Nationals Senator defends need for prime ministers to go on holidays

- Nationals Senator Matt Canavan has defended the need for prime ministers to take a break from politics and go on holidays with their families.
Scott Morrison was heavily criticised for holidaying in Hawaii during the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires.
Mr Canavan said the backlash the former prime minister faced after being forced to leave his vacation was “distasteful”.
“I think we need to normalise the ability of prime ministers to have a holiday with their family,” Mr Canavan told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“Sure, go after people on their policies, you disagree on how the country should be run, but for God’s sake, let someone have a holiday with their family.”
I wish Albo would go on holidays permanently, and never come back.
Hopefully a permanent holiday. Give him a one-way ticket to Gazza. He has lots of supporters there.
No politician should get their holiday entitlement until the country is in surplus and running well.
Maybe even put it to a public vote and if they're dissatisfied then the government still have work to do.

I think S, Morrison did a good job with everything he had to deal with. Everyone including my daughter got on his case for not coming back because of the fires straight away, but he is not a firefighter so what was he to do piss on it? Let's not be ignorant, he has more than one phone and was in contact at all times during the fires. I'm an ex-nurse and can say if you can't help in a situation then stay away. I challenge anyone to do the job he did, I wouldn't want it for the world and he was a far better PM than the fool we have now.
I agree. All Albo wanted to do while opposition leader was waste time with everything from wanting more vaccs and jobkeeper and jobseeker extended ,to sacking Christian porter and using Britney Higgins sex scandal to go after Scott Morrison , but he won't sack Giles and O'Neil for their screw ups .
If your country is in trouble, which we were, you need to be seen in your country, even if you don:t hold a hose. People don't want to see their leader lying on a beach in a foreign country. It is that simple.

@@peterremkes9376 He went to Hawaii before the fires started . Also he loaned his private residence to a family who were victims of the Lismore flood but you never see that being mentioned . Albo doesn't hold a candle to Scott Morrison .

Why on earth would you want to go back to this one Matt Canavan. Of course even our PM's have a right and need to take a holiday, just like anybody else. However, by Morrison's own admission, the timing of this Hawaiian holiday was way off. When the country is in trouble, which was the case with all the fires guess what, do you think people will want to see their leader lazing about on a beach while people are dying here. Of course not, we want to see our leader supporting us. He doesn't hold a hose, fine. There are other ways to help. Lying on a beach is not.

But not during a national crisis and if a crisis arises during a holiday they should return home immediately, you would if it was your own business so i think running the country justifies it

My eldest is 23 and we have had one 2 week camping trip in that time. All i do is work and pay rent and bills, my family has never been anywhere. Nobody gives a shit about them, so why should i give a shit about a bloke whos getting rich screwing over his own country?
