My dog kept going in and sleeping with my roommate and would lay up against his lower back all the time, he was recently diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure. Now that my roommate is doing better, change of diet and not drinking alcohol, my dog now sleeps with me again.
At one point, i had a 80 lbs and 3 dogs that were about 45 lbs dogs and struggled with sleeping on a twin size bed, with all of them, but we made it work. So cute
I used to think this too. A pack of wolves has a hierarchy and is very exclusive. The pack mentality is what makes wolves predatory. Dogs, on the other hand, have a social mentality. They love their families, but unless they're neglected/abused, they're open and welcoming by nature. Wild animal pack is a complex mindset, but our domesticated dogs are much more simple.
I've had many dogs over the years, but most recently I had a Peke who would start out pressed against my back, under the covers, but would get too warm and would climb up on the pillow next to me. Her brother always had to be under the covers, right in the small of my back. Sadly they have both crossed the Rainbow Bridge, and my current pup likes to sleep on top of the covers, pressed up against my back.
My girl is perfect!Yes she sleeps with me! I picked her at 3 weeks. All puppies were in a pile and she was up and yapping. I knew she was saying I'M HERE DARN IT! I brought her home at 5 weeks. She will be 4 years October 7 2024. I had a heart attack in March and couldn't wait to get home with her. She has my ❤️ I worry about passing and leaving her . NO ONE ELSE KNOWS THE ROUTINE LIKE WE DO! 😢
As a kid my dog would shove himself against my back and if I moved unconsciously, I'd naturally move away from him at which point he'd shove over against my back again. This would go on till I fell off the bed 🙂
My Shiba has his own crate that he enjoys sleeping in, but he loves to jump on my bed and sleep with me. He likes to sleep pressed against by back, or curled like a fox, with his tail covering his face, :)
My lab always sleeps in my bed. She sleeps with her bum facing me. We just went away for a few days. She wasn't allowed on the bed where we stayed, so me and my husband took it in turns to sleep with her in the living room of the property. When we got home, she licked me madly, obviously happy to be home, and then straight to our bed.
@laneysmith My precious lab - RIP, sweet Abby - would get in bed with me at the foot of the bed, facing me - I would then spend a couple of hours reading, watching tv, etc. & when I was ready to go to sleep, I would say “it’s sleepy time, big girl” & she would stand up, turn around a couple of times & then lay like you said yours did, facing away from me - she did the same thing every night - some nights, if I woke up during the night & was looking at my iPad, I would see her look over her shoulder to make sure I was still there - she was the dog of my heart - she’s been gone over 5 years now & I still have a huge hole in my heart
I'M KINDA GLAD THAT OUR DOGS DON'T SLEEP WITH ME. I HAVE A TWIN BED, AND IT WOULD BE KINDA CRAMPED IF OUR DOGS SLEPT WITH ME. THIS IS IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE WHEN I TRY TO TYPE REGULAR, I SEEM TO ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE CAPS BUTTON, SO NOW I CAN JUST MAKE IT ALL CAPS AND DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CORRECTING HITTING THE DAMN CAPS BUTTON.
Our dog loves cuddles x He wouldn't leave my husband alone, puttinghis head on his back..looking at him constantly.... turns out hubby has stage 4 cancer
Iv had rottweilers for 13 yrs now and my 13 yr old and my first rotty got cancer and I had to put her to sleep but she went in her spot on the sofa with her head in my lap and my male has just turned 7 and we got another female rott 8 wk old pup she is 16 wks old now and has just started sleeping in bed with us and she snuggles up and lays her head under my chin and sleeps with her head on me somewhere and my male lays against my legs
One time my boyfriend & I were at his brother’s & it got to be our Lab, Abby’s dinner time - 5:30 - and she started nudging our hands with her nose - my boyfriend said, ok, we gotta go - it’s time for Abby’s dinner & his brother said “oh, now you have to go home when the dog says it’s time to go?” My boyfriend just said “yep, later” & out the door we went - Sadly, they are both gone now, but the memories will stay in my heart until I hopefully see them again some day
We had one pup who slept between our headboard and my pillow. At that time, we also had 3 other dogs who slept on our bedas well! Yes, it was an extended mattress, King size bed. We still have it and 3 new pups.
I sleep better when they are next to me! Sometimes my older pup will lay on the floor to feel cooler in summer. He will always come back later in the night to the bed. ❤❤
Puppies tend to crawl up to your head and sleep as close to your hair as possible. Think it reminds them of their mother. We used to have outside dogs untill I got Sebastian the Basset. He howled at the gate every night and after neighbours complained all the dogs moved into the house and onto the bed except for Cleo my Cane Corso. So two humans, three dogs on the bed one huge dog on her bed on the floor. Unfortunately that pack all past, but I have two Africanus rescues. They alternate between their beds and my bed. I often wake up in the morning with a fairly large dog on each side of me. They keep me warm and safe. No ticks, fleas or worms, muddy feet at times. Will not change this for anything. Nothing like a dog hug and cuddles in the morning.
Never had a dog that did not sleep in bed, and we rescue animals, have for years. They all have the run of the house, and we encourage them to get overly excited and jump up on you to greet you! :)
My dog is in bed with me now 🤣 but she’s so smart. She knows what I’m saying when she gets my attention. She get my attention, wants me to follow her, and will tell me what she wants by “pointing” it’s so cute
My dog likes to sleep near my knees with his butt against me . However that puts him directly under the AC/heating vent. The other one comes and goes but wants to have his back against me near my head unless he gets too hot.
What about position in the environment. Who's nearest entryways or food etc. I live with 9 dogs, multigenerational, I think it's more relevant for ordinary owners to consider.
I dont like my dogs in my bed, never have. My Heelers steal my socks, slippers and one quietly curls up at the bottom of my bed i hardly notice. Yes he is a velcrove dog. As a puppy he was hit by a car and it traumatized him. His brother is not velcrove.
My dog used to sleep quite happily in her cage at night as a puppy. Then she broke her leg and I had her on the bed so I would know when she needed outside to pee. She hasn’t got off since 😂 But she has her own bed on top of my bed
That pup in my avatar picture, Nikola, laid across my chest when I came back from chemotherapy. He definitely knew something was wrong with me and was trying to comfort me. 💚💚🐕🦺🐕🦺❣️❣️
No way dogs on/in the bed. They can sleep on their nice orthopedic dog be in the room though. And if it’s cold they get a blanket🙄. So funny. 30 years ago, my dogs slept outside in their doghouse.
got 5 dogs(1 boerboel, 2 german sheps, 1 male aussie ...and the only female..also an aussie)... + insomnia .... so when i sleep its a meat pile ...... but you forgot 1 way dogs sleep ... "on their backs"

Dogs are "PACK" animals. We are part of their pack. That is why they want to be around us all the time.

My current dog sleeps with me more and in way differently than any of the dogs I've had thus far.❤
My pup loves going under the covers in the winter. And after his bath 😅 ❤❤❤

My chinese crest does the same.
@@barbferris6447 OMG!🤦♂️
MY Chinese Crested "Junior" also does this same exact thing numerous times a night 🛌«🐶💕 (EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!!!)
😂
My dog claimed my bed when I got her home the first time 1yr ago 🤣 I basically sleep in the dog bed. But get cuddles every night so it's worth it 🤭
sounds familiar
haha!

My dog actually has a better mattress than I do.

Yes all six. But I have tried to sleep elsewhere and They just follow me. Haven't slept well for 50 years

How about they love us and they are pack animals period and the love comfort..this is silly
Would never have dog in my bed not even cat. It’s unhygienic, beds are for humans.
