- Filmed in the Academy Theatre, Dublin, Ireland 2002/3 By Baz Rycraft. It was just when they were starting to get big and their record label asked me to film them for some promo material for their Re-Foc Album. I used three cameras. A Sony Broadcast camera Wide, a Canon Broadcast camera Med and a sony camcorder for the close ups. I decided to leave in the bit at the start when they tune up, simply because I found it interesting.
So amazing and such fun to watch!!!!
These two have the most amazing chemistry!
MERCILESSNESS in it's highest Degree!!!
This takes me there and back. I am green and golden {Paul Galico). Kudos!
Purée elle envoie, elle est merveilleuse 🤩

Away way out version
chika chuka bonk bink ? what the hell was that supposed to be ?
wow I love it :D but whats this song at a beginning? Before take five?
thanks! it's a song called Diem. it's on their first album Re Foc. 2003.
theres a video of it on my channel
I’m sitting here just seven miles from where Dave Brubeck was born and grew up. This is not very relaxing music. It’s not bad enough to get a thumbs down, but not good enough for a thumbs up either. Very skilled guitar artists.
Pish! This is the guitar equivalent of watching paint dry.
LOUD LAUGHING from Australia
I cant talk! 😗
Con aire de flamenco
Too bad the sound is out of sync with the film...
Wow - Dave Brubeck would have loved this.
Bravo!!!
Sorry, no sound.
This is an up tempo flamenco version of Take Five.....played in 5/4 time impeccably. Just count 123 12 123 12. The melody was stated and the bridge was played all in time as on the record but adapted for the acoustic guitars and played in the Key of E minor instead of the original Key of Eb minor for sax in which it was originally composed. There is a lot of rhythmic play simply because the original was famous for having had an extended drum solo in it and it FEATURED the drums so they are paying homage to that part of the hit song. Please do your homework before you criticize a song such as this and understand what it is all about. Otherwise, you appear quite foolish in your uneducated criticisms of people reinterpreting a well known and historic piece of music such as this.
This has nothing to do with Flamenco. Flamenco is a very structured musical genre and each form, within the genre, has its own rules or discipline which must be observed and respected. The piece in question, is more of a circus act than anything else with respect to the instruments or musical bent.
The lady guitarist has legs
@Mark Lis its conceal from gazing/ roving eyes maybe thats we miss it.
@Mark Lissorry am not into blokes, with/without legs
Mark Lis Jaaaaaa!
@Mark Lis if the heart open up to such a lady..sure..y not
@@rodolfo9215 yes he's a leg nazi
we can be like this but u don't play guitar
The tuning could have been cut (new strings lose pitch really quick). This shows some of the magic nylon strings can deliver. They take a 50 year old jazz classic and merge it with metal and nylon. I love it (ymmv).
Btw Gabi is hot.
вышли гитары падубасили и ушли))
What are they trying to do ?...play something ?
... never heard 'Take Five' then, or do you just not like an original approach?
Obrigados...
Great...until the playing stopped & the tapping started. :(
13 names lol. It's a morello quote at least at the beginning and its spot on.
Wicked!!!
thought that was a popular jazz song
it is, but it's not being played at its normal tempo after tune up
do you by any chance know the name of the original songs
Couldn't they get their roadies to tune them up beforehand???
Not for me, perhaps you had to be there
Bonjour
Vous jouez avec la guitare c’est tout. !
Pardon mais la musique c’est autre chose
Respect tout de même
Sans rancune
Nice legs
It is no doubt that they are very skillful in playing guitar. But it is just an ACT!
sound good. DiMeola wannabe!.
Critics of this don't seem to have noticed the purpose of the shoot.
it was only a good flamenco, not Brubeck take five...
flamenco in 5/4 ?
It’s take five, and it swings, well gets my feet tapping.
Lots of guitar drumming, very little guitar playing.
Exactly! That's what I was thinking
I think simply that you don’t understand the genre.
richtfingers they haven’t listened to Dave Brubaker, these weird rhythms needs to be beaten by a drum. They do a marvellous job together!!
Mark Lis the problem with this is that the piece is famous because of the way it was played on the saxophone- that paved the way for complex passes of rhythm passed in the phrases of the saxophones. I have played percussion on this with saxophones - they are great on the guitars, but it’s different.
Rodolfo p
pues si no son carreritas 🙄😑😒
Too fast! Kind of destroys brubeck's masterpiece IMHO
it's supposed to be played fast. Castilian drums was what take 5 should have been.
Confirms my opinion of this duo being two of the most over rated musicians. except for the intro, and and part of the end, I can't tell what they were playing. Take Five was named because of the 5/4 time signature, I could not tell you what timing they were using.
Steve Cardenaz They're using 5/4, its just a faster tempo... You should really dig in more of their stuff. Trust me, you won't regret it
Another variation leads to a new interpretation... 😉
It's all music, with all it's various styles and meanings, free and better than politics... 😎
It's clearly 5/4
@@ccshumshum8104 My point is they are terrible.
Here's the formula: play two notes over and over, hammer my guitar like a bongo drum, make weird sounds with my guitar, all the while hiding the fact that no real music is happening. Success!!!! The audience goes nuts!
+1
I would agree with you he gets out of a lot of genuine solo work here by doing that ,listen to George Bensons version for a comparison.he is still a very good guitarist though, and she holds it all together very well
Kyle Smith that's it, exactly. I cannot imagine anything worse ! Only those who have never heard Take Five before can like such a shit !
I’ve enjoyed Paul Desmond’s Take Five since Brubeck released his iconic version in 1959. I still enjoy it. But I also enjoyed this version, because these two have a different take on so many well known standards. They make me want to listen. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.
Kyle Smith you have no idea of what being a musician is. Hence the fact that these two are world famous and you are more than likely sitting in your parent's basement ridiculing people here...go back to playing World of Warcraft.
카메라 워크 정말 개판~
더블린이면 아일랜드 더블린인지?
캘리포니아 더블린인지?
Too fast and meaningless interpretation.
You're telling me Big Narstie has no talent?
No, I didn't tell this. I talked about the tempo of his performing. It is gratuitously fast. This song is more sophisticated than this speed.
Speed is important in the sick bars of Big Narstie. I find that this hurts me emotionally
que d'effets faciles, raccoleurs et inutiles, on se demande ou est passé TAKE FIVE !!! Mais ce public aime les effets.
only noise!
Agree. Perhaps the guy from Los Panchos trio is still the best until today (R.I.P. I don't know his name).
professional musicians tune their guitars before they come on stage, top pros have techs to do it for them...
IKR? how lame
When you go on stage the temp changes as you are closer to the audience, lighting etc. Thin bodied flamenco guitars and nylon strings all move and swell so you need to tune just before you play. also playing heavy as these two do detunes guitars between songs. How many large live flamenco concerts have you played? Your comment is very amateur.
and you sound like crap. period. end. no more to say. hello?
silence...
Bogus. They don't have a whole lootta love....or talent????
Wtf
This may be my least favorite RnG recording
selten so eine scheisse gehört, eine der schlechtesten fassungen dieses titels
Awful. I mostly like R&G but why on earth would you take a classic jazz composition and turn it into a flamenco dog´s dinner? Stick with your own compositions please. If you like this then please listen to the original recording.
Casa0a
Mal, muy mal.
Frustrated percussionists in action
Ja!
...yesss
Segovia valued the fact that the guitar could be used to imitate other instruments - this includes percussion.
@@psalmblues Qué otro instrumento puede emular?
psalmblues There are many examples of percussion on guitar that I find interesting and good taste, in flamenco it is usual. But when the resource is used constantly it stops being nice and that's when you have to leave the guitar and look for a drum.
José Fernandes / Audiocaracas I agree.
they never impressed me....more like showing off and teathrical thing than music, percussive sounds ,but creation not really.I don´t know why al di meola invited them to play with him.he was probably drunk when he agreed.there are more creative and ridiculously great guitarrists like marco porcu from italy or any flamenco player in spain
su re
Probably Al Di Meola knows nothing about guitar playing. And since when it's a competition to only show"the best"? Ridiculous argument, your knowledge of rhythm, harmony and melody must be as good as your guitar playing. Nice try...
@@LFernandoG well yes not that bad.been playing for 27 years professionally.have toured the us with my ny unknown bands.play flamenco and jazz mostly.got all the arguments to say what I say.believe me...and check out these fellas I am telling you about.I am not saying they are bad.they just play above the average but to fill coliseums around the world....I don't know then it is when I disagree
@@newbbietrader9918 fair enough. I played "professionally" for a few years, mostly Latin jazz. I agree that a big part of their charm is the percussive use of the guitar, and the way they compliment each other. And yes, there are more talented guitarists out there, many more, but as a musician you understand how hard it is to grind everyday to get a gig. Good on them, hope you are still enjoying playing, and did not meant to disrespect you.
@@LFernandoG great appreciation! and yes!,no reason to do that!,here we are to enjoy any kind of music and talent!!keep it up as well, best to you!
Congrats! You have massacred a classic.
I just don't get this interpretation. Herky jerky flamingo. Give me Chet Atkin's version any day. This lacks class, IMHO.
I did not like this interpretation. Upvoted for talent and style, meh on the timing.
Frankly, they wrecked a great classical tune; too "gypsy" for my taste. I still prefer the original Dave Brubeck Quartet's version, featuring a piano, saxophone, bass and drums.
Maybe something to do with the audience dynamic in this session. Trying to be clever and out of the orginal's scope.
No one gives a shit about what you think, Pablo. Go out and create something instead of ripping on talented artists.
agiantman Oh yeah? Be happy then. Because I don't give a rat's ass what you think. Keep your shit to butter your bread!
You'll never understand a gipsy soul and their way they play guitar... 💗...Romale forever and ever!...
Wolfgang Nitsch Yep! You're right, I don't understand them. Gipsy art, like the one you can hear in Andalucia, Spain, is beyond my understanding. I never have caught its taste.
