    You're living in one of the most beautiful tourist islands in the world, in your own home, and with your big happy family. You're not there like a tourist on an extended vacation but since you are retired and don't have to go to work or be somewhere everyday, then you'll truly enjoy and make the most of your permanent vacation this time because you're on a new and different location that's has a different community, topography, and vibe, and it's a vacation island.
    I can see real excitement on your face besides the more joyful mood, and I'm honestly just so happy for you. IMHO, you really are living the dream retirement.

    You have the right personality and perspective on life to succeed there. Not to mention a pretty great wife. I'm not as remote as you, but my little slice of heaven suits me fine. Last census our village has 500 houses and 1400 residents, and I get along just fine. It's all in the attitude, you either fit in or you get out.
    Happily my reputation in the village is the guy who's always smiling and kind to the neighbors. I'm happier and healthier here than I've been in years, and slowly getting my weight down. Bless you and your family, please put Lots channel in the description so I can follow her as well.

    I think you made the right choice. I live rural on mountain east of CDO. Only issue is local pharmacy not stocking my bp meds and insulin so I drive to
    BALINGASAG once a month. Good clinics near as well as a private small hospital. We added on to existing house. I put in running water. Done pretty much as you did. Wouldn't change a thing. 😊
    I too have Starlink and stream philly on my 55 in Samsung. Starlink is the answer to province life.

    Great video, my wife and I kind of did the same thing two years ago we built a house 80 km south of Manila. For a while, we were happy but now we just miss everything that we had at such a convenience in the city. This will be our last holidays here and then we are going to move back to Manila, we just put our house on the market. I think whatever makes you and your wife happy is the most important family as always first.

    I rarely watch videos in the Philippines since I'm quite familiar and comment on those even less. However, I have always watched yours because one reason. Complete and total honesty. You don't feed viewers a bunch of crap and blow smoke up the wazoo. I know what you do is not easy and it's time consuming to say the least, but I for appreciate all your efforts and candidness. Best of luck and please keep up with the great videos.

    Thanks to a wise diabetes doctor in Bacolod, I changed the way I was treating my diabetes. This doctor told me I was taking too much medicine. She cut my daily insulin amount to less than a half of what my American doctor had prescribed. Plus I went from 20 pills a day to 3. My daily sugar levels are now fantastic (~90 to 150).
    My limited impression is that American doctors want to drug you up because we have money to spend from our insurance plans while the Filipino doctors want to just help where needed because their patients usually have very limited budgets.
    I feel better than I have in twenty years, (I am 60.) I am keeping up with my much younger Filipina wife. Less is more. God bless the Philippines.

      In Phillys older videos for example, he was looking for a temp gauge for his oven. Now they use an open fire. I think Phillys TV, washing machine, stove wont get used much. His Western habits are slowly leaving.😊

    The one thing that I didn't like about communal living in a place where I was the odd man out is that I wasn't the king of my castle. I like most mature men like being in control of my surroundings, and you will find that when it comes to family issues, just how much of the family you really are . When you were in Angeles City, you were the king of the house and made the major decisions. Also, when it comes to paying the bills, as you are the one with the pension, you get the pleasure of paying them. You're building a house, and there are certain things that you expect, but you might be mistaken, so just kind of watch and see how things go . I know that you just didn't fall off the coconut truck and probably are way ahead of me, but I am just sharing my observations, and it's my experience.

    Awesome brian, glad you're enjoying the "jungle life." I grew up in a small farming community that was very close to the North Dakota border, so I understand what living in the province must be like. I have no interest in living in the manila area where I currently rent a 2 bedroom condo. The noise is unbelievable, and there are many things that I don't like about being in that area. Maybe a different city in the Philippines would be OK. I am not sure, but I have ideas of living in the province and am always looking for that perfect opportunity to settle in somewhere. Take care brian and keep the videos coming I love to watch your journey.

    Just find a local diabetic doctor and get an A1C done every 3 months just to make sure you know your true situation as far as your diabetes is concerned...you don't want to walk alone on that issue. It's easy to backslide. If you stay under 6.5 you may only need to see a diabetic doctor twice a year.

    Welcome to my life for the past 13 years. My 5 cents of advice is Generator, we (foreigners), need electricity as much as water. Most of the time, the Power behaves itself on these little islands but during & after a Typhoon, it's anyone's guess. Depending on how many Droplines drop, determines how long it takes the Power Company to get the power up again. Could be hours, days, weeks or even months. We've done 8 weeks after a Signal 5. No power for that long would send most people round the bend. I ended up buying a smaller unit, in case for whatever reason, the larger unit fails to fire-up in the heat of battle, they're cheap enough these days on, you guessed it, Lazada. The other pearl of wisdom are those 30-100 Watt Solar Lights. They're piss-cheap also & light-up around the house & they turn on automatically. We have them inside the house as well, in case we don't want to start the Genny. We have a 30min-1hr rule. Depending on what we're doing, we wait that long before we pull the cord & start her up. And the last advise would be to strongly consider an ATV. Sometimes, after a typhoon, with flooding & down trees, my ATV is the only thing driving around. I love it. No License or Rego required on the island. That is all.

    • @Milliganman2003
      @Milliganman2003 2 месяца назад

      Solar is worth it they make led lights that charge all day great option, after a typhoon its hard to find gas for a generator

    • @AA-ge4uj
      @AA-ge4uj 2 месяца назад

      That's why God invented Jerry Cans. Also, Typhoons are usually followed by days of shitty skies which can hinder Charging. A Genny can also charge all your batteries. Lastly, unless you're willing to invest in a truckload of Batteries, Solar can't keep a fridge cold, can't keep ice frozen & Ice Cream becomes Cream. Plan your shit & stash your fuel, it's the only way.

    Even though you might not have every convenience that you had in the city living in the jungle I think that you wil not move back to any city. I say this because the province/jungle makes you feel more alive, fresh and healthier. Hope that this part of your journey brings you the best part of your life and I'm looking forward to your family journey. Enjoy your life like I can see that you are doing Brian.

    Probably just me but I’m a city person and thus, I haven’t really enjoyed your island videos as much as those you did in Angeles City.

    Coming from a Pre-Diabetic, and I did not get this info from any doctor, they don't want you getting better. That would kill their guaranteed revisiting paying customer, but I digress. Anyway, start a spreadsheet, either on paper or on your computer, and track your glucose readings over the next three weeks. With your readings though, you're doing it wrong. Here's what you do. Before eating, do blood test #1, then eat. 30 minutes after finish eating, do blood test #2, then wait another 30 minutes, and then blood test #3, and again 30 minutes before blood test #4. Now you can watch the rise and fall of your glucose readings and from your notes of what was eaten, you see what raises your numbers faster or what raises them slower, or what doesn't move them at all. Just doing one blood test an hour or two after eating tells you nothing. I did this some years back and got a good baseline of what I react to and how long after eating it affects me. Oh, and Province Life is the best life!!! We're just north of you in Southern Leyte.

      We are heading down to Southern Leyte next week. My wife was born and raised in a remote barangay there. Aussie expat retired in Cavite.

      That is my main concern about moving to the Philippines. Between my genetics and American lifestyle, I developed Type 2 a long time ago. On one hand, the walking and getting out of my stressful work will really help. On the other, Filipino food.
      My internet searches tell me that insulin is available, and costs about 20% of what I pay here.

      @@northernbohemianrealist Lifestyle I think is the biggest deal breaker with most with food and accommodations being the top two. That and not being open minded enough to remember that this is a developing country, and some things we take for gratin as basic infrastructure back in the state's may not even be in some places here, or be sub-par. With so many Filipino's with Type-2, insulin and Metformin are widely available. Not being extorted by US doctors and those never ending follow-up 3 or 6 month visits just to get prescriptions renewed is so nice here.

    One month...hmmm. I've been in the jungle for 16 years. What's coming? Jealousy to your wife, constant gossip, incest, petty theft constantly, begging for alcohol at the sari sari store, watch that one. Say no to a drunk and might just kill you. I watched my brother in law slit the throat of his best friend one night here on my patio. Watch your back buddy. This is Bohol where Bob Hall told me safest place he's ever lived until they beat him nearly to death after asking two drunks to please turn down the music as his kids had school in the morning. He eventually did die from the beating.

    I am living in the province and can relate to what you are saying 100%. It is a nice quite way of life. Rainy season is kinda nice that it is cooler, but riding the motorcycle in the mud is not so fun. 😆. Glad you are having a good time and settled in. You don't need to live in a city, you can go there whenever you want then get out of the concrete jungle.
