Everything built back in those days was meant to last...solid parts and solid construction with minimal things to go wrong. Nowadays the damn things are so packed with cheap crap and too many electronics will be lucky to last 20 years!

I'm in a similar situation. My friend found a 1979 Ford F150 that had been sitting for the past 20 years. I bought it from the original owner for $1. It didn't take much to get it running either, but I have had to replace just about all of the brake and fuel systems. I runs great with no smoke from the exhaust. Can't wait to see your find on the road too!

Nice! I want to get a ZIL 130 someday, I'd probably have the only one in the US! There are a few Russian cars over here, the LeMay museum here has a GAZ Chaika that's just gorgeous, and the owner has a custom license plate on it that says KGB GT, I thought that was pretty funny. One quick suggestion, I would recommend changing the oil soon, old oil breaks down and doesn't work that well. It's real hard on the bearings if you drive it very much.

That would be one seriously cool car restored, mile deep glossy black paint job would suit it with all the chrome work redone to complement it. I’d bin the engine and re jig a modern motor to sit in there, and modern disc brakes.
That car should be restored, very few vehicles from the soviet era made it to the west, apart from Lada's, which they exported by the thousands to obtain foreign currency. despite what everyone says they were not that bad, built like a tank and easy to repair.
It would be an amazing project to restore this old beauty back to as much original as is possible (although there won't be no more parts for it, naturally).
