    You need to place a piece of cardboard under your crucible to prevent it sticking to the fire brick inside the furnace… 👍🏻👍🏻 works an absolute treat

    Just add force air and It should actually completely liquefy it. I made my inlet pipe too long on my waste oil/diesel fuel burner and it completely turned it liquid within a half hour from cold start.

    Thanks for showing us this. I intend to give it a shot as well. I have used heat guard castable coating good for 3250° Fahrenheit. But you're showing me here is that it might not work. The heat guard isn't IR reflective coating so more of the heat will be directed inwards towards the melt. If that fails I will probably try stepping up to a veg oil burner.

    Haha, been wanting to melt iron in mine as well, but I should probably reinforce the furnace first. But like other commenters indicated, forced air is the key. ✊🏻🖤

    Melting steel is a pretty tall order for a small furnace. You looking at temps of around 2,800f/1,540c. You might be able to do cast iron which is still pretty hot. I bet it can handle copper and brass with no problem.

      Copper was no problem at all. Have not tried brass yet as I don't have any in the scrap pile.

      @@KevinChainey copper melts at 1984 deg F. That's lower than most steels. Most are in the 2200 to 2500 deg F.

      😂😂 it can be done. If customized correctly.

      Melting steel is not something that home workshops should be doing without first doing a great deal of reading up on safety and potential dangers with molten steel.

      Maybe you should say first, can the the furnace melt steel and if it can then give us all a lecture about safety.@@howardosborne8647

    If you cant pour it its not really a melt

    use cast iron chunks it will work, take less temp but will be pushing that furnace.

    The crucible is acting as an insulator, pretty sure if you left the metal over the brick/wool or over the crucible itself it would of molten.

    Hi!
    Can I use Liquified Petroleum Gas or LPG instead of propane?
    Btw. Big Fan!
    Regards,

      @KevinChainey  4 месяца назад

      I have not tried LPG because we don't have a hook up at my shop for it. In theory it can be but you might need bigger orifices to allow more gas in as LPG normally has less BTUs then propane. Thanks for watching!

      Yes the refractory cement that came with this furnace could not handle the heat, but other than the lid being a little warp and some new refractory coating this thing is still going. Just not for steel.
