I wonder how the oil doesn’t cause problems with regards to affecting the electrical connections ... there must be a certain amount of conductance through the oil especially as the gearbox wears and traces of metal enter the oil stream....it looks like all the connections to the sensors are not IP rated so the only conclusion is that the oil electrical resistance is very high and all metal trace must be captured by the oil filter...

@@GaryFerraro Thanks so much for the response, after changing it out and driving it around for a while and it acts ok, would you say I will be in the clear? Also, that manual valve you pull from old unit and put in the new right? And does it just pull out and simply just push back into the new ? Thanks.
@@lancewright21 Yes, manual valve will slide right out, if it shifts ok hot now, you should be fine
@@GaryFerraro Ty so much for the responses, really appreciate it.
Gary... you mentioned if its good cold then no good when hot. My 05 beetle 1.8t is opposite. bad when cold but gets better when hot. what do you think it could be?
Sounds like something with the trans internals, are there any codes present
Hi Gary, very informative video, but I have a question, my 09G trans is shifting very harshly from 1st to 2nd when hot so I bought a re manufactured solenoid kit, but non of the numbers on the solenoids correspond to the numbers you mentioned or that I have seen on diagrams for the valve body, and the colors of the electrical connectors are different!
Is there any other way of identifying them?
The solenoid kit did not come with instructions? what about the colors of the solenoid connectors, they are all the same?
@@GaryFerraro I have one with a black connector marked 2C which I believe is the TCC as it is the only one with a different tip, 2 more with black connectors marked B4 & C2, one with a brown connector marked B2, one with a yellow connector marked C1, and one with a grey connector marked D4
@@marksutcliffe409 I have nothing that has those numbers, if you would like to e-mail me gsferraro@yahoo.com i can send you what i have
And sorry, no instructions, not sure I would trust a Chinese to English translation even if there were!
One of the wiring plug clips broke when I was pulling them off. Any suggestions for how to connect it back and make sure it stays connected without replacing the wiring loom? My thought was to perhaps plug it in, and cover it plugged in with heat shrink to hold it together?
good idea
My Passat does shift hard when it´s hot jus in 3. and 5. gear, in reverse, and sometimes in 4. gear. Can I now which of the solenoids can I replace or should I replace the whole valve body?
Can we find somewhere which solenoids are for what?
Thanks
I would go with a valvebody, the bores wear out too.

I have a technical question. Im replacing my 2014 VW Jetta 1.8 Valve body. I bought a reman. The issue is I was sent a Gen1 and my car has a Gen 2. They are interchangeable, but the solenoid layout is different. I can find any wiring diagram that give me the layout for the gen 2. Any suggestions?
Hey Phil, Sorry, I forgot to call you back, shop is beyond busy, You need info on a Gen 1 correct. Sorry, can't think straight i have that, i have no info on Gen 2
Video and teardown is of great help. Im having a code P0748 - Pressure Control Solenoid 'A' Electrical, would you be able to help trying to pinpoint which solenoid? greatly appreciated, it is a 2011 Jetta 2.5

I have rebuilt many 09g solenoids. The coating in the factory bushing fail causing the anvil or whatever it called to hang up.
Yes, just like on the 55-50SN units
Can I do it myself?
Hi Gary - have you encounter an issue where it wont go to drive after replacing the valve body? reverse is working but wont engage to D
I never have. Where did you get the valvebody
My vw Passat 2007 has hard shifting when I accelerate hardly. But in normal speed it shifts good. Do you think it's because of valve body or solenoids?
How does the trans work cold compared to when it's hot?
Hi sir did you get a code P0730? Any help will be appreciated.
It may throw a code but how does the trans work cold and how does it work hot?
Is this the same valvebody in a 2006 mini cooper S ?
there are different ones, some may have pressure switches
So weird Gary. I had all codes P0731 P0732 P0733 come and go as I drive it from cold to warm. No OverDrive but I can get it up to 80 kilometers but it maxes out at about 2500 RPMS could this be limp mode as people have said? The book from Volkswagen says change the fluid at 180,000 kilometres I am at exactly 180,000 kilometres. Almost like the computer recognizes my speedometer and it's telling me to change the fluid? I just don't know if changing the fluid would remove all these codes or could it be a whole valve body but if it was the valvebody windows be different codes for the solenoids? So confusing I just purchased did Dan scan tool that will give me live data and I figured since I do my own work it'll end up paying for itself by reducing the amount of parts I need to change on my vehicles. Thanks for all your help I'm not holding it against you if it doesn't workout I am not a professional and although frustrating it is kind of fun
If the fluid is low it can cause these codes, also if there is a speed sensor code it can cause these codes

hi Gary
i have a code PO721 transmission output speed sensor (G195)Implausible signal on my jetta 2007 wolfsburg 2.5
how much would it cost me to get it fixed at the shop or the dealer
you either a bad output speed sensor or a broken wire probably at or near the connector, the last few that i did the wire was broken, they get very brittle for some reason so i would look at that first before a sensor is installed
Hello Gary I’m getting the same code P0721 for my 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. It hasn’t drove for about a year was sitting all that time, I’ve attempted to drive it recently it made it so far and the engine would rev in drive but the car doesn’t move at all neither of the gears.
I am getting a P0721 code and I am going to change the output speed sensor. It looks like I only need to remove that one bolt and harness? Not remove the entire valve body?
Valvebody has to come out to see the sensors but check your wiring first on the outside, the wires get very brittle and break
@@GaryFerraro thanks Gary!!! I will do that for sure. I had other codes come up but since this is the easiest and cheapest and never had a fluid change seems to be the good first step.
@@Jasonjames1970 Do you have a scanner that shows live transmission data?

One point. Your reman valve body didn't come with a spool valve and you swapped the old one over. The workshop manual explicitly states that the spool valves should not be interchanged. My reman VB from StreetSmart came with its own spool valve. Of course I have no way of knowing if it was the original, but I expect it was.
You mean the manual valve

What trans do you have the 09G?
why is common for them to go bad? thanks!
The armature in the solenoid slides through a brass bushing, the bushing gets burred up and the armature sticks when hot, also these valvebodies are known for bore wear

Hey gary is there anyway to contact you? I have a question.

A lot of reaming and solenoids would have to be changed, it would almost the same amount, so i just go for the reman product save some time, it's usually always busy never really slow. Thanks for watching
