat down and about five minutes later they brought a cuppa to you and in about another five minutes the meal. I couldn’t believe how quick they were, and the staff were busy. They got a ten out of ten from me on this occasion.
      It’s clearly not like with like i admit with your experience but it seems that there is room for improvement. I admire your tenacity waiting as long as you did without any initial acknowledgement, ie, “i will be with you in a moment madam/sir.”

An apology is in order, it’s not even as though there are not many equally fine establishments in York. I can tell you, having been there before, that this place is absolutely nothing so extra special that it should treat customers like that - especially given that it clearly wasn’t just one member of staff having an off day. I’ll personally be avoiding it like the plague on any future visits after what happened to you, so I thank you for letting us know (and you can quote me on that when you contact them, if you so wish.)

Some have amazing medieval statues , candelabras and pews. Its a shame the more modern shops have been built around so many beautiful gems. Keep your eyes peeled for them, in small side streets. NO, Betty's is NOT "JUST A CUP OF TEA" Guy Fawkes WAS born in York, He was Christened in St Michaels Church, a beautiful Church right next to the Minster. He was imprisoned ,and hanged ,in York Prison ( which still exists within the Castle Museum and is well worth a visit.) The Jorvik Centre is a travel back ,through the rebuild of the ACTUAL Viking village, that was found during excavations under the Street. It's amazing with houses where they actually were excavated. Sights, sounds, smells bring the Vikings back to life. You need , at least, a good 3 days to do a visit to York justice . And you will miss out on most of the sights,:- The Minster, The walls, The Jorvik Viking Centre, The Railway museum , The Castle Museum, (which would take a day alone to visit) The Treasurers House, Fairfax House, Cliffords Tower, if you take dogs. I haven't seen the "posh place" incident yet; I'm only eight minutes into the video. But what an amazing place this city is. So beautiful, everywhere. I'm just glued to this. I'm regretting now, that I didn't take more trips to other parts of England in my youth. At 80, we're not going anywhere. I left England on a boat when I was going on 11. The costs of travel were huge in those days. Once you left you didn't go back. I went back once in 1976 just so my Mum could have a last look. My son must go. I'll tell him. He had an English accent when he was little and he'd never seen England in his life. He loved the Queen and he particularly likes King Charles. Wonderful place, you're visiting. My Dad was from Yorkshire so I wonder if I'm being drawn in, genetically? You never know.

She was very freaked out🤣 The original roads are lower, obviously, and have been built upon several times over the Centuries. As you enter the Jorvik Viking Centre, you will see a wall that's been excavated. It demonstrates the different levels of road, that will have existed during different Historical times. Laughed at how long it took to find whip-ma- gate need google maps Guys lol. Shame about Grays Hotel as a resident of the City and having been there a few times it was unacceptable to wait that long and not get served. I know you had your dogs with you so can’t get onto the walls, there is a gate in the garden at Grays that you can get up on to the walls for those who might be visiting without a pooch.
