Im from Panama , this incident was *HUGE* when it happened , buncha people got fired. The most popular theory *over here* on what happened was that some kind of *cannibal or wild man* attacked or stumbled upon the stuff of the tourists .
Yeah, very unlikely. I don't know if you're trying to scare the kids or what, but one probably died from a fall/injury and the other died who knows how long later, probably within a couple of weeks from exposure. The video is ridiculous and you can find equally ridiculous, almost conspiracy theory like, explanations all over the internet on this. People just underestimate how easy it is to get lost and die in the wilderness.
There was a woman who was hiking the Appalachian trail in the US and stepped off the trail about 30 feet and got lost. She set up camp and just waited there and no one ever found her. The reason we know what happened was she kept a journal. Search dogs had come within 100 meters of her position several times and she ended up being still within a mile or so of the trail. She died something like 20 days after getting lost.
The point in the video about not having water is just dumb. They were in a rainforest and we know some of the first nights they were lost it rained. It's also likely that Froon was following the river where her backpack was found in search of people since generally water sources will lead you to people. There's another interesting survival story where a woman got sucked out of a plane that broke apart mid air and landed in the middle of the Peruvian rainforest. She was the only survivor of the plane and she ended up following a river for 11 days that did lead her to people luckily. Her name was Juliane Koepcke.
After a month though, which I think is the upper limit for Froon, virtually anyone would be dead however and the level of decomposition isn't unusual for a rainforest after a month or two, contrary to the video once again.

0:44 very true. It's really dangerous to leave resorts and go into unknown places or towns because a lot of people look at you and your belongings as an easy target. It is especially dangerous if you go into nightclubs that guides or people from the region have not told you about since they prob drug and kidnap people.

Edit: Also, searching for more info apparently many of their bones were found, but no visible damage was seen to them, i´d honestly say they were killed by an illegal group (many of which are near the colombia-panama border)
1. The Panamanian police are simply too corrupt and incompetent to handle a simple investigation lol.
2. Imagine being stuck in the jungle and you have already attempted to call the police multiple times. Why would you stop taking pictures until 7 days later? That just screams foul play if you ask me. They even called the cops before they had a chance to reach the top of the mountain. I think somebody was harassing them, maybe the same guy who murdered them?
3. The parents rewalked the same path they took and they had a strange feeling that the girls would not just keep going past the end of the path. So either 2 smart girls decided to walk off the path or maybe were kind of forced too.
4. They could not find any skeletons besides the legs and hip bone. Thats extremely bizarre.
5. I think they got attacked. I really do. I also dont think that was either of the girls taking the photos after day 1.

I spent weeks studying and finalize solving this case.
What I concluded.
Tour guide F is killer.
he was first who found bones stripped of flesh with no animals scratches on it and no marks from rocks in a river once a $30,000 reward was offered.
He found a foot in a shoe behind a tree off the trail under leaves in the middle of the jungle. A needle in a haystack..
He found the cameras and plastic sunglasses in mint dry clean condition after months in a jungle, not a scratch on the plastic sunglasses or any water danage to electronics.
The camera had a photo deleted from a computer which state of the art forensic software could not recover.
My theory.
He asked them to go on a tour with them and sleep over at his ranch in the jungle overnight alone with him.
They refused, which drove his obsession. Many guys cant handle rejection. They were captured on day 1 on the trail,, told to go deeper in the opposite direction to his coffee plantation. He his son and other people raped them, used them as sex slaves. They chopped them up into pieces, They buried the bones in fertilizer from his coffee plantation which bleached the bones.
I discovered that the indiginous there for thousands of years, will chop up the remains of people, strip them of flesh and keep the hair, skull and other bones , in their culture the keeper of the bones inherits the spiritual energy of the deceased, they gain power from the bones and hair. One girls hair was brightly colored so has extra mystical powers in their belief.
Once lots of search parties involved , he thought his properties could be searched, ditched the bag which was in mint condition the contents and a couple bones to throw off investigators.
His multiple properties were never searched by cadaver dogs.
He was last person to see them alive.
Police covered it up because it will kill the tourism industry and the third world will become a 4th world country if tourists found it serial killer rapists are there.
The taxi driver was murdered, and two guys who swam with the girls were murdered.
Finally, the icing on the cake.
I found a video of the tour guide giving the parents a tour on the pianists trail, guess what's said on camera in their language.

In this particular case I feel like the overall evidence kinda goes against the likelihood of foul play. If they got kidnapped the first thing the kidnapper would do is strip them of their belongings/take control of their phones.... however in this case they showed a pattern of checking their phones consistently so it's pretty likely they had free will and were not being controlled by anyone. Probably just a sad case of 2 very ignorant girls who were used to their small home town hiking trails and didn't understand the scope of what they were entering, mindlessly taking pics and having a good time until a couple hours pass and they realize they have been careless, and have no idea how to get back... usually not an issue in city environments but in the jungle it's like a whole different world. As for the bodies, they are in the wild, when they died animals most likely ate them/scattered the remains around. Such a sad case of people who were never educated on how dangerous getting lost can truly be and were too dependent on their phones which turned out to be useless (they weren't used to or probably even thought dead zones were a thing)

Probably got attacked, im from Panama and can tell you that they were hiking in a very dangerous place(they are not the first ones lost there). That area is home of a bunch of native tribes(some unknown) and those rivers near the border line are used by druglords or "Carteles" to mobilize drugs. So yeah, not the best place to hike.

I agree they probably got attacked but the pictures are probably as he said, just to see where they were going or what was in front of them without wasting too much battery. It could also be that they were hearing noises, which in the jungle you're bound to, and wanted to check if there was an animal near them or scare it away with the sudden flash of light.
I also agree in the missing picture they probably caught the killer but I think the moment whoever was holding the phone saw him on the screen she fell back because of the scare and accidentally took that last picture while falling down or picking up the phone. Then they got attacked, the attacker deleted the picture and turned off the phone so it couldn't be tracked. After some time he must have realized maybe they had caught him in some other picture and tried to turn on the phone using info he could've found on the backpack until the phone ran out of battery. That would explain the deleted photo, the last photo and the many unsuccessful attempts to enter the pin.

Welp. Never ever traveling to south America, or hell, anywhere remote ever.
It is depends where you go. Don’t go to the jungle to explore... the jungle it’s huge and dangerous for many reasons like it’s extension, animals and bugs and because of criminal groups work within these spots to kidnap, murder and traffic drugs. Basically if you go to certain places where has jungle don’t try to be explorer just follow the guide always stay on the group don’t try to adventure by your own.

I know it probably doesn't matter but that cliff photo was taken pointing upward, you can tell because of the plants in the foreground. The roots are visible with a noticeable bend which means the plant is pointing upward toward where the sun would be.

Shit like this makes me scared to travel. I guess you just gotta make sure you know about the area, are with a group, and have the proper supplies Incase of an emergency (weapon, medical aid, food/water, etc).
Virtually any preparation at all might have saved them I mean just look what they were wearing. They went in with almost nothing and what they did have was mostly useless to them. The one exception being the water bottle. They vastly underestimated the forest and paid the price for it. A lot of people here are talking about killers, but it's clear to anyone who has done any study on this and similar survival situations that they had little chance after they started wondering around and especially so at night.
