This is competition or exhibition. It has to be hard. If you like you can try simple move at home for execercise purpose. See how it feel for yourself.

I'm so surprised at the amount of people watching the competition in real life. It's so low! This is art and sport combined in one and it deserves a lot more of an audience

Actually they are at a shopping mall, most of people watch from upper floor, just like the people who take the video, or the crowd are at other direction
It's too common in Malaysia
It's a local shopping mall and a teenage level competition. 😂 Malaysia has strong culture of lion dance, and not just the local chinese doing it, the Malays and Indian join too. The adult level is often international championship and I can assure you the number of audience is no where near low 😂

Imagine standing on poles several feet in the air with a guy swinging from your waistband, or hoisting a guy above your head, walking across the platforms while carrying him, and then having him fall in the correct way so he can land on the further platforms. This genuinely looks so hard but they do it so well

The fact that front has to have the strength and balance to let the back one swing by his waist, and the fact that the back one needs to have the strength and balance to hoist the front over his head and carry him across some of the platforms, always just blows my mind. I cant even walk to my car without tripping

It seems like the rear athlete had to be the stronger and more agile. Id like to see a lion where the forward position is the more athletic and intricate.
So much RESPECT for this athletic art form!

The US needs competitions like this - it certainly beats cars going around in circles for hours.
Question: do they know ahead of time how the poles are being set up, or do they set them for each contestant?
If I am not wrong, the teams know the set-up of poles before the competition so they can practice
Each team set own pole formation which they had previously practiced at own temple / association. Prior to competition, they can practice for minutes to get used to the portable setup.
FYI, each formation & action actually got meaning.. some U can see the lion actually looking for water to drink at a mountainous area... or some are playing at the cliff of a high hill... some can simulate drunken lion.. or a bathing lion ( like cat cleaning their body )....

The way they have to be strong to not only lift each other up and throw each other at little platforms but to do that all while balanced and jumping and sometimes spinning is WILD!! They are seriously talented

It's not a belt, the lion pants come with a long piece of cloth that they tie around their waist 😂
