Covering your whole body is one of my key strategies to keep biting bugs at bay, and I’ll guide you on the best techniques and gear to use. What is the best method that you’ve used to repel biting bugs? Any remedies passed down from many generations?

mosquitos are terrible flyers...(!) a simple breeze is hell to them, that's why they use plants and leaves to cover and rest from any wind... they are attracted by gasses we [all animals] exhale... that's what they use... a chemical detector... every strong smell we use masks those chemicals, and that's how it works... strong smelling oily perfumes [oily so they'll last longer] will do!... they ''sniff us out to find us, but when they are near us they detect our temperature to spot us... when we hear them is too late... they already know we're there too... smoke makes them go for the same reason... wrong heat signature and strong smell...

This is one of those topics that preppers don't spend enough time thinking about, insect borne disease. I've heard that mosquitos have killed more humans than any other animal (malaria, dengue, West Nile, yellow fever, Zika, chikungunya), while bubonic plague (black death) was primarily spread by fleas. Sanitation tends to be a less popular topic, but historically after disasters that tends to kill a lot of people who would have otherwise survived.

Not going to lie one night in Iraq in 2005 we were sleeping out in this field and me and my buddy drenched ourselves in premethrin because the sand fleas and biting creatures were so bad, we knew the danger but the bugs were bad. Im usually the same about trying not to use premetherin and insect repellents but it was bad enough we gave in and everybody that didnt use it got destroyed, i made sure after that to treat my uniforms, poncho, and woobie so it could dry and be done properly.

G'day Mr. Salyer & camera woman. Well, we survived the challenge, but it took a lot out of us, especially the twins. It was their idea to do the extra days, but we did it and thank you for your kind words. Dad reckons it will be a while before we can be like On3. We will.! Remedies & Repellents -- We wash our outdoors clothes including socks, gloves etc with eucalyptus & tee tree through the washing machine (no detergent), it also sanitized the washer. Mozzies gets attracted to human body odour & heat, shield that than you're covered. So many high-tech gadgets nowadays but one got our attention. (CI-45). Love this chat show and you have a beautiful backyard. Mum plants herbs around the house, from lemongrass to lavender to chillies. The house smells of lavender and frangipani. No bugs here but we do get the occasional snakes now and then. Untill next adventure, thank you Mr.Salyer.

Smoldering Horsehoof fungus in a canteen cup or bushpot , which Mors Kochansky taught , can drive off mosquitoes to a degree ; you can also set it a smoldering on top of a green stick , split on the end , like a Tiki Torch . That's good in the North where there's Birch Trees to collect the fungus on , maybe not so much down South where you are though . Also burning punky wood works as well .

It could also work to put pine resin on your socks and pants because ticks are going to stick on it. However I have purchased permethrin to spray on my boots and backpack and I also spray myself with a mixture of essential oils but that only works for 6 hours and if it's hot way shorter. But also if tickbites itch you properly developing a imune reaction. Sometimes they do itch and I have noticed the tick is already dead when I pulled it off. When I first had them they where always still alive. But I'm still freaked out of these monsters and hesitate to do any wildcamping.
