With their reimagining of this newly built apartment in bustling Kowloon, owners and interior designers Alice and Brian chose to minimise waste by retaining the existing floor plan and keeping all walls and appliances intact. Instead, they introduced clever spatial interventions, the primary being an “attic” into which they added deep overhead cabinets that can be competitively accessed from the living room. A series of practical and functional walnut-clad joinery and furniture throughout, including a custom-designed shoe cabinet with an integrated slide-out bar table and a hydraulic lift platform bed, blend seamlessly into the space creating a cohesive and efficient home within the limited footprint.

One of the smartest solutions to an apartment under 30sqm I've seen that neither compromises on aesthetic or function. Well well done guys!
LITTLE JOHNNY DID IT BETTER
I loved the approach of not ripping out what existed and to make it work into the vision. Amazing what they did with the space. So much storage. The hidden table that slides out is so practical as well. Bravo! ❤
It's a very helpful video for people who live in rental units and can't remove walls or hang things on the walls. They wouldn't be able to install the attic storage or the hanging storage units, but the wall mounted cabinet under the tv could be built with legs, and the bed with storage underneath could be done as long as it wasn't attached to the floor or walls. All the new storage units would be fine as free standing pieces.
There aren't enough videos on the channel that deal with rental units, and I wish they'd showcase more.
Amazing how 24 square metres can be configured and nice joinery. I feel luxurious having 54!
An apartment located in the mega constrained Hong Kong and designed by two interior designers? Lots to learn from. I love the simple minimalistic design. Also loved that they made use of existing cabinets and fixtures to reduce wastage. Quite often you'll see designers removing existing cabinets and stuffs so I really appreciate their mindset. Good job to the owners and Never Too Small crew for this wonderful episode!
It looks so much bigger than 24 sqm and it seems so practical, so well thought through: welldone
I love how the existing kitchen looks with the walnut cabinets. Goes to show we don't need to change everything, especially when it's perfectly functional. The colour scheme of the apartment is beautiful, I wish we could've seen the small balcony, it looks very serene. I lived in 30 sqm in my twenties and it wasn't nearly as spacious as this place- the power of great design.
I'm so impressed that two people live here. That kitchen is amazing. They took a tiny kitchen in a tiny apartment and made it into a spacious kitchen with lots of counter and storage space without overwhelming the tiny apartment. I'm also really impressed with that makeup station. It's so perfectly multi-functional.
It was cool to see an apartment that kept the original layout and wall structure.
The interior designers chose to keep the original floor plan - a decision that I agree with. The original floor plan was good enough, and there is no need for dramatic alterations such as dismantling a wall. One upside I noticed about the original floor plan was that there is unobstructed passage from the entrance to the balcony - you don't need to go around anything like a kitchen counter or wall. Such unobstructed passage from the entrance to that balcony allows natural light to fill the entire room once the curtains are open.
The good thing is that the interior designers purchased the place. Though the original floor plan was kept intact, ownership of the place gave them the freedom to fit the apartment to their comfort and liking, such as installing extra cabinets - both the wall-length ones and the mounted ones.
Great content! 👍
The false ceiling storage space is a fantastic touch
One of the best micro appartments I have seen. Attractive and practical with creative furniture and storage design solutions.
As a HK guy, IMO the main issue the interior desgin from HK always focus on storage. So end up cabinets everywhere, make the space even more depressed surrounded by all these wooden boxes. The very popular platform storage in bedroom even make it worse. Another thing is this designer decided to keep some of the existing wooden fixture like the door or the floor that totally not matching their walnut theme. This make the space feel too busy will all these different pattern and color of wood element. Is good to see the designer try to fully untilize the space but come on, for me I really don't want to eat just next to a shoe cabinet 😅
This is proof that if storage is done well, actual square footage is not that important. They have utilized every square inch of this home, even to the point of lowering the ceiling to create more storage. Truly an amazing design, and more importantly, a livable one, in spite of being the size of a hotel room. Really well done!
24sqm
I say well done.
A clam, uncluttered space.
An amazing amount of storage.
Wow, I'm impressed how you are able to live clutter free!! 🙌🙌🙌
So zen. ❤
Own nothing and be happy.
I'd like to see the apartment when they haven't tidied up for a video.
@@williamreinhard What's the point of designing all that storage if you don't use it? 😆
@@kismetau I'm sure they do use the storage, just wondering how tidy everything stays during real life. Small spaces can get messy quickly, but the nice thing is they are also quick to clean up.
Crazy part is that a this costs over a million dollars for this new apartment in HK.
Hello from Hong Kong!! The design from this video is very very common in HK as most apartments are around the same size.
Some may even put the bed in a higher level so that they can have more work space below .
So true, this is such a bland design in comparison to other micro homes.
@@kellie7010i reckon the size of Hong Kong apartment is too small to handle even for the master mind designer, because it is consider 500sft “too small” in other countries. But I still love the design idea of some of the European apartment in this channel ~ ❤
Yes! I’m from HK too. Such a very normal things in HK. Our home only 244 sq feet living four ppls family.
Love the idea of combing three armless chairs to make a sofa! Also allows the flexibility for single seating configuration as and when needed [like when you have a guest/talking to each other].
This one seems like it actually might be "Too Small," but then you remember that you have all of Hong Kong to explore.
The space seems just this side of too tight even for just two, but all the additional storage and the huge bed must be the envy of the neighbors.
Amazing use of the space yet still creating a comfortable living apartment. Hats off to the designers.
Beautiful precision in a calming textural oasis amid a drab, weathered cityscape
The platform bed is a clever move. Nice way of making use of the same bedroom footprint to accommodate more storage space. Overall, it's a nice home.
Great thought through space! In love with wooden finish color❤ Platform bed is the best in confined living spaces like this! Also went with this idea with my husband for our 30sqm apartment and half of the "junk" clutter is in there😁🙈
This is so clever ! It highlights the need for hidden storage everywhere so that there is no clutter. I would add a lot of art and plants myself. I feel
Very fortunate to have 58 sqm in my one bedroom apartment!
Perfectly livable for a single person. Very well thought out space
Maybe…but a couple “live” there.
Lets not glorify living in a closet as "perfectly livable". You dont need a 1000 m2 mansion, but come one this is living like a caged mouse. I could probably do 3-4 years here but anymore than that is like having a literal prison cell lol
In Hong Kong's low income homes, this space could live a family more than 6 members!
My husband's childhood home was much smaller than this space (basically a square with no internal walls), and they were able to live there over 20 years as a family of 6, with multiple bunkbeds, fordable chairs, table and so on. Definitely not as nicely designed, but at least a place to live comfortably and didn't need to share bathrooms with neighbours.
@@Omgiamsotriggered I lived in this size with my partner for years. It was nice but I would have loved it even more with 2 separate rooms as shown here. But I would hate all these dark buildins. They are suffocating, the color does not really go well with the existing kitchen etc, and in the bedroom i would probably bump into the furniture every single time I need to go to the bathroom. I mean, the pullout kitchen table makes the owner look like a child, he cannot even sit there comfortable due to its heigth. Without all the added "desinnged"elements though, I could see myself living there. On the other hand I really dont want to know the prize. "Boutique building" probably means: extreme high price. And in that case, i prefer any old boy which I can make my own to this.
@@KarMa-ws3ll Just because something can be made "livable" doesnt mean its a good way to live. Literal farm animals live in better and bigger spaces. Just because u have a partner doesnt mean u need to spend 24/7 time with him/her and in places like these u have no self-privacy at all. I live in a 70m2 apartment by myself and even I sometimes find the space small because due to lack of storage. Would love to have a separate storage room or something like a garage. I cant even fanthom living in something that is 1/3 of my flat lol.
Depends on one's lifestyle I guess but the whole apartment feels like a storage room with storage on the walls, the ceiling and under the bed.
If it was my apartment I would open up the space and take down the wall between the living and bedroom. The 3 meters ceiling height allows for a mezzanine for sleeping and I would have a big open living, kitchen, study and dining as one space.
Too much storage means too much stuff 80% of which you probably don't need.
That's just me. 😊
I totally agree.
With you - the whole 'we love the high ceilings' then ruining them with ugly dark wood is weird to me. At least put the ceiling storage in the kitchen and let the living area breathe with nice vertical space. I'd feel really trapped in this sterile storage box.
Wow, they really utilized the most of the space they had available. Impressive! And nice finishes as well!
I love the simple minimalistic design. Also loved that they made use of existing cabinets and fixtures to reduce wastage. Good job to the owners and Never Too Small crew for this wonderful episode
This is such a great apartment and layout. Everything from the custom furniture, the material choices and the calm/peaceful vibe is very well thought out!
3:48 : while clever, it really does not look comfortable - either the desk is too high or the chair to low. Love the 2 different rooms ,that is so important, when you are not living alone! Very nice! liveded in 23 sqm and 19 sqm apartment with my partner for years. Also during the pandemic (working from home). The 19 sqm was a very modern Microapartment, that had lots of storage and clever solutions like folding desk, builtins over the desk etc. What I can say after living in both of them for years: I preferred the old-style Apartment with out design and no buildins.. After a while in the microappartment, I just hated that there was zero flexibility in changing the layout. And i did not need all the tiny compartments. I rather pair down my stuff then having a tiny space filled with buildins which I hav to navigate.
this is claustrophobic for me
@KarMa-ws311. I agree. The twist out counter top is a great idea but a shame it is too high. It should be the same height as the kitchen counters. The other work table in the living room looks uncomfortable too. They mention It is height adjustable so it might be better if they can lower it a bit. He looks very uncomfortable sitting at it in the video. 6:17
After having lived in a single room (with my husband) that was under 100 square feet this past year, I thought this place was huge!
Charming, convenient, upbeat! That is the beat of this flat. The City of HK itself is the extension of your home. ❤
Beautifully done! Storage to the max!
Beautifully done. I love how minimal and zen it still looks with due to the integrated storage.
Bravo on the storage solutions! Impressive to have a full height fridge too in a space of 28 square metres.
I'm glad that you have a shelf for decorative sentimental items to make the space homely for you.
The balcony also adds greater perceived space despite it being very small.
Wow! Only 24 sqm, but you truly made the most of it! It's compact, but very functional, and it looks pleasant as well.
What lovely design. The colours and storage solutions are excellent and the whole apartment seems so calm. Really like the bedroom and the way the dressing table divides it from the bathroom space. The balcony is great, wish we could have seen it a bit more. Overall, such a well designed and formed small liviing space. Fantastic.
Wow. Amazing. I could live here quite easily. Well thought out storage heaps of light and a balcony. The timber and the grey meld well together.
Perfection! So amazing! I wonder how one accesses the back of the attic storages though. The only thing I would add is an ottoman near the sofa to be able to put feet up and maybe a sofatable, which might be converted into a dining table, cause where would you eat otherwise ❤? Eat... or play fun cardgames or the like
loved this apartment. it was interesting to see a project where the space was left the same, and the final result looks so cosy and functional. Loved how there's so much storage space and everything is usable.
What a beautiful functional and airy space!
this home is really well thought off!! kudus to the couple for being such good IDs!
I just can’t believe you can have ALL that in 24sqm!! So much storage and a separated bedroom!! Very impressive 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Fantastic!!! Brilliant usage of space in this tiny apartment while still looking stylish and calm. This is definitely amongst my top 3 on this channel. Well done!!!
What a great example for a very small 2 ppl apartment.
ive never seen such a small space wth such sound functionality while the interior design remains amazing. And it even has a balcony!
just not satisfied with the dining table too small for me but i believe a customized foldable one isnt too difficult if needed.
Glad they showcase another unit in Hong Kong. I always wanted to see how they would design their space in such a small unit, especially in a densely populated area. A little disappointed as they keep the existing built-in joinery, if not they can design to fully utilise the space for their lifestyle, but good as they do not want to waste the materials built there. The furniture selection is important; they use Muji sofas due to their smaller build which is very wise. Hope to see more projects from densely populated areas in the future.
wow clever utilization of space and storage! impressive!
That Walnut is Gorgeous !!!
Amazing organisation! Great design in such a small apartment.
Congratulations.
I love the entire apartment but it’s also amazing on how much storage there is.
Such smart space-saving solutions. I also love seeing interior designers featured alongside architects on this channel, more please!
Very well designed!
Bring, stylish, cuuuute and very practical. I love
As good as it gets for the square footage. impeccable and timeless taste. fabulous.
I love that they made the best of what they had
Congratulation to the designer and owner .
Truly well thought, LOVE it.
Brilliant work Alice and Brian!
so well done! using the height of the space really makes a difference.
I love how the didn't compromise on storage space for the sake of aesthetic!
This is the most layout i'd waiting for so long . Love ❤
Great use of space, both practical and aesthetically pleasing 🙂
WOW... just WOW... you were even able to fit a separate bedroom.
to live within 20 m2 with 2 people is a challenge itself. but the design made it possible. chapeau!
A well planned layout and ease so much worries. ❤❤
So tiny, so wonderfull, designed with so many comfortable storage.
Alone this extra small bedroom door is such a cosy extra.
I was hopping to see on all the these small apartment ideas also one under 30 qm and also in Hong Kong
One of the best so far
amazing what can be achieved and particularly like the automatic "get your partner out of bed" bed! lol well done!
One of the best I’ve seen in this channel. Outstanding!
Yes!! Hong Kong apartments are small but often very innovative and multifunctional. The location of their apartment is so convenient I think it’s perfect for a young couple like them. It’s busy outside but in their home it is modern and calming. It feels like a cozy home 🫶🏼
beautiful and smart arrangement
amazing so small yet so functional. Any house this size but that can accommodate young children will be the next challenge.
Superb. I could easily live here and not change a thing.
I like the material and color selection. 👍
Beautiful design.
This design is freaking amazing!🎉❤
This one is insane! Mega
Love the attic idea!
Her voice is very soothing !
Oooooo, i like this!!
this is the first apartment of which I would say it is too small. But it is good to see that the space is showing some of the normal clutter you would have simply living in a space. Many of the other videos show a neatly cleaned room.
Nice. Greetings from Malaysia. It gave me a great idea for a platform bed I had in mind, I will try to find out about the "electronic hydraulic system" to raise my bed & platform! Thanks much.
I like the colour and wood scheme. I can live there 😊
Acho esse tom de madeira tão aconchegante. Os espaços parecem bem maiores do que realmente são. Eu amo designer inteligentes. Que casa maravilhosa
Wow, can’t believe it’s only 24sqm! 👍 ❤
Goodness me, this is a tiny flat especially for two persons
Welcome to Hong Kong
I liked the house and very well they have used space to create storage
Imagine how useful space it would be if people would stop having huge TV like that
Definitely too small for my liking but kudos for being so strategic in utilizing all the space in such small square footage 😊
Very nice and practical. 😮
Very usable for such a small space!
Very well done!
Nice modern micro-apartment. I would imagine that whoever sleeps on the bed nearer the windows would have to disturb the other person to get up.
my first thought
Very approach! This is a one video that names this channel
I wish we had housing options like this in NYC. 🙏🏿
'we liked the celing hight'
Puts attic storage above every room XDDD
What a cute appartment, well done! But what a sad view from the window, I wouldn't be able to leave with such view
Pure genious! Elegant genious.
great video!
great use of the space :)
Would love to discover more of the designs in other Chinese cities too. I had a workshop on urban planning in Shenzhen, Macau and Shanghai and it was fascinating to see how creative some of the designs were incorporating feng shui, minimalism yet warmth altogether.
This is great.
