Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Hands-On - Pretty Genius?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 янв 2024
- Meet the Galaxy S24 series, a very familiar look, but with a new slogan that focuses more on something else. Samsung is calling out that its Galaxy AI is here, and I know, the term Artificial Intelligence is everywhere today, not just here. What's interesting, though is that Samsung's approach is unique in a couple of ways, and dare I say, most of which are pretty awesome. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's dive into our hands-on.

Dude I watch your reviews since when I was 15,
You brought me to IT. TY!
I think cell phone manufacturers should switch to every 2 years for cell phone releases. Cell phones are made to last and people aren't noticing 10 percent increase in processing and 20% battery increases
They do it yearly for a reason, to a intelligent consumer, a one year cicle is unnecessary but its lucrative cause people still do refresh every other year, and theres companies that offers you a 1 refresh every year and you pay half the phone but its a way to trap you in to a constant type of subscription
So yes, companies will still do it yearly cause theres money on the table.
Also....if they switch to a 2 year release...they'll charge u twice as much for a phone to make up for that missed year
@@itech3639 and they will not update the hardware... for 2 years... so they will produce a upgraded phone that they could have made in 1 year... with outdated hardware that they call new... which is stagnation...
I want hologram phones... i want the most bleeding edge possible... 1 year cycles to me isn't fast enough... honestly...
Technology should advance... not stagnate
I totally disagree. Nobody forces people to update every year. Having a regular S24 6.2’ in a S23 body is always nice to have. Same for larger battery. Either you buy an older and cheaper S23 or a newer S24. It’s up to everyone choice.
There are new people finishing their contracts all the time
Still loving your videos from the start of pocket now!
I wish Samsung would take the regular model more seriously. Not everybody wants a giant phone.
Yep. Should be S24, S24 Pro, S24+, S24 Pro+. Or whatever naming nomenclature you like, but you get the idea.
Or better yet,
S24
S24 Ultra
Note 24
Note 24 Ultra
It's a little phone. You don't need a Quad+ panel, 1080p is just fine. They are giving it the variable refresh rate, 120-1.
I want 8" phone
And exynos 2400@@SuperYankeechick
Going on year 7 with my GS8. This has been the most exciting lineup of galaxy phones since then.
I got the s8+. I’m not sure which model to go for.
Dont go for S24. Total ripoff. Exactly same as S23 ultra except Galaxy AI, which is also coming to S23 Ultra lol. It has literally zero difference.
@@timurklc6912not true. Different colors flat display, and better battery and camera
I had my S8+ screen broke but it was laggy in 2020 so i got the Note 20 Ultra is so damn fast, powerful enough to last more. S24 is probably the most upgradeable phone because of built in AI, that with over time will have other capabilities that a non AI ones has that can only work via the processor, and software. I'm still keeping my $1k+ note 20 Ultra but because my Budget of what i earn.
No expandable storage... or SD Memory card slot... 😠
Missed pocket now.. good to know you're doing great Jaime! My OG.. all the way from google nexus 7.
Thank you for this video.
I haven't been this excited to get a new phone this much since the wait between the Note 7 and Note 8.
Of course nowhere near as excited but the most since then. Been stuck on a boring Pixel 8 Pro
Phone call live translation is amazing function, which makes the distance between different country ppl becomes narrowed.
Good job Sammmy!!!!!
Except it can't tell exactly what you're saying and translates everything wrong.
Wow, that's factually inaccurate
@@jayjthdon't take my word for it, checkout MrWhosTheBoss initial review of the s24 ultra.
I pre ordered yesterday. My first non note galaxy. I'm actually pretty excited.
Preordered mine a couple minutes ago
you mention potentially trusting this phone with social media - are there specific improvements that make you feel that way? isn't it on the apps themselves to optimize further?
I managed to pre order the Samsung Ultra 24 1 tb in blue during the unpacked event! :)
I did mess up the billing address but the bank called and I confirmed the transaction so it's all good! :)
How?! I can't even log into my account
@jerbsherb4391 it was lagging and the app kept crashing as well as the website but I was able to order mine finally after a couple tries
sold! Ordered mine and it's arriving on 31st! got a free buds and after trade paid 650 for the Ultra!
Coverage must be made on Samsung's small print clause that states AI features are free until 2025.
We don't know when they'll charge users, how much they'll charge, will each feature be a separate charge, or whether or not the built in AI features are treated differently to web based AI features regarding charges?
Since AI is the focus of this phone I think glossing over the fact it's only available for a year is more than a bit deceptive.
Nobody ordering the phone today knows what they are buying and what is a limited time free sample.
I personally think they will follow paths of most fitness apps and charge for that. Kinda stupid to just charge for A I that is free with the pixel and other phones
Agreed, fortunately for me, thebAI feature didn't drive my decision, but for others, this is a huge miss for Samsung.
@@Grind.Harder77AI will NOT be free on Pixel's indefinitely. Nor on many other flagships. Charging people in some way for access to the latest and most innovative AI improvements will make tech companies SO MUCH lovely money. It is why some are so hungry to develop it.
Great lighting on your video. So tired of the overexposed RUclips faces on all Galaxy Unpacked preview videos.
I've pre ordered my purple S24 Ultra this evening, excited for all the AI features and the cameras! Cheers ❤😊
Awesome. The Purple looks beautiful.
When is supposed to drop? You did do it through Samsung?
They’re going to charge u for those ai features in 2025.
Don't get too comfortable with AI since they will charge you for them eventually. It costs a ton of money to develop and run AI they have to train their AI and store data in expensive servers that run on very expensive graphics cards and use a ton of power. Someone has to pay for that and the phone sale alone does not cover it unless they raised phone prices by $100+.
@@Sulfen i agree but the ultra did see a price hike i believe, the s series are just expensive and i would expect the premium phones to have premium features and not pay additional for it, i would understand the A and M series having a subscription model tho,
and also samsung better be more transparent about subscription and not pitch it in at the end of keynotes which basically no one reads, it's misleading
I Got the titanium black. Dropping jan end !
I'm very happy with my upgrade to the S24 Plus.
S24 Ultra got more refined, maybe next year S25 Ultra will be the real upgrade
it'll be an even smaller upgrade
And that's the problem, these small upgrades aren't enough to justify a purchase for years. I'll probably upgrade my S20 in 2025 or 2026
@@ocanica3184 do you update your home TV every year? Or your car (considering you're not a car geek)? Could you look at it that way? If anything, this shows that phone companies have finally been able to build products that can last as long as they should. While there was a lot to improve in one year throughout the last decade, now phones, in general, have reached their peak stability and can be relied on for a long period.
@@ocanica3184 so you just wait 3 years for it to be worthwhile
@@ocanica3184Isn’t that a good thing? The s20 is still good enough for you and will last a couple more years. I don’t get why people are begging for their phones to be outdated as soon as a new one is released.
Awesome phone 🎉
Why you had not make a review of iPhone 15 pro this year, Jaime?
Really disappointed that they don’t bring magnetic qi2 charging
What did I just do ! I just pre-ordered a 24+ to upgrade from my Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
The last Samsung I had was the S4 Active. The only main reason I need to upgrade my Mate 20 Pro is because of the battery life it's quickly falling off the cliff by 2pm. Not bad for a 6 year old phone !
I love the flat glass front, something I hated on the Mate 20 Pro. I also like the iphone'ish styling without the hideous iPhone pricing and eco system (I'm a Mac user, but not an iPhone user anymore)
I can't wait to order one and upgrade from my S21 Ultra.
What happened to waiting 1 more year for the s25 ultra? lol
They are charging for the AI features at the end of 2025
@@Ght-ye6ls I get why they are charging for it because AI is expensive to run and improve. But this will basically kill AI for most consumers on the Galaxy lineup. Google is a massive company and they can afford to take the hit if it means it will kill their competition on AI.
My S22 Ultra will most of the same as a S24 Ultra, even though I got a 512g S24 Ultra because my carrier offered me $800.
I went into my gallery, chose a picture, clicked on an object, then click the "Eye Icon" at the top right & you'll get basically the same Circle to Search option. .
I do like that the S24 Ultra cameras will pair to my Tab S7+
Ordered the Titanium Orange.
If you are going to order this phone, make sure you use educational discounts and saved an extra $87.
Maybe I should hold onto my note 9 for a little longer. Can't decide whether I should go for S24 ultra or wait for zfold later this year.
I like curved screens. The flat sides make it look like it's in a case
I think I definitely wanna upgrade to the s24 plus I never used the s pen 😅
I came from 13 years of mostly owning iPhones (one or two androids in between) and I always forget that I have the pen. Even when I get asked if I have a pen and paper to write something down it never occurs to me that my phone has a pen.
S24 isn't really a big upgrade from the s23 especially if you compare the s23 to the Exynos s24 version.
There is alot of nice upgrades
@@JamesThomas-dn6ee what upgrades are you referring to?
@@elazarkotkes there are plenty actually pay attention
@@JamesThomas-dn6ee Yeah but its a downgrade if you get the new Exynos. I would very much rather have the Snapdragon. Seems confusing they decided to switch back for this generation
Smartphone technology has plateaued for the last few years. The SoC has been fast enough already for every day task as well. That's why it's a good thing that google and samsung promise update for 7 years, so people can use their phones for longer. It's better for the environment as well.
yeaahhhhh I can't wait to switch over from the iphone to this beauty.
They collaborated with social media apps to optimize the camera in the S22 series, right?
thats what i remember too, they said it again for the s23 series

This new Galaxy S23 looks good.
Nowadays what doesn't make sense is: Curved displays getting cheaper.
And flat displays getting costy.😅
Wut hahaha
They know the curved screens will crack... so of course they will take that chance to double or even quadruple that investment...
Curved displays are a pain. Every screen protector I've used doesn't work. It either bubbles or it peels or the fingerprint sensor doesn't work. Right now on my S23 Ultra I am using a case with a built in plastic screen protector which will not protect it from cracking if it ever falls. On my iPhones I use cheap tempered glass protectors that do not bubble up at all and when they fall and crack it always protects the screen. Also when the curved screen does crack the price to replace is a bit ridiculous.
In my opinion they ditched the Curved displays for a new Money Maker Investment... maybe they plan to have a paid subscription to AI... and if that is the case... they would want the phones to be more durable...
It's a Guaranteed Income Stream of done correctly... and again, being that the Phone would be the thing that solidifies that income stream..Stream... of course they would want to have the Phone be as durable as possible... again... in my opinion...
This looks like a good upgrade from my S22 Ultra, i love the squared flat screen
This is probably the most feature Rich smartphone in the iPhone era..
Best wishes to Samsung and there a smartphone team.
Thank yiu Jamie for this and pocket now after the years of not visiting or viewing the new smartphones, this is a new step forward to upgrade, I'm using Samsung galaxy s22 ultra intl now, I'm happy with it, but sometimes the battery is not that good if you use the phone, as heavy user, maybe think about to upgrade to Samsung galaxy s24 ultra the 1TB, I want larger size storage, my s22 ultra is 512GB almost half of it I consumed. Because I love shooting photos and reels for Instagram. Some people here that love or likes samsung need more storage than previous model, me too, i want 2TB. 😅
Now just waiting the tests to show how bad deal EU gets with Exynos. Sammy does not even specify the chipset in its EU websites so it must be really bad...
Not really, the chipset has already been benchmarked and it is pretty close to the snap gen 3 for galaxy. Difference is not very large.
@@chromecobaltit's not about benchmarks. Benchmarks show peak performance. For reference peak performance is only used by your phone less than 1% of the time.
To see how good it is you have to look at efficiency, battery drain, and heat management. That's where exynos always falls flat
@@chromecobalt I care less about raw performance (while more is of course better) but quite a bit about power consumption, which has lately been the weak point of Exynos, especially if the network is not the strongest.
And that's exactly why I'm still using my Galaxy S10
I'm upgrading from my S21U, which still feels like a bit of an unnecessary upgrade, if the back wasn't opening up and the battery wasn't trash I'd keep it another year or two. I guess I'll repair it in a few months and keep it around as a backup phone
Will s23u cases fit the s24u?
Hell yeah
I bought the a54 a few weeks ago on huge discount, and I'm so glad I didn't go for the S23 as i managed to get a 43in TV with my a54 for less than the price of a s23. Now I see the s24 looks 99% like the a54 I'm even more happy with my decision. I mean, with covers, people won't tell the difference 😊
seeing this on my ocean blue galaxy note 9 (2018)8gb ram 512gb... that one s still running strong.. except the camera quality s gone down, otherwise rock solid phone!
I have the samsung galaxy s21 5g plus Is it worth getting the s24 plus Or should I wait more years
I love the Ultra but i wish the specs from Ultra , in a small phone
Can they work with Instagram to just get normal 3:2 portrait photos supported :[
2600 nits is amazing!
Wow amazing upgrade! They changed the number 23 to 24, impressive!
The market is really tight right now they are all scrambling to invent or improve the next best phone feature and this year it seems like AI is it. It used to be hardware like the processor to or the battery or the screen or their modem chip. But now everything is basically perfected and there is only one company in the world who can manufacture the fastest and most power efficient chips (TSMC) so everyone basically hit the ceiling in terms of faster phones.
I’m holding out for a fold with an internal s-pen.
From what I've seen in video comparisons, seems like the s24 ultra display is is crisper than the s23 ultra. Maybe because of the flatter display?
Its nice but im holding onto my 23u and 14PM😊
The AI features are only included for the first year. After that you have to pay extra for them.
I like curved screens..gonna keep my 23 ultra
It's using Google AI very nice few features.
Sticking to my flip5. Nothing new here.
I hate this new 2:1 aspect ratio on youtube videos.
You can easily make a video fill the screen on a phone but you can't do it on a pc. I can't find any extension that actually works
I want 7 inch screen ultra
Do we have a sim slot in US?
Yes. I looked at the product description on T-mobile's website for their pre-orders and the box says it comes with a Sim ejector.
Just make a Samsung Ultra 24 Mini and call it good!
AI features were disappointing not much added to what's already available on the Pixel. The only interesting one is circle to search and it is not exclusive to Samsung.
Upgrading from S21 ultra to the S24 ultra! If you pre-order via google-fi you can get the 512gb ultra for $700. So excited!
- Yes there's a clause that they may charge for AI after 2025 on select devices. Maybe they'll use that to force ppl to upgrade to new phones or be subject to subscription. We don't know for sure yet but they'll definitely see a revolt if they are the first to do that.
By 2026, who knows what kind of devices we'll be using. Maybe phones will be obsolete and we'll have AI Integrated into something else. Plug AI into my brain! lmao.
I'm surprised that no one is talking about the fact that you'll have to pay for these AI features from next year
Smartphone innovation has plateaued now.
Every single YT tech reviewer says " finally a flat screen"
Should have called it S22 Ultra Max with its "incremental" updates.
What, like adding a usb c and calling it a 15?
Just rocking the S23 Ultra. Debating if I should jump to the S24. Wondering if the software upgrades will roll out for us S23 Ultra users or if they're keeping it exclusive to the new phones.
They said older models will receive this features in the months ahead
@@Tranman409 i hope so
Basically a software update is the new s24 nice
Does it still have the same shutter lag/slow shutter?
I saw another video where they improved the shutter by almost half so I think it's about the same as Apple's shutter speed.
it's still way slower unfortunately@@Sulfen

Why can't the ultra be the size of the 24?! Just why.
Is anyone aware that the AI features will only be free until the end of 2025? Now you know
Not to even mention it n then bury it in the fine print is so lame. They don’t even give u the courtesy to tell us much they’re gonna charge. I cancelled my preorder on those tactics alone.
Was considering trading my s23 in, sure am glad I found out about this before I pulled the trigger. Not even a consideration now. Bet most that pre-ordered were not aware of this.
The S24+ would be the phone of the year for Samsung, QHD was what it was lacking
As long as you’re not in Europe.
Bro you don't age or what? Looking sharp
I still have my Galaxy Note 10+ but I'm thinking either S24 Ultra or S23 Ultra. Any suggestions? 😊
The S23 Ultra Should get a price cut SInce the S24 Ultra is released. I would personally recommend the S23 Ultra because most of the features from 6.1 should be ported over. And there isn't much hardware differences but the flat screen and the titanium flame.
You have to pay for Al after one year crazy
Its nice that their f8nally fixing Instagram (for 1 phone maker...) but we need to remember that Instagram is the one who is in the wrong. Theyve been sitting around for years. Ignoring the android base complaining that the images look significantly worse from their phones. And for no reason at all. The work around has been 3rd party apps and direct uploads to the site. But the filters and other features of the in app camera are way worse on android compared to ios. And again, for no good reason.
Am tired of this ultra review all over RUclips, you guys should try n review the base model as well
The opening comment could not be more wrong. Products / hardware is not yet the best in class yet. we expect more improvements hardware wise as well.
Commentaries regarding the camera lens array and that it hasn't changed are now uniquely Samsung Ultra. We can spot an iPhone from 50 yards away. Who complains about that?
Raising the Ultra's price $100 more for what? Titanium? Bummer.
Also will be charging for AI features beginning 2025.
@@malcomerogers4504end of 2025
You pay this much money for a slow charge. Was gonna buy it
Everyone is talking about the Ultra. It’s just way too big. The 24 is the perfect size.
I remember when slab phones were exiting to have, not anymore. The competition got so narrow that one company wants to be so bad like Apple and the rest don't show any new features besides lights on the back of the phone or being a gaming phone. We have the foldables but that's the new exciting feature now these days. RIP HTC, LG, Motorola and more.
Is there a...S24 FE?
3:50 i dont buy the smaller bezel nonsense. The bezel should not be only the glass part, it should be measured from the frame. You can clearly see that the bezel is greater on s24u compared to s23u.
Thank the lord flatness!!
I think im still good with my S23 ultra 😅
AI features are free until end 2025, then it's subscription based
"Ah yes!!!
