It's most significant to use the attached shield as it prohibits water from drowning the solenoid, thus fouling up the vacuum pressure. Very important here...
The reason the new solenoid comes mounted to a new bracket is because it is a water shield. It deflects the water coming from the cowl. Water is a leading cause of failure to the solenoid. There is a Ford service bulletin on this repair.
Very educational I didn’t know where the thing was located was originally why I looked this up going to try to do it and I’ll leave you a comment how it goes it’s amazing what we can learn off the phone at this point I knew about the water issue read about that a while back I want to see if the issue was the solenoid or hub on my left side keeps locking up on me probably as the hub but the solenoid doesn’t cost that much money so just do both and be done with it at this point looking to replace the truck anyway Thank you for the info
Any idea how to get a EPC sensor out of the transmission without removing the valve body; out of 2004 Ford expedition with a 5.4 Eddie Bauer with 4x4. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Mines you have to put it on Neutral the push foot on brake while turning on and off 4x4 and back on drive and my truck drives fine, rpms drop. But sometimes it sounds like a loud fan noise or 4x4 on.. from 0-30mph then it drives normal from there.. I cleaned the mass flow sensor, and throttle body it made a difference. But still does it. Thinking about spark plugs and change of transmission fluid.. but I think this might be something else..
Thanks for the info. My 2006 will engage in 4 wheel drive but will not go into 4 wheel drive. Which solenoid is defective. How to locate and replace this solenoid. Thanks
I have 2014 ford expedition 4×4 5.4 I have grinding sound from the driver side and I already replaced the vacuum hoses but sound still and Iam thinking to replace the solenoid. Is that will work 🤔?
Did not get a code but dash showed 4 Low… found the solenoid whacked it gently a few times- shut engine off- then on- same 4 low- did it again- sit off - wait 30 sec- turn on went back to 2nd!
@dr.mhorse356 I have 2008 f150 when I put it in 4x4 high light never came on. So not sure it engaged or not. When I got home I turned truck off than back on light came on then went off please help have blizzard warning.
@Kenneth Williams 1)Check the fuses passenger kicker panel 2)Might actuater its by firewall under hood passenger side 3) on my truck I put it in 4x4 and it sounds like the wheel bearings ain't catching to spin front tires, I read water/ice disable it. GD LUCK

Yes the updated version of the solenoid comes with the rain shield.
That new part shroud is there for a reason to keep water from dripping on it and failing again

Have you ever replaced the hoses that connect near the back side of the engine and the 4x4 solenoid I believe they are the IEM hoses?
By any chance you think this it’s the problem why my 4high it’s not engaging but the 4x4 is

Is there a place to get replacement airlines ?As mine are severed or broken on the driver side
Wait so this is part of the solenoid a p0750 code I'm getting? Causing the transmission fluid not to flow properly?
How about a part number for the replacement part??
My 04 f150 only works in low 4x4, what part do I need ? help
Will this be the same for a 2004 navigator?

Will not work in high.
Most likely the 'motor' down on the XFER case. Still you should diagnose it, not just swap parts.
I need help for my own

Probably already fixed it , but you possibly needed to change the hub due to wear

it goes to a nipple on the back of the intake.
