I do that also, but my dog doesn’t care when I leave. When I leave the house, she’s laying in her bed, looking up at me and then goes back to sleep. And now you know, people will think it’s sadness, but trust me it isn’t.

    Nope to Number 10.
When I come home after work I make as big a fuss of my fur babies as they need.
There is always someone in our house so they are seldom left alone but a big fuss when they see mum coming in after a long shift is exactly what they get.

Taking your dog fir a really good walk before you leave is essential!!!!
They will be tired and relaxed and less likely to cause any trouble.
They will sleep most of the day as well.

I have to disagree on making a dog kennel in the home illegal. My Chorkie (Yorkie/Chihuahua)has been kennel trained since weaned from her mom. She came to me in a kennel and now at 4+ years old, she goes into her kennel whenever she wants. When I leave my home, she is kenneled for her safety. Her kennel is at my bedside, she is 5lb, the kennel is rated for a 20lb dog. It has a water dish, toys, plenty of blankets(she likes to make a cave, lol), she gets a wee cookie too and in the summer there is an
a/c unit in the room so she does not get too hot. In the winter, she has a special mat that warms using her body heat so she is never too cold. The kennel is covered enough so she can hide herself, or lay out in the light. It has a 3" thick memory foam pillow that covers the bottom so she is not laying on the hard floor of the kennel.
Should there be a fire, she is easy to find, the stickers are on my apt. window and doors letting rescuers know she is there in the event of an emergency and I'm not there.
I am never away from her more than 4 hrs.MAX, that was the pact I made when I got her and that is only if I go grocery shopping.(dogs are not allowed in any Walmart, Shoppers Drug Store, restaurants here in Canada so that is why. Otherwise she is with me on other shopping trips.
Infrequently she will ask to sleep in my bed and I am happy to have her company, although I am ever vigilant that I don't squish her. (She moves..lol)
I love her with all my heart, and in my case, I do not see her being kenneled as any type of cruelty.
Tiny dogs can get themselves into situations, stuck in places and may bark incessently when allowed to roam free. My pup is very content in her safe spot, she happily chooses to go in there on the occasions when she knows she won't be coming with me. She is welcome in all of my friend's homes and she loves her car rides.
This is a win win for us.❤

How would the Sweetish Government know? If you left your dog at home for more than six hours and used the crate/cage as transport and how would they know if it's in the house? I mean my dog here in America has a crate/cage in the house. He finds it to be comforting and his own little place to chill out and be by himself for a little bit. Dogs are ALWAYS being touched by people. So they need a break from that and they go in the crate/cage for a bit. I do agree about the second law no dog should be left home for six hours or more I just don't understand how the gov would know about either one of these laws being broken.

    • @AngelCatBaby
      @AngelCatBaby Месяц назад +8

I never needed a crate to keep them my fur baby in them while I was away from the home. But the owner I originally got my female from was always in the crate/cage and left there till he got home. I was given the dog after the original owner gave it to someone else. But this guy had been cruel and abusive towards her. My daughter rescued her and later gave her to me, because the two females didn’t get along and she knew I would be good to her. I named her Maggie May after Rod Stewart’s song. She was my constant companion and she knew what I was expecting from her. The only time she actually left her urnine and fleeces on the floor was the first time when we moved into our new home. After this, I made sure to keep my eye on her actions and I would quietly correct her, and gently I found out later the person living before us in our home were breeding and raising dogs, 18 of them left their scent on the floor, and/or by the doors and more-so in one bedroom where they were being kept in cages. It took 2 or 3 times of saying out, but afterwards, she never did it anymore, she knew she was NOT to do it in the house. Any animal will mark their scent if other animals had gone there before them, it’s their way of saying I was here, while the other one will mark over it and say, it’s mine now, covering their territory and claiming it as their own. It’s another way of communicating to each other. 👍❤️🙏🏼

I have two dogs, I make sure they’ve gone out a few times before I leave them. I do put them in my kitchen with a kiddie gate to lock them in there. I leave their bed in the kitchen with water & a few puppy pads. They won’t drink or eat while I’m gone, but as soon as I’m home they’ll drink again. It’s funny, they both know when I’m going out because I change & put my outside shoes on. I just have to say kitchen, and they both go there. I give them both hugs when I get home, and let them out again (fenced yard).

~ My dog was at daycare daily. Omg $40.00 daily…..I thought that was great but she actually stop eating at daycare etc and she preferred to be at home if I leave her………I would tell her , “I’ll be right back”, turn on the smurfs or jazz music for dogs if I could not take her and I’ve been told she does not even bark……she’s adjusted to a routine……..but most of the time she is with me (emotional support animal) and she loves to meet and greet the world~

However, i leave the house for an hour every morning without him from day one with him. He knows, and i pet him then tell him mummy bye byes, a little treat and just go. A little too treat on my return and he is fine. Once a month i have to leave him for 5 hours and do same routine. I leave the Chill channel on tv for a little gentle noise. And he has his place on the back of the couch at the gront of the house to checkout the neighbourhood.
We walk twice a day with beach, so he's a happy chappy.

My little girl loves watching Little House on the Prarie. Soothing music, voices, animals, etc. My Dobie likes to sleep on my bed. He's not crated because of his size. When I leave, I make sure he has windows in the front and back of the house to look out of. I also tell them I'll be home soon and to be good dogs while I'm gone. This signals I'm leaving now. They already know when I start to get ready to go that I'm leaving. This video was pretty spot on. In response, Yes, that's fine for Sweden. I, however, have two dogs. A small, 10 year old female with cancer and a large, 3 year old 115 pound Doberman who loves her but is way to rough with her. Her only protection from him is to separate them and I'm not locking him up. He's a rescue that was turned in because his first owner was in a wheel chair and couldn't control him as a young dog, so he locked him up in a spare room. The barking complaints forced the landlord to say either you go or the dog goes. So, guess who got dumped? That's not happening with me. I'm retired and 100% disabled. The only time I go out is to a dr. appt., pick up prescriptions, and to the store, etc. I'm gone maybe 2-3 hours. That's the last county heard from about crates.

I don't leave him more than 1-2 hrs at most, and that was gradual to build up to that. If I have to be gone longer, he's going to daycare. I notice he loves wearing his sweater and thought about getting him a thunder shirt. It's supposed to be very calming. He's a velcro dog, but I have helped him gain more confidence to be alone over time and to know that he's going to be ok. My calm has impacted his ability to stay calm.

I have always had dogs capable of being free-fed. I don't remember if I trained them that way or got lucky. None of my dogs were ever overweight; I had one I was always asking the vet if he was getting enough food. The vet said he was good but the reason he looks thin is because so many dogs we see daily are overweight. One of my dogs I had trained to move their food or water dish to a certain location if it was empty. A handy reminder. I also trained one to ring bells to go outside. Oh my, I regretted that because he always wanted to go outside, not just for elimination. We had a big fenced in yard.

A rule of thumb for young dogs and potty breaks are 1 hour for each month of age plus 1. So, a pup up to 7 months old is unlikely to make it through a 8 hour work day plus drive home.
Females who haven't been spayed may feel like urinating more frequently than usual during their heat cycle which could lead to unexpected accidents compared to normal.

Some breeds handle being alone better than others. I wanted a Cavalier for decades, but waited until I was retired due to their well known separation anxiety. This guy gets frantic if I'm in the next room, even though he can see and hear me. I have a regular weekly sitter to stay with him while I grocery shop and run errands. Companion breeds are wonderful, loving dogs, but not ideally suited to those who must be out frequently.

I have English springer spaniels, and common wisdom says they suffer from separation anxiety, but mine have always done just fine on their own. I have cameras so I can check in on them and see how they're doing, and they get along just fine without me. They're happy to see me when I get home but they do just fine while I'm gone. Honestly I feel like this guys tips might be overkill. At a certain point you're just babying your dog to the point where they never learn to cope with things.
It's certainly true that if you tire your dog out before you leave they'll be sleepy and just sleep through it and never really know you're gone. But then they will never learn to cope with it when you have to leave and can't take them for a long walk first.
Leave them some toys to play with. Make sure they have water. Adult dogs can go for a couple of days without food if they need to, so I wouldn't worry about food unless you're going to be gone for over 24 hours. And don't just leave a new dog alone for long periods of time. Start small. A couple of hours. Then build up to leaving them for longer periods of time.
And 2 dogs is better than one, but I used to have just 1 dog, and she did just fine playing with my cats.

Don't leave them with screamers, or guys who sing like monsters. That's for people. Leave them with the wrong music, you come home to a guard dog, like a vicious toy poodle! If my mother has a dr appt we take the aussie and the mini aussie to go herding sheep or to puppy day camp. Her service dog comes with us. My full size aussie is also diabetic trained but only for a stand by if her dog has a vet appt etc. We do leave them alone for an hour to go food shopping or something like that... our mini american shepard is 8 months old but he does really well.. frozen kong toy with peanut butter and dog food in it but we do kennel him due to the peanut butter. We also go for a long walk before we leave them alone for even an hour. My dogs are also used to me and my husband leaving we give the place command (dog beds not kennels) and they lay down and get comfy in our bedroom. The service dogs place is in my mom's room. When we do leave them alone we tell google to play relaxing dog music.. it is like 8 hours long it is on youtube.

Have had more than 30 dogs, in 72, years, I miss them terribly, these videos make me laugh, and cry, packed with love, for mans best friend. Get a dog at the shelter, I would, they come to you, if they like you, then take her, him, home. Happy adventure with furry friends, so blessed.

adjust your life and job in such a way you don't ever have to leave him or her alone for an entire work day. remote work, take them with you while you Uber, one spouse or the other stay home, come home frequently....if you're life requires you to leave at 7 am and not come back for 10 hours you may not be in a place in your life that you can be a responsible doggie owner

For us, it is all separation. The breeder said, "Come and get our baby boy early
The mother was having a hard time with her bite as she was nursing. All the way home, he cried. He's probably missing his brothers and sisters 😊 every time we are out in the car. He starts barking because he thinks we are leaving our little boy. We now go outside the car and walk with the car till we leave home. He und the turn signals and vehicle showing and get very worked up. 😊 but the whole problem started his baby anxiety from leaving mom early. I don't know how you changed. I changed this exact ignore his barking 😊 mom said I have had enough of my litter and atop the bites,
please. He's a baby boy ( mini Australian), so I just work him to understand. On the last episode of BLUE BLOODS he did watch the taps at the funeral and kept watching TV and moving his head to say goodbye to a long series TV program 😊❤😊

#2: food is left out 24/7, Tippy 🐶 and Klondike 🐱 never over eat. They eat when they're hungry and stop when they're full.
Klondike learn this after we adopted him, poor little kitten barely had enough food to eat from his last home (woman heart was in the right place taking in cats but financially couldn't provide). Klondike saw a bowl of food and put it away, I refilled the bowl, he was surprised and ate some more, bowl went empty and I filled it up again and again until Klondike was stuffed. He quickly learned that he will always have food and water and got better at not eating so much. He put on some well needed weight and became healthy. Klondike is 8 years old and still isn't fat.

He had me till he started talking about not leaving food. Free feeding is super easy to train. Your dog knows when they are hungry when they are trained to free feed, they will nibble when they want and ignore it the rest of the time. This is great for when you might end up having to stay out way longer than expected. Small dogs, especially need to be able to nibble to keep sugar levels even. If you have a dog who gobbles everything up, it takes up to about two weeks to train to free feed. What you do is you fill the bowl, let them eat it, every time you pass the bowl add more food. It doesn’t matter. If they throw up it doesn’t matter if they constantly keep gobbling it every single time even if the bowl is full, put a few pieces of food in the bowl, within the two weeks they will end up walking by the bowl and be completely disinterested because you have removed the fear of not having food. They no longer associate the bowl as something that might not provide. A snuffle mat is great for dry food, it provides nibbles and mental stimulation. Just google snuffle mats for dogs. You can do wet food on a schedule but find a dry food or freeze dried food if you don’t like kibble. I use 100% freeze dried beef or chicken. I know this works because I used this method with many rescues I took in to foster before they got adopted. Beef cheek chews or not rawhide No Hide chews are safe, healthy and also help with anxiety while you are away, so another way of helping your dog not over eat. So many say, my dog will never stop over eating, well that is only true if their owner can’t take real advice.

My dog hates his crate. He's a medium sized dog with a large crate. It took one night for me to see it wasn't going to work. He stood the whole time!
He usually does his protest bark when I leave the house, and especially when he has to stay in the car while I run into the store for a few minutes. Fortunately, there's no destruction, I make sure he's had a potty break, and make sure he's calm before I leave, always saying "I'll be back". The protest bark has significantly lessened over the past year since he's been with me. I leave the tv on Hallmark channel or on relaxing music.
If I have to leave him home for more than a couple of hours, I take him to daycare. In fact, I make my appointments around his weekly visit. When he goes to daycare, he's kept in a 4x6 kennel, and he's ok with that... because he's not alone. He absolutely loves going to daycare!
If I plan to go out without him, I don't dare let him see me use mouthwash. The minute he sees that, he goes nuts because he knows I do that last thing before going out. 🤣 It's quite comical to see his reaction. He jumps all over me with excitement, and whines, like "take me with you", so now it's become his signal we're going somewhere like the park. 😂

    • @imnotmike
      @imnotmike Месяц назад

Well that's because you're not supposed to just stuff your dog in a crate and make them spend all their time in there. Of course they'll hate the crate if you use it as a cage.
The crate is supposed to be their den. Think of it as their bedroom. It's their space, where they can go when they're upset. If you're mad at them, it should be a natural reaction to go in their crate until you've calmed down. That means they feel safe in their crate. And it should be their safe space. No punishments while they're in their crate. You probably shouldn't be punishing your dog anyway, so if they go in the crate, that's your signal that you probably need to calm down before you interact with them again.
Dogs will have a natural instinct to spend most of their time in a small enclosed space with a single entrance that they can easily defend. So they will go in their crate all on their own if you just leave the crate around and don't try to force them into it.
Unless there's a specific reason to make them stay in the crate for a period of time, they should be free to come and go when they want. You should reward them for going in the crate when you tell them to, and don't make them stay in the crate for more than a few minutes unless it's absolutely necessary. And if you do need them to stay in the crate, give them plenty of treats and toys and rewards, so that they associate those positive things with their crate and don't get bored in there with nothing to do.
If you stuff your dog in a crate and then leave them there for 8 hours with nothing to do every time you put them into the crate, then it's a prison, and nobody wants to spend time in a prison.
My dogs will go in their crate if I tell them to, or on their own whenever they're feeling nervous about something. If I send them to their crate, they'll usually stay in the crate with the door open until I give them permission to come out. They'll typically stay in there for up to an hour or so before they wander out on their own. If they're being particularly problematic, such as barking menacingly at a house guest, I might tell them to go to their crate and then lock the door until the person leaves or until the dog has calmed down.
On very rare occasions when there is a medical reason I don't want them roaming the house, such as when my female is in heat, I'll put them in their crate while I'm gone for up to 4 hours or so. But I wouldn't do that regularly.
If you use the crate properly, it will help your dog to feel more comfortable and prevent behavioral problems, because if they feel nervous, rather than ripping up the cushions on your sofa, they'll just go hide in their crate where they feel safe until they calm down. Dogs often destroy things when they feel nervous. But if they have a safe space they can go to, they'll just go hide in there instead.

Luckily I have a job where I only have to work three days in the office. Those three days are tough however as I have to leave my dog alone in the house for that time. Here is what I do and it seems to work for him. 1- I take him for a good walk before I go to work, ALWAYS. 2 - I never make a big deal as I do not want him to see that it is a big deal. 3- I have DogTV on for him when I am away. This keeps him relaxed ruclips.net/video/HrxYSNuw2lo/видео.html&ab_channel=TVForDogs
4 - All his toys are out for him to play with if he gets bored.
