There is a common belief that you will be lucky if you pick up some chestnuts and always carry them with you. Of course, when you go chestnut hunting, the goal is to pick up a lot more chestnuts because dishes made with them are extremely healthy and delicious. In continental Croatia, chestnuts can be picked in almost every forest. Croatia in October is a great ‘gourmet holiday destination’. What better way to soak up the culture than by visiting the myriad number of food festivals. During the month of October, many Croatian towns host festivals that celebrate seasonal foods and autumn recipes. Very popular are chestnut festivals locally known as kestenijada or marunada. Tom Wahl and Kathy Dice all the best from Croatia.

Wow! Really excellent information. Thanks so much for the presentation and your expertise. I missed it the first time around so I'm thrilled to be able to be able to come back and listen afterward. I love this Nutshell Series!

Great session! Disappointed the “lesser of 2 weevils” line didn’t elicit even a chuckle.

Use heavy cardboard with mulch on top instead of fabric since it will kill grass completely and then break down into the soil itself. No issues with getting caught in the mower.

Mark Shephard is probably laughing a lot during the chestnut part (also at the "you have to absolutely spray apples every day" thing)

Mark is not commercially viable with Chestnuts and does not sell apples at scale. Mark is experimenting...

Ender Whitekey doesn’t he produce at scale because of the co-operative he’s a part of? I understand he does lose some yield because of his methods but I thought his partnership with the other growers in organic valley made up for it.

He says he has grown thousands of bareroot chestnut trees, and not one that survived. Is he lying to sell his potted trees? I have grown thousands of bareroot chestnut trees with almost 100% success rate when transplanting them. wtf

By the way... the soil I started my chestnuts in from seed is clay dominant
