    I have just gotten a Pi 4 to keep my brain in gear. When I was a programmer folk's kept saying how great Python was so I thought I'd have a look since walking the dog can't be all that retirement is about. I found this presentation very interesting and helpful. I banged my head on the wall, when having quickly hunted down a pdf of the Dummies book, I hit play only for you to say how it was deprecated duhhh! (Maybe the non python initial chapters may be of some use?). I agree entirely with your view on IDE's, 'horses for courses' etc. I worked on a project once based on using SMX, and of a sudden they changed it to ThreadX because the IDE was better. Bloody mental I thought. An IDE is a tool, a craftsman knows how to use different tools for the best result. :-)

    Which raspberry Pi version should I start with or does it matter my assumption is they’re small computers and the newer version just means it’s faster?

    • @aaronmorgan2475
      @aaronmorgan2475 3 года назад +1

      pi 4 2gb ram is among the best bang for buck. pi zero wifi is the minimum id go for. the pi 4 2gb or pi 3b seem to be the go to boards. the one gain i can think of for the pi 3 is it has a full hdmi port instead of two micro hdmi. the pi 4 can run two screens but full hdmi can be convenient . Im working on an 8 gb ram pi4 because its faster and i like prototyping on it then i can send code over to less expensive boards for dedicated projects.
      if you prefer making robots that take analog data too you may consider an arduino. they dont connect to the internet but they are low power draw and can take 6-20 volts and convert them to 5v. the biggest downside is they are programmed in c++ but if you use platform ide you arent missing out on much.

    Hello Eli. My name is Ken Flucas. I purchased the Python for Dummies book. In the book it says it will use Anaconda throughout the book. I've tried downloading Anaconda on my Raspberry Pi but it falls each time. I found a forum where someone said that Anaconda is not compatible with the Raspberry Pi processor & that's why the download fails. Do you know this to be true? Or do you know a way to properly load Anaconda with VS Code on the Raspberry Pi 4? Thank you.

    When reading the program, the assignment operator should be pronounced "is assigned" not "equals". So,
    pir = MotionSensor(4)
    would be read "pir is assigned MotionSensor four" . Many instructors make this mistake. "Equals" is a comparison operator, which in Python is "==". The equal sign, =, is an assignment operator.
