- Today AD is welcomed to Toronto, Ontario by the inimitable Matty Matheson for a tour of his newly opened restaurant, Prime Seafood Palace. Not your typical lobster shack, The Bear star worked with architect Omar Gandhi to imbue the dining room with a stylish, timeless feel, where warm tones and sinuous furniture compliment his menu's hearty offerings.

Matty loves to give off ‘I’m an idiot vibe’ when we really know that in fact dude is whip smart and clever AF. It took me a long time to realise that. He is such a talented chef and deep thoughtful human being. I hope his restaurant brings him the success that he deserves 🥰

The culinary industry is a very competitive sector especially in big cities like Toronto. So seeing Matt hire someone who doesn’t design restaurants to design his restaurant to set him apart is pretty smart . The final result is 💯. Love it .

As a contractor who mainly builds high end restaurants, this architect knocked it out of the park. The finishes on this unit are insane

I’m in grad school for architecture and would seriously lose my mind if someone as creative, fun, and curious as Matty were my client. He sounds like a blast to work with.
My dad was an architect before he retired and he loved it. It’s a rewarding career. As a kid, it was super cool watching him make models of buildings. You’re gonna have tons of fun.
This restaurant’s aesthetic is so unlike Matty’s persona it’s hysterical.
I didnt expect such appreciation for Architecture from Matty! I used to watch him cooking with DEEP FRY OIL, WITHOUT A SHIRT! HAHAHA Then he has this magnificent restaurant. Kudos Matty!
Something I realized, people who are deeply embedded in any art form, often appreciate other art forms very much, even ones they don't have knowledge of. Knowing the depths of one, makes you respect the others.

I really appreciate the inclusion of Omar Gandhi into the AD video, as he obviously made many valuable contributions to the architecture of the building!! Other AD videos only have the current owner and exclude the architect, so this is really cool.
I am floored by the amount of time, care, and thoughtfulness that went into this restaurant. It was definitely worth it! I would love to dine (with friends and family) in this gem of a restaurant! 👍

It's everything it looks like in the videos and more. Great vibe and great music to boot. We loved it.
He may look like a hillbilly stoner, but Matty is so unassuming and wicked cool. The fact that he acts silly but all his ideas in both food and architecture are sensible and filled with nostalgia.
In 1986 I lived in the top floor apt of the building next door to this restaurant. It was 940 1/2 Queen St. W. My two roommates and I would climb out of my bedroom window to go on the roof of Matty's restaurant. We had no other private outdoor space so this was all ours. We would usually sun ourselves and drink beer or wine of course. The usual stuff 21 year olds do to be adult like. I think the building use to be a garment factory. Not sure. Was very nice to see how lovely it all is now.
I love how Matty sprinkles gems of the humor that made me a fan of his. "When they come down, the aliens, they'll be like - "this place is kinda tight".
exactly the kind of AD interview I’d expect from Matty. class it up a bit from his normal unbridled chaos, but absolutely a couple bits of said unbridled chaos. “when they come down, the aliens” 😂😂😂

This is one of my favorite episode yet. Matty and Omar are so proud and excited about the place. Such good vibes!!! So nice of Matty to bring the designer for the visit. I love all the inspirations for the project... And the place looks AMAZING! I'm vegan and I can't wait to eat at this Seafood and Steak place... LOL Only 7 hours aways. ;) Congrats to Matty and I'm sure the place is going to be a hit!
As a Finn, I'm so proud that you took a combination of Scandinavian and Japanese influences! If I was in Toronto and visited this restaurant, I'd feel completely home. Such an inviting place and I love Matty's attitude in the video!

This restaurant is incredible, it’s so refined I absolutely understand why it took 6 years. The Asian and Scandinavian influences perfectly complement each other yet.. it’s clearly a freakin diner! I’m obsessed with the booth tables and madly jealous of the pots and pans. True art is balanced and the beauty of this restaurant is perfectly balanced with the beauty of the food and the beauty of the experiences people will share here. Congratulations! You’re earned every success

It gives me such joy that Matty mentioned how long it took for the design and completion of this restaurant. I'm assuming Omar's office designed the base building and the interior?
Regardless, a 6 year collaboration with designers, carpenters and engineers is what it takes for good quality. Let this be a lesson to anyone pushing creatives to do quality quickly.
This is a WAY more classy look than I expected from Matty.

This restaurant is "eye swooning" from exterior to interior. Omar is a wonderful architect informed by Matty's inspiration. Love the simplicity, Scandi/Japandi aesthetic that permeates this space evoking taste and calm-then there is Matty who I simply cannot take at all. He is the antithesis of everything minimalist !
I discovered Matty during covid lockdown and his joyous videos kept me so entertained! Love his example of hard work and family man!
It looks so similar to the restaurant in The Bear.

So impressed with what Matty and his design team pulled off here. Love the vibe, love the functionality (or the appearance of it) and the amount of care and intention placed on this. I work in the AV technology space, and I'm always blown away of projects like these that don't leverage the auditory experience elevation with this type of space. I work with some chefs here in Vegas and I absolutely love when they pay this level of attention to detail AND take into account the opportunity to elevate the experience with amazing audio, lighting and video if applicable.

Every detail is just perfection. Even the restroom was gorgeous, maybe even my favorite part. The sink is definitely an awesome touch.

I love Matty and I love that he has written a love letter to his family and the tradespeople that are hardworking and love the land.
This gives off a homey but elevated and sophisticated take to a restaurant- I can picture how it would really come alive full of costumers sharing conversation surrounded by rich food aromas.
Working as a server for the past 10 years I can see how this would be really hard to keep pristine (those sheep skin seat covers 😬) still super sick. Keep on keeping on Matty 🤟🏻

Matty, I’m a big fan of yours, I believe you have broken the stereotypes of what a cook show should be like, and once again you’ve hit the nail on the head by contracting this very talented architect....I’ll definitely look into his work...his taste is exquisite😍 I am an architect myself, and have a couple of projects going on. It’s pretentious but the bathroom at fine dining restaurants actually makes a difference. You’re often there for 2-3 hours and will definitely use the bathroom so it needs design elements too! Matty and his designer did an excellent job on this place.
The nicest bathroom I've ever seen was inside a fine dining restaurant. Chef's kisses 10/10 detail

AD please return here in one year. I feel like this is the sort of place that looks beautiful until you put the public through it for a couple of months and the leather is stained and the brass all has fingerprints all over it. I'm very interested to know how this place is going to age in 3, 6, 12, 24 months.
