hiram is the man, im in the process of doing my b7xa from my 2000 honda accord. You made this whole thing possible, the car would have been scrap if i didnt stumble upon your video. thank you very much for your videos they really are helpful.
EXCELLENT JOB HIRAM!!! Definitely think videos like this are gonna be the next big thing as far as transmission videos go. I think the biggest take-home lesson in this video is you really need to understand how mechanical energy flows through the gear train of the unit you happen to be working on through each gear. When you understand that, you can begin to see when it makes no difference whether certain components are applied or not, and, perhaps more importantly, when certain components CAN'T be applied without causing problems. The coast/overrun clutch pack in a 4L60-E I think is a good example of this. It can be on in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd without affecting the forward acceleration of the vehicle. It CANNOT be on in 4th however due to the need for the forward sprag to freewheel in 4th, and the coast clutch being applied will not allow the forward sprag to freewheel under any circumstances.
Hiram I love how you said the European Transmissions as a 4L60. I say that all the time but most builders are afraid of the newer Asian and European stuff. I have just a small shop in a warehouse and I have other Transmission Shops bringing me work all the Time mainly Hondas and the 09G. I basically Replace The CPC valves with the oversize Sonnax Valves and the Converter charge valve and I put new shaft bushing in everyone. Test the Solenoids and there good as new. Word got out that my Honda builds are a one time install and it took off from there. On the 09Gs mainly just do Valve bodys doing the Sonnax Lock up Oversize valve and Cleaning the bushings on the solenoids ( normally the bushings don't need to be replace ). Out of about 50 09G jobs I ran into a stuck Clutch control valve one time so I just got another valvebody to fix it. Haven't really seen a need for getting the Sonnax clutch control valve reamers. Anyways Love your videos!!!! Keep it up....
Si Hiram, excelente video. Fue muy interesante y entretenido. Gracias a tus videos pude instalar un shift-kit transgo a un RE5f22a y no sabia nada de transmisiones. Saludos de Baja California.
Extremely informative as always. I'm shocked it didn't bust something in the rotating assembly going for third gear. I charge extra for fixing others mistakes I hope you do too. Can't wait for the rebuild video.
Great video hiram had an issue with a zf5hp19 loss of 5th gear after rebuild found all three shift solenoids mechanicly stuck I put a pice of hose on them and had barley any exhaust with them off and I had the mv3 exhausting slightly with it on some times it's the small things that bite you it sure is a learning curve can't wait to see the others
Hiram, love the video... I have a 2009 Jetta 2.5L, w/ the 09G. I am looking for a "good" (excellent) valve body, and I've read there are something like 6 different ones that CAN go into the 09G. My question is, "does it matter"? Can I replace my valve body with "the most recent one"? Do I need to take the old one out and get the exact same one that was in there? If I were to buy a reman (on ebay), are there ones I should avoid vs ones I should look for? I just bought this car, and I'm not getting any weird transmission issues besides a flare in RPMs from 3-4, and only when the car is warmed up. I've been told this is PROBABLY the valve body, and it would be cheaper to get a reman with beefier valves than to have the one in there worked on. thoughts?
thank you for these helpful videos.i have passat b6 with 09G transmission it has bad shifting i changed the fluid in dealer and it is really changed but after about 2 month now it is the same as before.i think the new fluid that i put 2 month ago is mixed with the bad one in the torque converter, because it is really bad when i change 2 month ago it has not changed from 2007 till now , now i want to change whole fluid, but i don't know how much fluid the torque converter needs? help much appreciated
Agreat work done thanks. Sir i request to know what coud be the problem with a 2ZR_FE transmission that has a hash engagement to DRIVE and REVERSE i have changed the valve, secondary&primary drive and also the ATF. Diagnosis code read SOLENOID D. but the problem remains please advice me
Hi I’ve unfortunately got one of these with the same transmission. When cold it is driving and changing gears fine. When it is warm gears are not changing smoothly and are slipping and when you move from D to N or N to R it slams into gear. No fault codes stored on this vehicle
engineer question which solenoid influences to blow in direct? 09g valves, the box was already repaired and the selenoid bushings were changed and a direct blow follows
I have a 2005 Beetle with an 09G transmission. Where is the transmission cooler? There is nothing on top of the transmission and I don't see any coolant lines going to or from the transmission.
Hi, firstly I'd like to say that your videos are very educational. I leave in the UK. I have an Audi A3 2005 1.6 with the 6 speed auto gearbox. I've been having problems with the gears when the car gets up to temperature. It begins with very harsh gear changes and high revs. Then I lost all drive even in reverse gear. I have changed the oil , open and cleaned the valve body . Now the car drives but shifting from N to D or P to R Or D there is a delay and then a sudden thump. I did a diagnostic on the car and it came up with 4 fault codes related to the gearbox. They are as follows P0753 -shift solenoid A electrical P0721 - output shaft speed sensor circuit range/performance P0720 - output shaft speed sensor circuit p0715 - turbine/input shaft speed sensor A circuit Does that mean If I change the sensors and solenoid the problem will be fixed. Any help would be geartly appreciated. Keep doing a good job for us DIYers. Thanks
Sr.Don Hiram Gutierrez ,estoy muy agradecido de ud. resare y le pedire a Dios por ud. ,que le vaya muy bien,y si me enviara algo de una caja Ford F150 XLT en español le regalo a mi hermana Atte. PHS
I have a 05 wv New beattle with a 01045 triptinic swtich code (f-189) not a plausible signal and my car after warming up stars give no all kinds of problems. (Doble bump, harsh engamennt reverse and forward. So my question is? Should I change the tiptronic swtich first hiram?
hi buddy i rebuild a 09g but the clearenceof K1 clutch was 1.40mm with 5 friction and the new frictions whit the same 5 now is 0,65mm the question is can I rebuilt this way thanks
Hey Hiram I have the same transmission and is original no one has messed with it and when it gets hot it's starts slipping gears can u give me any data or tips to start fixiing it
I have a 2006 vw Herta 2.5 that's overheating and won't go into gear. It's throwing code p0721 and had build up in the transmission pan. What do you think is wrong with it?
good afternoon. I am writing to you from another state. how do you adapt the atrimantirovannuyu car transfer box. how is the adaptation mode? Sorry for my English.
Hiram, my granddaughter has a 2004 VW bug with automatic tranny. What are the issues with those and do you have a video on them? I am a new subscriber, Thanks
I know this is an old post and no activity, but I really need some advice on my transmission rebuild. If you could contact me and help I would be very grateful. I have an 04 09g and had rebuilt it myself. It ran great on surface streets and one day I went on the freeway and it got up into 6'th gear with plenty of power and it shifted nice. Then it immediately went back and forth from 6'th - 5'th - 6'th - 5'th then I started slowing down and found out that 1'st didnt fully engagae and slipped out putting it into limp mode. When I got it towed home there was only 5 qrts that came out of the pan. I opened it back up and found K-1 burnt completely up. Could low fluid cause this? My theory is 6'th sucked up fluid leaving pan dry or low and when it had air in the lines it had problems holding 6'th then fried lower gears when I slowed down. Any advice before I close it up again. More information here forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?8832018-2004-Beetle-09G-Transmission-Burnt-K-1-Clutches-HELP!&p=107601282#post107601282
Awesome response time! I watched your video, great information. That is the one thing I did not do. Can you suggest a location where I can pickup a rebuilt valve body without having to take out a loan? With everything I have read everyone suggests replacing it with a rebuild. Could you give an example of what the valve body would do to cause this? So you dont think I screwed up by having a low fluid level? My book says I should have 7.3 on fill, I got out a total of just over 5. I checked it after it warmed up and I ran it through gears and it checked fine. Then the freeway is what started my issues.
!If anyone can help I have a 2006 vw jetta with a bad 09g transmission(code: hrm) can i swap it with a 2008 jetta 09g transmission (code: kbv) which i have access to as donor. If anyone can shine some light on this it would be much appreciated !
Hope they bring it back so we can see Part 2. Excellent tear down and diagnostics. You are a true professional.

Who ever worked on this before you had no business working on a transmission! God damn!
Too many things can go wrong with these things as it is.
