This video is about How to gas rate using a SMETS2 smart meter that is similar to an E6 Electronic meter. This meter is a Landis and Gyr SMETS2 smart meter as used by British Gas.
Thanks mate, it’s a shame EON aren’t able to produce something so professional and helpful!
Hi, glad to have at least 1 person. JK
Very good and thank you for your explanation
But you didnt put the decimal point before the digits you entered in the gas rate calculator because all the digits displayed on the meter where after the decimal point.
Best to keep things simple for now.
If the Gas Rate Calculator is not working for any reason, please let us know.
we have a bit diffeent style gas meter and got it setup today but it only reads the electiricty and gas does not show up anywhere
I have this meter but for some reason it’s not paired with in home smart meter device. The British Gas one. How can I pair it ?
Hi, you will need British Gas to take you through the pairing sequence if it's lost it, otherwise likely an engineer visit required.
Can you do one on The landis Electric smart meter
We are mostly to do with gas, however if we come across one, we will a quick video as requested.
Hi, I have this smart meter for gas (installed 1.5 years ago). When I press the red button the display remains blank, no data showing. There is no data for gas usage on my account and when I contact my supplier they say they have not received any readings from the meter. What needs to be done to fix this please? Any ideas? Does it need a new battery? How do I get a meter reading so my bills are an accurate reflection of my usage. Thanks
Hi, you will need to report this to your energy supplier as a fault. As it is a critical gas equipment, we cannot make any suggestions for repairs as such. JK
Thanks for your reply
I’ve reported it to my supplier and they will arrange someone to come and replace it. Do you know if there is a way for them to calculate my usage for the time period the meter hasn’t been working? I’ve been trying to use minimal gas for several months, to save money… which now seems pointless if there is no evidence of my usage!
Hi, if it’s a smart meter then yes maybe, otherwise no. They are likely to estimate it. You would need to ask them to be sure or just let them come back to you first. Theres every chance you could end up with free gas. JK
Does this have a card or a key to top up
Hi, this version does not. Jay K
What does the update button do? Does it send the reading to the energy supplier?
It’s used to update the reading on the display and for other functions. If you have a new smart meter version, then it sends data every 30 mins by itself. JK
@@MyBoiler thanks for reply, I guess button A is the only one you really need to get your reading on a standard digital meter.
You need button A to cycle through the different readings, then button B to update some of the readings. JK
If you pay by DD/get a bill in the post etc, simply press button A once to wake meter up. Once meter is awake the reading will be displayed. If a prepayment meter then press button A to cycle to screen headed meter index.this is your read. I am a meter reader. Please note that although the meter sends an updated reading every 30 mins, we are still required to inspect the installation every 2 years (or attempt to inspect). This is to ensure the meter is working correctly - our reading is timed so they can check that the meter read and the read they are receiving match - check that the ECV (emergency control valve) is present on gas meters (I have found them missing or bypassed), visually inspect electrical cables and equipment for any sign of damage/tampering (damage to cables is more common on meters located in cupboards and in garages where they are more likely to be bashed). We are also looking for gas leaks (we find these more often than you might realise. Highly common on external meter boxes. The smell builds up inside the cabinet and we only discover it when we open the door. When was the last time you opened your meter box?). So please, the next time a meter reader knocks your door, don't turn them away simply because you have a SMART meter. Reading the meter is a secondary role. The meter readers primary function is always the safety of the equipment, but remember, although meter readers are trained in how to visually inspect the equipment, you should always have a regular inspection from a qualified engineer (I am a qualified electrician but the checks I carry out on behalf of the energy companies to fulfil their legal obligations are nowhere near the standard of the checks I would do if conducting a full safety inspection. The energy companies just need to be sure that their equipment is not going to cause harm, anything after that, so from boiler, consumer unit etc is the householders responsibility and the energy companies have no liability at that point)
Hi Timothy, Thanks for your information. Great to see community powered information. JK
I’m being told i need to open my valves by pressing and holding the red button but nothing happens, haven’t had gas and hot water for 4 days now
Are you on a prepayment top up meter or a postpayment pay by bills meter?
@@MyBoiler The app saids pay as you go, prepay not available
@@harrynelson9203 Make sure your gas lever ie like the red lever in the video is completely parallel with the pipe ie open. Then maybe use manual top-up of meter using the following article myboiler.com/gas-meter-top-up/, if none of this helps, you may have a faulty meter or something else which may require a service visit from either the energy company or an independent gas engineer qualified to work on meters.
@@MyBoiler Someone on the phone earlier did tell me about the lever but i couldn’t see one, just straight pipes going into the meter it self, i have been on the phone all day and someone is coming round by 5PM today, so hopefully it’s a quick fix, just a shame they couldn’t of came round earlier over the weekend
That seems strange there is no lever, maybe located elsewhere. Let us know the outcome of your problem. Fingers crossed engineer is able to resolve it for you.
I've just added nearly £60 of Credit after my credit ran out. I've manually load the UTRN number, the credit has been accepted but when I push the B button to reconnect the supply it says 'unable to open, try again in 2 minutes' I cannot proceed further and the Gas is shut off
It's been giving me this message since last night
Has a gas engineer attended the property at any time prior to this? JK
@MyBoiler thanks for getting back to me. No, everything was working great up until last night. Rather surprisingly the meter has just started working again and Gas is finally back on!
Possible moisture in the gas line, that froze the valve seating. Maybe get the gas supplier to check the line or the meter if it happens again. JK
@@MyBoiler thanks, will do!
Anyone thinking of getting these meters I would suggest forget it I had mine replaced this summer and it was done bye British Gas and ever since they didn’t send me a statement I had to sit for ages on the web chat asking why they said it was under review eventually after keep on chasing them I got something back and they said it wouldn’t happen again next month came same thing happened no statement as I’m running in £600 in credit with the old meters it was much easier you sent your reading they gave you a bill within hours
And where is the meter reading for example, for final bill
Follow the video, that’s reading shown that you need for the final bill. JK
I just moved to a new house and OVO told me to submit the readings for gas and electricity but Ive never done it before. I have that same display, the smets2. Does it show readings only for gas or also for electricity??? I dont really understands how it works... :(
Hi,
This one will show you how to read the gas. You only need one reading though, not two. See the article link for more info
JK
But Im paying gas and electricity both to OVO, and when I go to the website where they ask me to submit the readings there is one space to type the electricity numbers and other for the gas... thats why it is confusing for me. I read the article and its well explained how to get the last reading. So I only have to submit the gas one??
I have the smets2 (the same that shows in the video) inside the house... and outside there is another meter reading that I thought it could be for the electricity but im not sure. Thanks for your answer 👍🏼👍🏼
@@carlbjorling6058 Hi Carl, If they ask you for both, you need to submit both. What I meant to say was, that the video only shows you how to get a reading from the gas meter. For the electric reading, you will need to find a video that shows you how to obtain the electric reading or alternatively ask OVO how you can get this reading. If you have a smart display, you can get both reading from the display also. Hope that helps. JK
@@MyBoileryes I have the same meter and electric one is separate
Does this work for other appliances like gas rating a cooker or a gas hob?
Hi, yes that is what this video is really for. Gas rating appliances. See the link to our gas rates calculator for more help on this, myboiler.com/calculators/gas-rate-calculator/?source=ytc JK
Hi mate, thanks for the video. My reading was 02424.344m3. Seems high compared to yours even though I rarely use the gas?
Hi, that’s because the video was done right after the meter was newly installed. JK
@@MyBoiler thanks mate, that’s what I thought. Great video.
Hi i need help..pleas ..im top up a code i see the money on the sreec..i press B for gas but show mi..enable pin, viewv event log, mesage chek, end i end atill write press B for gas..?pleas help mi
Hi, follow the instructions here on this page: myboiler.com/gas-meter-top-up/ JK
Hi i have same issue.asking pin .how did you fixed your 1?
They've installed it for me today...now I might sound really blonde right now but where do you put the card in in this thing?
Hi Jessica, if you have this exact version then this one is post pay meter ie you get billed monthly or quarterly. If you have a similar version with a card slot , or a keyfob of some sort then only you can put the card in. Do you have this exact version, or is it slightly different?
Jayesh K. (MyBoiler Ltd)
@@MyBoiler how do I activate card
I have this exact one but there is no slot to insert card and it's a prepaid meter
Which energy company are you with?
Here’s how to manually top up your gas using your meter:
Press button A to wake the screen then press it twice to get to Credit Entry
Press button B, then A to enter code and B to move forward
Press and hold button B to submit
When I have this reading just can use British gas?
Hi Alberto, can you please clarify your question further. Thanks.
How do you top it up?!?
Hi Ian, there is a link in the description showing how to top up. JK
@@MyBoiler I topped up online but isn’t showing on little screen
Might take a while, sometimes upto 30 mins, as some meters talk back to the servers every 30 mins. If still hasn't updated, contact the supplier. Jk
@@MyBoiler it’s been 2 hours still nothing, thing doesn’t even have a card slot
Try a manual top up. myboiler.com/gas-meter-top-up/ JK
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP
Hi Linda, what seems to be the problem?
Mine is showing call help. Any advice please? I top up twice and cant do anything just showing call help. Is Easter holiday so can't contact them.
Hi, if the following page myboiler.com/gas-meter-top-up/?source=ytc does not help, then you are left with little choice but to wait for customer services to open up, or possibly dial the emergency gas grid helpline. JK
