To anyone thinking of doing this - I’ve been doing cold showers for 2 weeks. The first 2-3 days are difficult, it was hard to work down from warm to cold, and I didn’t enjoy the cold water at all. By day 4 - I felt like my body was getting used to it, I could get to cold quicker, it felt less bad, I could stay under the cold water for longer. Now I go in with the water a few degrees above cold, then after a few seconds go straight down to cold and it feels fine - I actually enjoy the cold feeling, and feel refreshed afterwards and sleep better. I went to the beach yesterday, and normally don’t like the feeling of wading into the water as it feels too cold etc. now I just go straight in, and it feels great.
Seriously try it out, and push through the first few days it will be worth it.

I'm going to do this, and I was sucking up all of your pep talk, but you really lost me when you said, "it feels fine"!!! But I'm still going to do it. It just would have been more believable if you had said "it was more tolerable". Feeling fine in cold water isn't a believable attractive feeling right now.

    • @MrSteeeevo
      @MrSteeeevo 2 года назад +2

@@reasoningtruth well I was tempted to edit my comment and replace fine with tolerable - on some days tolerable would be a better word for it. The point I was hoping to make was that I found it overall a positive thing to do, am still doing it now, and that although it feels difficult at first, you will adapt quickly. Best of luck if you give it a go.

@@MrSteeeevo I was joking! I was doing this many years ago, even before Dr. Berg had the Ice Man on. But I am going to start on my next shower. (I think I'm going to be getting very smelly)!!!

Additionally, I stopped alcohol about 14 months ago.
I changed several habits over about a year as I was pre diabetic, chronically fatigued all the time with awful insomnia.

Cold shower melts away stress. You feel stronger at the end. Also no more fogged mirror. For those with dry skin, it doesn't dry out the skin. Its quicker, since the air feels warmer than the cold water and you want out as soon as you're done.
We live pretty comfortable lives and it gives you a sense of accomplishment, of having done something difficult pretty early in your day. You'll carry this good mood as you carry on with your day.

I've been taking cold showers for one year and a half now. I worked for the Indonesian military for one year and they didn't have hot water on their bases. Now I'm in Korea and I still kept the habit of taking cold showers. I'll see if I can keep at it even during the winter. I notice that my skin has improved a lot. Now it's super smooth even when I don't moisturize. And it's true about joints as well. My knees used to crack a lot because I had an injury when I was 8 and my synovy liquid (that protects your joint) leaked. Now they don't crack anymore when I bend my knees or squat.

When you’re sick it’s bad idea, cause cold shower suppress immune system when sick, body will have to work more to get warm, and that’s not good when your sick.Everybody talks good about cold showers, and they ignoring the risk of dangerous expecially for lungs
I did it cold showers for 2 months sveryday, and I felt very strong and relaxed after every cold shower, but I had lung infection after 2 months, I’m not saying that only cold showers cause pneumonia but I knew that these cold showers helped the infection.
Ice bath is more brutal and hard to achieve but it’s much safier than cold showers, cause when you do I ce bathing all body will go inside that cold trauma and body will get adaptation easier , but from hot shower immediately to cold shower ( what I did) it’s not good , cause that will make big stress and shock expecially in chest area, leading to vasoconstriction of blood vessels in lungs, and if is winter time and flu around, that can open the door for lung infections.
I will never practice cold showrs again winter time = high risk -
      for getting sick
Hot to cold showers = high risk for getting sick
If you’re already sick that even more dangerous.
If you want benefits you better practice ice bath, cause cold showers are bad idea.

I am a 73 year old mental health therapist, working in the Washington County Jail. I introduced myself to cold water immersion in the mid 70's while hiking through the Colorado Rockies. I started using outdoor cold showers (summer time only) in the late 80's out of necessity; wife and 4 children with one bathroom. A little less than three years ago, I purposed to take cold showers (and only cold) every day for a year. I stretched that into two years and now am doing every other day as I approach the end of my 3rd year. I do not take medications of any kind, nor vaccinations, and it has been over 3 years since I have been ill. To be absolutely forthright, during this period of time, I have indulged in 10 to 12 warm/hot showers due to excessive dirt or just feeling puny. Things I have noticed during this experiment: I spend more time outside regardless of temperature with tee shirt, slacks, and bare feet; normal anxiety has significantly decreased; mental concepts about "cold" have changed, and my passion for experimenting on my biological potential is magnified. I've been taking cold showers for over three years now, and I've noticed the colder the water is the better the benefits. Unfortunately, the water isn't always cold where I live in NC, but in the winter months I do reap the benefits of this type of therapy the most, I think. The benefits I've noticed are better cognitive function, decreased stress and inflammation, muscle injuries go away within two baths or so, and my mood is greatly lifted. I would venture to say cold water therapy is miraculous in its benefits. I recently ventured up North to New England for an 11-day vacation, and I experienced the coldest water I've ever been in, in my life. During this time, I was suffering from a really bad kidney stone. It wasn't until I got into this freezing cold water that I noticed a dramatic difference in my level of pain, and once I downed two 20-ounce cups of celery juice over a two-day period, I was healed completely of my stone! I believe the celery juice helped me pass the stone, and the super freezing cold water reduced my pain to almost zero for many hours after each shower. I would stay in these showers for over 30 minutes, letting the cold water penetrate the area of my body that hurt. Cold showers have been one of several things I've done over the past few years that I will continue to do for the rest of my life.

I spent a couple of months with cold showers in the morning. It was really good once I got used to the shock. I found that regulating my breathing helped with the shock of the cold and tried not to hold my breath but to just keep breathing deeply and within 20 to 30 seconds I was usually feeling pretty well adjusted. It had the best after effect on me and I felt full of energy for the next hour or so and of course wide awake too. It also had the added bonus of speeding up my morning routine which allowed me more time to do other things afterwards. I’m a fan, but it takes daily effort to do it in my experience. I also listened to Shinzen Young talk about cold water therapy during a zen retreat, where he had to stand under a freezing waterfall daily for several months as part of a retreat. He claimed it helped him drop a lot of attachments, which is never a bad thing.

I swim in cold water a lot in the ocean, lakes and even got scuba certified 3 years ago in a very cold and deep (50') river. The body definitely adapts to the cold in a positive, invigorating way. I agree that it should be done incrementally to allow time for adaptation.

When my dad was working (retired now), when his alarm went off in the mornings always immediately he turned the alarm off and walked straight in to the bathroom and took a cold shower like a real viking. I could never do that.

One of the best things I ever done in my life to improve overall health is enjoying a very cold Jacuzzi for 2-5 minutes after working out. Benefits I experienced are:
      1- Mood booster.
      2- Skin enhancer.
      3- Sleeping improved.
      4- Instant muscle recovery.
      5- libido booster.
      6- Immune system improved.
And I believe there is much more but these are the things that I noticed on myself.
Be strong and do it, believe me, it worth it.

I am in menopause and have been eating keto for years. While I initially lost 50 pounds, I then was stuck and fluctuated and had a lot more to lose. I was frustrated and every time I would do more fasting or more extreme keto I would end up losing, gaining back with a higher reset point. That point where somehow you can't go below... A few weeks ago I decided to start doing cold baths which in my view is probably better than cold showers. I take them at night for about 10 minutes.. I have found that it doesn't have to be extreme cold, just enough to get me goosebumps and shivers. Hands and feet in the water at the same time help that. I have lost over 10 pounds and finally gotten below a reset point I have had for 3 years. I don't know how far this will work, but I am encouraged at this simple solution, hoping it will keep working into the future. The other health benefits are also noticeable.. mental clarity is much stronger and I feel that clean feeling in and out most of the time. I also have tested calories vs keto and it works either way for weight loss.. so far. But what a breakthrough so far just taking cold baths, especially during menopause when it is so much harder to lose weight... and the cost of a bath and not having to buy or ingest all kinds of things is great and I have not exercised beyond walking my dog as usual.

I’ve been taking cold showers consistently for about a year now. I’ve noticed that Keeping my cool in stressful situations comes naturally, the energy and mood boost is great, I also used cold showers in conjunction with quitting porn and self gratification. The cold showers helped to the point where I don’t think I could have successfully done it without them.

I used to get cold feet at night and would have to use a hot water bottle or wear socks to get my feet warm. I have been taking a cold shower every day for a few weeks and I no longer have the problem with cold feet. It has also reduced my anxiety and I think it has made me more resilient. I don’t think I will ever go back to hot showers.

I have extended my open water swim season and here I am today still taking the plunge on nearly a daily basis in North Carolina. I can tell you that I am absolutely invigorated once I take my @30 minute tread in waters as low as 42 degrees. I hate missing a day because I feel so good in the midst of it..yes, the first few minutes will take your breath away but over time I can see how my body is adapting and I can now enter the water without gaspig like I did initially. I am hooked and plan on continuing..

Thank you for the video. Yesterday I went to a Kun fu martial are class. The instructor is a Grand Master in the art. He has been taking cold showers all his life. He was explaining about cold showers and the benefits of them. He is 80 years old and he is in great physical health and his mind is incredibly sharp. I was in awe of watching this man. He is a Buddhist and follows vegetarian diet. Myself I am a carnivore and only eat meat. Low level inflammation from no carbs is in creditable and the weight loss is a big plus. Going to try cold showers starting today and see how it works out.

I've never used it as a therapy, but I have always naturally preferred colder showers. It also keeps your skin from getting wrinkly as you age! Also, hot showers make my skin itchy.

I always remember at school in the changing rooms when I was a teen, before doing our Rugby lesson once we were misbehaving so the teacher,as a punishment made us all get in the cold showers. I will never forget how we all felt afterwards when we dried off, got out on the field outside on a cold day. I felt great
I didn't feel the cold and just felt energised. Sod it, I'm going to have a cold bath tomorrow morning.

Start with a warm shower to get rid of dirt with body wash and then 3 minutes on the coldest setting. 20 mins is a stretch, 3 minutes is more than enough.

In case this helps anyone, I'm a few days into this by alternating warm and cold, gradually getting the water colder and colder. Now I'm able to finish with cold. I DO feel great, and it's very doable. Some people use cold face baths against ageing, and doing this in the shower is easy. For anyone serious about living a full life and having more chances to make a positive impact - this is free and doesn't take additional time. As people say, being able to do the "hard" things ultimately makes life easier; doing easy things makes it harder. All the best wishes to you! I trust that good things will come to you as you build the great life you want. You're never alone!
