MrMobile [Michael Fisher] I work for a Paving crew it would be nice if you could test it check the asphalt temperature we use it to check air voids density in cold spots
I'm in construction. I started watching this video thinking it's going to be a bunch of gimmicks. Every one of those things is stuff I use literally daily. The air quality tester alone makes it worth it's price. The only issue I would have with that is they have to be calibrated a lot.
I too would like to test that. I don't work in construction, but as an industrial cleaner where we also have ammonia (for our freezers). So would be awesome to test this feature out
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] the good thing here is cat has plenty of money to invest even if it doesn't do well. So hopefully they refine it. Just because I'm in construction doesn't mean I want to carry a brick in my pocket! 😁
I just started a new trucking job hauling hazardous liquids. If the air quality meter is reliable enough (I don't handle anything acutely toxic requiring precise monitoring), that would be cool to have. The thermal camera would also be useful to look over my truck to spot irregularities like a brake hanging up or even a cylinder not firing right.
I’m also looking forward for this phone’s review. I work as an industrial mechanic, and we deal with a lot of rotating machines that fails if temperature appeared due to friction, so the camera on this phone would be very helpful in quickly determining which part is failing without the need to bring other big equipment and do an analysis. The air sensor would also be helpful since different gases could exist in the work area (H2S, CO2, etc.) Of course I would still carry my T-40 with me, but having this feature would still be nice to have.
I don't like the fact that they haven't upgraded the thermal camera resolution. From what I see, it seems to be the very low 80x60 that was on the S60. I really dislike this since they already have way better sensors since a year ago. Guess I'll just wait for the S70.
Engineering student doesn't do shit with these devices except for curiosity of things. It's field personnel who actually would benefit having something like this.
I'm an electrical engg student and you could absolutely use this in a final year project. Like they said in the video though- the usability depends on how accurate the functions actually are.
This is a phone for contractors or that companies will buy for their maintenance/facilities people, and it will be invaluable. Not a purchase for your average cubicle dweller. But it's great to see companies innovating and doing what smartphones have always done best; combining multiple different items you used to buy into one, well thought out and reasonably usable device at a fairly decent price. Now instead of having a belt full of different gadgets (smartphone, laser level, measuring tape, studfinder, heat sensor, air quality gauge, etc), you now have just the smartphone that does that, and have the added benefit of a smartphone that can survive in the rough, dirty and nasty conditions that these workers find themselves in every day, while helping to keep them safe while they do it (enclosed spaces have a real problem with building up toxic gases, hence the meter). For all that it does, $1K is a steal.
So true! This is what really the smartphone innovation is like, the convergence of different useful applications into a single cohesive package. The price truly worths it for people who are in the market.
Shout out to MrMobile for finally showing a product working men actually need to know about. Us non trendy/non mani pedi getting Neanderthals appreciate you! The range finder and VOC sensor alone are worth the tag
As someone who knows plenty of people with phones in construction, this phone may fill a good niche. I like more phones not trying to be one size fits all. We use em from different reasons.
I'm a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy, I could use that phone for SAR with the FLIR, use the Atmosphere detector for Enclosed Space entry & the range finder for giving distances from the Aft Mooring Deck during departures/arrival from/to the dock. Only issue is calibration for the Atmosphere detector. I will buy.
STEVE WESKER what do you mean 'we'?maybe not you,but there are still tons of people using headphone jacks.just because its old tech doesn't mean that nobody uses it
STEVE WESKER so youre saying headphones are outdated? are you for real? lol, wireless and Bluetooth headphones will never sound as good as wired one, just to let you know, only people with no care for high audio reproduction or people that has no high end audio equipment are the ones that doesnt care with the removal for headphone jack.
That's what i want to see manufacturers start to make, cool phones! like the ones specific to music lovers or etc. problem is that all companies are just playing it safe these days and phones are boring as hell
The same guy who didn't durability test the Verizon Wireless version of the Kyocera Duraforce Pro, and he thinks it's difficult to find a phone with a sapphire display. XD
Ive been using the previous S60 for the past year, its a good phone, not the most rugged, but definately above average. I work engineering and construction in oil & gas, would use most of the functions almost daily, the lasers 10 meter limit is a little short though :) will definatley upgrade when prices come down to their ~$600 bracket
it is already waterproof, but rated only to 2m. If you engage them it is rated to 5m depth and prevents fine dust(like quartz) from entering speaker hole. Basically you only use it when you know you will get real wet or when your friends play with the switches if you leave it on the table. But S60 is also the first smartphone that lasted me over a year, without destroying it(so upgrade in thoughtless from Xperia Go CAT B15 and S50) And having thermal camera changes your mentality the same as going from having separate cameras havering it always with you. You think something is behaving a little weird, take a thermal photo and check again in a few days or the fact that you can see in a second short circuit on a circuit board or if the floor heating was installed correctly and doen't have dark spots.
This works for me... I’ve used all of these as stand alone tools on the job at least a few times. As I’ve dropped my phone into some environments that have taxed the hardiest of smart phone cases, the toughness of this phone is pretty cool too.
Dude, how do you sound so stinkin' good?! (Vocal cadence, timing, overall smooth delivery...it's like your voice is computer-generated, only, in a completely human way. Good on ya!)
I own this myself and it's very handy even for someone not in the construction business. I found the Thermal Imaging to be very useful in monitoring the temp of my fridge because it was not working correctly. The measurement tool is good, but not reliable as it needs the camera to work with it. As it would not focus correctly in low lighting, it would give inaccurate readings. In optimum lighting conditions, it's was pretty spot on. I also contacted CAT and they confirmed that Android Pie is on it's way in the third quarter of 2019 for this phone.
I just love his reviews. Like the cat phones his reviews are also one of a kind in a RUclips community where all channels seem to report on the same geeky things. His reviews are something that I relate to and understand and even enjoy ! Hoping he reaches a mil subscribers very soon so that he can upload even more !
I can't wait for the full review. If the camera in this thing is even as competent in low light as my S6 was, this thing is daily material, and I'm not even in construction. That CPU and 4500mah battery sound like *at least* a two day phone, and an FHD IPS display of that size is about as clear as a QHD AMOLED, but without all the burn in.
You all say that the thermal camera is upgraded with a better resolution of 160x120 pixels. Looking at CAT site and the original manual is says that is ONLY upgaded at the thermal range up to 400c and keep the same resolution of 80x60 as the S60!
i have the s60 and now i want the s61 haha :) I'm a electrician and i dropped mine while installing the christmas star light on top of the 12m (39.4 feet) high christmas tree in the town square. Didn't take any real damage besides bumps in the metal frame around the edge and in general take abuse extremely well. Only downside is the glass on the FLIR camera broke when i dropped on a gravel drive way, but it still works perfectly.
I like the idea of a solid, tough phone but all the other features would be wasted for me. Also at $1K ........ I can not justify spending that much. Great review though (as always).
There are plenty of rugged phones out there. This just gets all those extra features for the people who need them. Most won't need this, although I guess you *could* find the features useful if you're in a pinch.
I know my Cat S60 has held up through horrid abuse over the past couple years. The Flir on it has come in handy more often than I would have expected. As general facility maintenance is one of my gigs, I can see the digital laser coming in handy. Air quality would be neat but I doubt I'd need it more than once or twice a year. If this one is as rugged as the S60, then I'm sold.
This phone is not meant to be for us. For for someone who love adventures, traveling, hiking, and wild nature who need tough phone and important features to support us.. so $1K is worthy enough..
I own the S60. Been a great phone, but there are some more smartphoney issues I hope Cat works out with this phone before release: - The regular camera is rubbish unless held perfectly still. I believe this is a software issue for the most part because it got worse at one point - The battery has severely degraded with time. I once upon a time got a solid two days use from it, which is impressive when you're teathering for internet etc... but now it's stretching one. I must say though, the battery is easily replaceable if I could get my hands on one, so props for using screws on the back of the phone - The GPS no longer works reliably. This is once again a software problem that is just such a let down. Worked one day, software update and now it no longer does. This is same and documented with a heap of Cat users so it's clearly something they've done - Ironically, the build quality of the phone isn't that great. While the function is fine and it is certainly as durable as they make it sound (I have accidentally dropped a wrench directly on the screen without damage), things like the port covers have some apart and the microphone grill. Considering the phone it offers for the price ON TOP of all the features, it's pretty good, but unless they've fixed this type of issue and make an ongoing commitment to the software, I unfortunately think I will have to take my money elsewhere. I was really rooting for Cat and appreciate them doing it different!
I'm a Carpenter I've owned the S60 for 2 years now before that I had multiple now broken Samsung galaxy phones I even learnt how to replace the screens but nothing has broken on my cat S60 I love it and definitely will be buying the s61 the thermal camera has become very handy detecting underfloor heating to helping me find a lost dog I even helped find a lost girl trying to go for swim in the sea the dark
That phone would be a great tool for my type of engineering job. I would use all those tools on a daily basis, especially the air quality sensor. Too bad my company would never spend that money to buy me a phone.
Finally, a new phone that has some decent features that are more about usability than showing off and trying to look good. I'm not sure if you're camera supports 50fps video, but it would be a lot nicer if you shot at 50fps next time you're filming in Europe. The flicker is rather bad.
With a Snapper 630 and a 4500mh battery this CAT will have a very long life! Michael that Thermal Imager would have been handy to check if CBKevin had a fever or whatelse!,,after the rough week he had in Barcelona!
I feel that the air quality sensor could be used in more mainstream devices as it can be useful to warn of potential hazardous fumes in the area it is in Useful to help curb CO poisoning (though maybe not as good as a CO detector) or in places known to have bad air quality, alongside construction
That is a BEAST of a phone. Great video Michael as always. Any chance of a Palm pre video and look back at webOS. Pleeeeeeease. I still remember the one you did at pocket now IT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE in the words of Scotty in star trek generations. I know you can appreciate that Quote. All the best buddy from the UK.
other phones use lasers with the camera to measure distances too for the focus for taking pictures, but i guess a bright red one thatll tell you that measurement and work a little bit further is newsworthy.
Mr. Mobile of the Borg knows that a good FLIR alone cost more than this phone. This one looks like it has a wide field so it appears like a really good deal! The laser looks like less practical than a good hilti though (you need to put the device in one of the edge of the room or on the floor so command has to be well placed)
I figured they would have put the laser rangefinder at the top of the phone. It's too bad it only works to 10 meters, 30m I think is minimum for usefulness. It's cool though, thanks for sharing!

Just finished Losing the Signal! I didn't know I'd enjoy it but keep up those recommendations!
I do if they're mobile. Covered the Switch last year and have a re-review coming up.
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] I work for a Paving crew it would be nice if you could test it check the asphalt temperature we use it to check air voids density in cold spots
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] PLEASE REVIEW THE NOKIA 7 PLUS ... EVERYBODY IS TALKING ABOUT THAT PHONE.
So I can attach it to my head and have laser beams firing from my head? :Q
I'm in construction. I started watching this video thinking it's going to be a bunch of gimmicks. Every one of those things is stuff I use literally daily. The air quality tester alone makes it worth it's price. The only issue I would have with that is they have to be calibrated a lot.
I was actually hoping some of you guys/gals would chime in as I too wondered about the "gimmick" argument. Thanks for your perspective.
I too would like to test that. I don't work in construction, but as an industrial cleaner where we also have ammonia (for our freezers). So would be awesome to test this feature out

Finally, CAT stopped using MediaTek chips. Bumped up specs. 1080p. Super durability and a headphone jack. Perfect rugged device.
James W it'd be nice if it used a snapdragon 660 or something but it's not really the point. The sensors in this phone justify the price.
i disagree, I mean, for 1k give the sd 660 at least.
I don't like the fact that they haven't upgraded the thermal camera resolution. From what I see, it seems to be the very low 80x60 that was on the S60. I really dislike this since they already have way better sensors since a year ago. Guess I'll just wait for the S70.
a 1000 dollar phone actually worth $1000. the engineering student side of me wants it, but the broke engineering student side doesn't
the flir camera and the air quality monitor's prices alone are already a few hundred dollars, definitely
let's be honest, the broke student wants it too but cannot afford to spend too much on one smartphone
Engineering student doesn't do shit with these devices except for curiosity of things. It's field personnel who actually would benefit having something like this.
I'm an electrical engg student and you could absolutely use this in a final year project. Like they said in the video though- the usability depends on how accurate the functions actually are.
lets be honest the grunts who need it all settle for b 25 and for good reson a smart phone is a distraction
The iPhone killer ... if you throw it hard enough.
Sersou Amine
hahahah
the 3310 would like to have a talk
Hold this W
Good one homie
Good one
Mr. Mobile makes RUclips the best 😏

So, not for commercial!!
Loving the Locutus effect with the laser!
That is a WOW phone. Great for engineers and contractors.
Cool gear!
I'm a scientist working with cells in a sterile lab and I want this

As someone who knows plenty of people with phones in construction, this phone may fill a good niche.
I like more phones not trying to be one size fits all. We use em from different reasons.
And stay mobile my friends!!
Man I ALWAYS make sure that I finish watching your videos until it reaches that line. Peace and respect from Indonesia
Diesel mechanics, electricians, plumbers, ironworkers, HVAC, and all the "blue collar" trade jobs will definitely love to have this phone
I'm a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy, I could use that phone for SAR with the FLIR, use the Atmosphere detector for Enclosed Space entry & the range finder for giving distances from the Aft Mooring Deck during departures/arrival from/to the dock. Don't know what distances you want to use it for but according to the text on the back on the phone the range finder is only accurate up to 10 meters.
Thanks for the free audible book I do appreciate it.
Now this is a proper phone, and with a headphone jack!
We don't need a headphone jack anymore it's old tech no longer needed imo.
STEVE WESKER what do you mean 'we'?maybe not you,but there are still tons of people using headphone jacks.just because its old tech doesn't mean that nobody uses it

SaeJin Kim looks like hes one of the few people who uses Bluetooth headphones.
Choa Park we should keep the headphone jack, but my sony MDR-1000x sounds pretty good
That's what i want to see manufacturers start to make, cool phones! like the ones specific to music lovers or etc. problem is that all companies are just playing it safe these days and phones are boring as hell
my cat would love this phone
Squaller my pet caterpillar as well
I first thought this was a pun about the company that makes this
tough phone for Jerry Rig Everything
He did a CAT phone a few days ago.
The same guy who didn't durability test the Verizon Wireless version of the Kyocera Duraforce Pro, and he thinks it's difficult to find a phone with a sapphire display. XD
AzuMentch36 the fact that you only mentioned one phone proves that it's difficult to find a phone with a sapphire display, what is your point here?
I actually quite like the design of this thing. Looks a lot nicer than glass sandwiches in my opinion though I doubt many would agree.
Damn. I got a massive tech crush on you. Best reviewer on UT, concise, fair and totally on it.
Is it weird that I need none of this but I still want it?
Actually you wanting this phone is not as weird nor uncommon as you might think, it's a great piece of tech.
Finally! This phone is legit spy game level stuff 😅
I imagine if a real life James bond were around, this would be the phone he'd use 😅
But those internal specs are actually good I thought it had shitty mediatek CPU with Android 7 but turns out I was wrong you could game on this phone
And it should be able to endure you throwing it to the floor in anger, too.
well most people who buy this phone would rather care more about the fluidity of the system than being able to play games on it
hammond clarkson Exactly
Most UNDER RATED Tech channel on youtube.
My cat would like this cat.
Well....It has a headphone jack can't argue about that one.
Basically, we are a wee bit closer to a full on tricorder.

I use the orange button next to the power button to activate the torch. I won't buy any other phone which lack this feature going forward.
This is the true modern Nokia 3310
This works for me... I’ve used all of these as stand alone tools on the job at least a few times. As I’ve dropped my phone into some environments that have taxed the hardiest of smart phone cases, the toughness of this phone is pretty cool too.
I have the s60 and have just ordered this, one thing they don’t tell you about this phone is the flir camera detects farts, its a truly magical device
Omg michael when you said "this is my last video..." in that sombre tone my heart STOPPED. For a flash i thought mr mobile was done 😭
Dude, how do you sound so stinkin' good?! (Vocal cadence, timing, overall smooth delivery...it's like your voice is computer-generated, only, in a completely human way. Good on ya!)

This phone looks fantastic. So durable and practical for certain career fields.
I'm a electrician and i dropped mine while installing the christmas star light on top of the 12m (39.4 feet) high christmas tree in the town square.
Didn't take any real damage besides bumps in the metal frame around the edge and in general take abuse extremely well.
Only downside is the glass on the FLIR camera broke when i dropped on a gravel drive way, but it still works perfectly.
Michael, you're simply the best tech reviewer on RUclips.
Ultimate work phone. Worth what it's asking price is, no question. Great review, I'm sure no one else will do this justice!
I like the idea of a solid, tough phone but all the other features would be wasted for me. Also at $1K ........ I can not justify spending that much.
Great review though (as always).
Wiggysan Wiggysan Take a look at the samsung galaxy active phones
Or just look at the iPhone X
duc truong giang nguyen Wiggysan said tough solid phone. Not beautiful piece of glass

There are plenty of rugged phones out there. This just gets all those extra features for the people who need them. Most won't need this, although I guess you *could* find the features useful if you're in a pinch.

thats really cool, i think its worth the price
buy this over the iPhone X
Aventanario 😂.
are you a constructor?
The features in this phone are more useful than what the iPhone X has, that's for sure
Owen Chua daamn yeah, this phone will be around for the next 20 years
Will it resist crotch sweat?
It's tough but not that tough.
It would probably sound that alarm at you.
Maybe
It's called swolls. Sweat of the balls. There's also swass.
Yeah iand detect other peoples crotch sweat
This phone is not meant to be for us. For for someone who love adventures, traveling, hiking, and wild nature who need tough phone and important features to support us.. so $1K is worthy enough..
The Land Rover phone (also made by Bullit) is more for outdoorsy people. For some reason it doesn't have hardware front buttons though.
You do realize that this device is not targeted towards outdoor personnel people. It is for mechanics, electricians and people like that.
Not for you not *us
Ade Teguh Prasetyo damn imagine doing bga rework and pcb analysis with this stuff...
Now this is litterally a useful smartphone. As a technician, this will be a very convenient device for me. I wish there is a review though. 😁
Okay I use audible every day for Star Wars books. I Fucking love it
No notch/cutout, tactile button, headphone jack.... its a dream phone
The phone i was always dreaming about !
Great video. Great phone. A worktool actually! Thumbs up for the videoclip and for the very convenient CAT-Bullit partnership!
Michael this was a great review and I appreciate the free audiobook.
Now this is a phone that’s actually worth 1,000 dollars.
Good to know about that technology- thanks. You just never know when a device like that could come in handy.
Worth every penny unlike the other €800+ smartphones.

Love Mr Mobile reviews they're so good
I was so hoping you'd check this phone out! Thanks!
Another great review. Glad to know that there’s a phone for the job
Great video, Michael! We love audible!
Mr.Mobile bringing interesting products like usual
With a Snapper 630 and a 4500mh battery this CAT will have a very long life! Michael that Thermal Imager would have been handy to check if CBKevin had a fever or whatelse!,,after the rough week he had in Barcelona!
Imma use the thermal camera to detect people farting 😝😝🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Κωνσταντίνος Κουφουδάκης
LMAO!! Nice one!!!
Κωνσταντίνος Κουφουδάκης no , you can’t measure the temperature of gases or air around just solid substance.
Sal Patt So if you do pick up a measurement, that wasn't just gasses escaping!
ruclips.net/video/1DiqL8iFD8g/видео.html
I feel that the air quality sensor could be used in more mainstream devices as it can be useful to warn of potential hazardous fumes in the area it is in
Useful to help curb CO poisoning (though maybe not as good as a CO detector) or in places known to have bad air quality, alongside construction
This price is good because they are offering something new and innovative that other companies can not give
I dont sub tomuch but your voice is amazing when listening to reviews! Keep it up and stay mobile!
now i realized you look like tony stark as soon as you said thats you
"Sapiens" great book to read/listen...
Is that last year's tricorder phone! Ahh I love it!
great love your videos....
You're solid brother!
Now I just want to see Zack put the phone to his test and open it apart.
other phones use lasers with the camera to measure distances too for the focus for taking pictures, but i guess a bright red one thatll tell you that measurement and work a little bit further is newsworthy.
Your videos are perfect! One of the best RUclipsr! 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love the mic effect nice video
I love you man, I love how you review things :)
I got the predecessor the cat s60. For sure I'm upgrading this year
my kinda phone,, gonna buy this someday
It comes with android 8.1.0 out of the box? That deserves the buy
Would love to see a full review of this sometime!
I dont think you should point laser lights onto the camera because it might ruin the sensor. Otherwise keep up the good work, Im a big fan.
Was only here for the lasers love lasers 😊
Mr. Mobile of the Borg knows that a good FLIR alone cost more than this phone. This one looks like it has a wide field so it appears like a really good deal! The laser looks like less practical than a good hilti though (you need to put the device in one of the edge of the room or on the floor so command has to be well placed)
I would really love an infrared sensor in every phone. It'd be so cool to be able to see though walls
Allow me the pleasure of introducing you to the winning team: Blade. Laser. Blazer.
Would have this over the iPhone X any day
I really enjoy your content.
I figured they would have put the laser rangefinder at the top of the phone. It's too bad it only works to 10 meters, 30m I think is minimum for usefulness. It's cool though, thanks for sharing!
A thermal camera on a phone? How cool is that! Now those are affordable too I guess : )
good stuff and quality presentation
Pretty good niche product, IMO
Thanks for the videos you make 😄 but where is the Nokia 7 plus Review?? 😄😄
