With Wukong iconic phoenix feathers on the lion head, Wukong 闯龙门 , Wukong weapon 金箍棒 and the drummer's team with painted monkey face mask, its a whole package of great performance. Well done SG team!
As a layman, what I see is the beauty of this lion dance is, just felt like its 1 lion and its so lively and handsome, and fierce. Congratulation ＆ well done team YiWei! 加油！

With the new generation performing for KSK and old man Siow and his goons gone, KSK is not going to win another World Genting. Khuan Loke should have won, but I am still glad Yi Wei won tbh
@andrewyuyoungearn2799 Taiwan should have won in 2018 imo. Siow and his goons were still judges during those times. Look at the scores now compared to back then

It's also a good thing that previous world champions have to go through the preliminaries now. A 9.73 score is a large difference compared to the old times
Absolutely agree. I was rooting for both Yiwei from Singapore and the rest of the Malaysian teams (Taman Aman, Khuan Loke and Kin Cho Hong) after KSK fell and couldn’t continue.

I am so amazed by the spectacular performance of the SG Lion Dance Team by Yiwei Athletic Association! : ) I was practically holding my breath for most part of the performance. First of all congrats to Yiwei for breaking the record and took the trophy 🎉🏆 But I gotta say it was Khuanloke’s show last night, 23 difficulties with no deduction, super good storyline, smoothness and express the feeling of the lion. If you want to talk about speed, what about Shanghai? They didn’t even place in the top 3. Khuanloke is too great to be beaten last night, I believed many people were shocked by the scores. They jump most of the poles among every teams. Props were the best too. First day highest score, but on final they improvised with the ending flip and got underscored… 🤔 politic judges
I think SG team has much better coordination with the music tempo and agile footwork. I am esp. impressed with the number of quick backward turns. I got very bored with the slower footwork done by the Malaysian team and I believed they accidentally knocked down something from one of the poles. That’s probably a penalty and so lost some points. On the whole performance, the Malaysian team was too slow for me to appreciate.

But if you were to talk about the natural movement of a lion, definitely different story because everything counts under the judge eyes... the footstep teamwork is also another important part of Lion Dancing. Not just purely fanciful or High Risk Move makes up those points.
No doubt khuan loke have a longer story line, the performance are "laggy" in some parts, slower pace, some stunt are repeated. Lion expression not as vivid. All these are taken in consideration too, that is why YiWei able to get a higher score.
Few teams know how to actually do futsan on the high poles since Goh Chor was around. In this case as well I don't think the expression was all that strong. Futsan lions express emotions through the face and mouth, and traditional futsan never run around with a closed mouth for the whole routine. This lion didn't open its mouth much and seemed in a daze a lot of the time, and it's a shame because the expression carried throughout the rest of the body well. That is why I question how this team's expression stacks up to Khuan Loke or Yi Wei team A in that respect.
@@vkel Fast doesn't always mean good though. It's a problem with modern, tech-addicted society wanting instant rewards and high levels of stimulation that creates this kind of bias. Sometimes slow and steady does indeed with the race, and Khuan Loke's performance explains why. They put a lifelike, thinking, intelligent and nuanced soul in the lion instead of making it a mindless jumping machine like too many teams do nowadays. Yi Wei's lion definitely had strong expression and attitude in parts, but their performance still felt artificial in other areas. Not nearly as bad as I've seen in other futsan in this championship before though, so they still had a great performance overall.

Watch how futsan lions move about traditionally, especially in modern examples from Hong Kong with lo leung drumming, or Jow Ga futsan. Then compare back to this example. The way this futsan head moves is an improvement over past teams in Genting for sure, but it's still often flat in emotional depth and too light-hearted and 'fluffy' the movements.

我是马来西亚华人。这个农历新年在大马不乏看见友族同胞参与舞狮活动。不管是高桩或地上的狮子、狮头狮尾、打鼓敲锣或是观众都能看见马来印度友族的参与。这个现象让大马人感到骄傲。不能否认的事实，舞狮确实源自于中国，海外老华人先贤的传承发扬，后代拼命的延续并可见的继续卓越成长，身为华人是感到非常骄傲。一个人的寿命就只有几十年，后代的传承却是一代又一代生生不息。新加坡队的孙悟空创意和中华传承令我倾佩，我看见了用心（我想是孙悟空大闹龙宫，还有金箍棒，这个太棒了）。我想孙悟空是大部分生肖猴的偶像。每个狮队，从地上打鼓到高桩上的狮子付出的莫大的心血、凝聚众人的希望，单是这一点就很震撼了。民间传统表演艺术最后也是留给世界的文化遗产。更是感谢各大延续舞狮传统和精神的团体，不管他们身在何国何处，今天还能看见舞狮表演就是幸福。
