I am a retired hairstylist. I have helped many of my older clients transition to gray - white. None of them regretted the change. They were actually very happy I helped them. It is a long process, like you stated. In fact, I believe I was one hairstylist that encouraged them to change. I told them, " I know I can make more money coloring your hair and I could keep coloring your hair however I also believe if I know your hair would be very pretty not coloring it, I feel that is also a huge part of my job to give you that decision as well. " So, much to my surprise, they went with the transition. It's not easy but we took the time to do it. They were so happy with the results! Here I am at 72, I colored my hair a brown/red for years. I colored my own hair bc I knew how to do it. I just got sick and tired of coloring my hair. I slowly made the decision to go WHITE! I could see I was covering up the white hair my grandmother had! I made an appointment with one of my trusted hair stylists I have known for years after I allowed my hair to grow out to about an inch, after wearing a baseball cap for that period, I had all of the color cut off. Drastic??? It could have been however I have always been known to change my hair style all the time so I wasn't concerned. I did wear my baseball cap for awhile after that until I could actually put some style into it. I have nothing but compliments!!! My hair is beautiful white. I don't use blue or purple shampoo. It's natural. I use a good shampoo and conditioner with a mousse. I blow dry it or sometimes I actually use rollers! I know exactly what you are trying to say to others out there. There is no fun way to go gray! It's a long process OR in my case I did it bravely! Ladies listen!!! AGE WITH GRACE!!!
Hi, Diana! I'm so happy to hear that you are one of the stylists that helps women realize that gray hair is an option. That's fantastic and SUPER helpful as many of us got nothing but very negative feedback from our stylists. I'm so happy you are happy with your own gray hair too! xoxo
Hello! I thought ee need to use a purple shampoo for grey and white hair, to keep the brassy off of our hair? I can just use a good regular shampoo and conditioner??? 😮❤🎉
I didn’t know just how amazing my gray pattern was until I got very far along. I have regularly worn pixies and so went that route. My hair has gotten so thick and healthy, my scalp is no longer irritated, am saving a lot of money , and I look better with my gray hair than when dyed. Thank you for great advice!
I chopped my hair off, only had a inch of hair on my head. I started going gray at 18. I was tired of paying the big bucks having it professionally dyed. I was only 36 at the time but it was time for me. I know this decision isn’t for everyone. You have to make that decision on your own time. Since seeing us gray ladies is not the norm, I am always stopped and given compliments on my gray locks. Good luck to all of the ladies and gentlemen that want to take the step to silver.
Girl, I am 54 now and started turning grey at 16. Been thining all my life. Now it is very very thin on top!!! I was just done. I buzzed it all off Friday haha! I feel so empowered, happy, and confident now. I bought a beautiful grey wig and love this life now!!!!
I am several months in to going gray, had some highlights added to help me through the transition. My sister is very negative about it, but I could care less. I’m turning 55 this year and I’ve exposed myself to enough chemicals in my lifetime, I’m done. She’s having a hard time because she is 4 years younger than me and treading the menopause waters. I just support her and give her love. It can be a tough transition… Your hair looks fabulous! Gives me renewed excitement about my journey to a full natural head of healthy hair!
I was 55 when I also had it with coloring my hair! I'm going to be 60 in just a couple more months now and have gotten way more compliments on my gray/silver hair than I ever did with my dark brown hair! I will never go back to hair color again!
Thank you with all my heart for your encouragement! I’m going gray . This will be an exciting part of my journey. I’m 68 and still embrace my Woodstock days. My hair is dark brown and long . You are a blessing!
This is one of the most helpful going-gray videos I've ever seen - thank you! I currently have longer than shoulder length silver hair that's pure silver around my face and crown and dark brown with silver in back. During the height of the Covid pandemic I stopped going to my hairdresser and decided to ditch the dye. It's taken over two years to grow out. I keep going for regular trims and my hairstyle is supportive. I'm still getting used to it but am embracing the fact that my hair is much healthier.
You’re hair looks fantastic! I am fully transitioned, almost 3 years. Best decision I’ve made concerning my hair. Like you, reduced hair loss due to healthy scalp. Love the money and time savings.
This is my 3rd attempt at going grey. Going slow works for me. I first had gone blonde (didn’t like it), 2nd time I cut my hair (😞). Note I am just using brown spray cover down the center of my hair and adding a little silver spray under hair. I am loving it, it’s been almost 6 months and so far so good, my husband even loves it! Lol
@@KatieGoesPlatinum yep, and growing out hair sets up the perfect challenge in learning how each of us ticks! Back in those day, so many women were saying that unless you went grombre, you weren’t doing it right and you were missing out on the journey, which is BS. Whether you grombre, buzz it off, or drop thousands on a blending, they all require patience, sacrifice, acceptance, and transformation
Ya I started my grey journey in March 2020. Took a couple of years to grow it all out. Best decision I ever made. Cut to layered Bob so I could do it quicker. Growing it out long again.
I had a colleague say, "You will look like a grandma." I replied,, "I AM a grandma and lucky to be one." Old age is ablout being comfortable in your own skin.
I’m a year into going gray, just stopped chasing those roots and started letting it grow out. I have very long hair and didn’t want to cut it and I didn’t want to bleach it, causing loads of damage. So after a bit of time the roots don’t feel like they look as shocking as they do a couple months after you dye your hair, when you’re usually itching to cover those roots. My gray now takes up about 6” of my 18” long hair and I LOVE it now! ❤
I tried growing my silver out during Covid. Went six months, then decided to color my hair again….BUT I then used only glazes, not permanent color. So now my hair is growing out fairly naturally! I think the white hairs really brighten my face, as harsh dark dye can make one look “old” like people say gray does.
I had 8 months of transition and dyed my hair. I have always dyed it a natural black. I was shocked when I thought my face didn't look as soft as It did with the gray hair and I missed my gray hair. I am on the journey again and this time I am going all the way.
I tried to go gray about three years ago and watched you! Your hair looks great now that it is all grown out. You are beautiful. I’m trying to go gray again and it’s so hard. Feeling very self conscious. I’m 46 and I think I’m white, not gray. I’m feeling embarrassed by my stripe after six weeks no color. I don’t want to soak in those chemicals anymore. Thanks for this video!
Thanks, Bonnie! I hope this video gave you some ideas to help you get through your transition and enjoy it! If the stripe really bothers you, check out my video about how to go gray without a skunk stripe - that might help you! ruclips.net/video/xwQ7cNPVQ-8/видео.htmlsi=d8N9-f_lD6FqAFMf
Hi Katie. I hope that many people will absorb these great points. I had a mental list of cons for several years and hated that I was dyeing my black hair every 3 or 4 weeks because the silver and white was winning the war. Dyeing always made me self conscious and like a fraud. I knew my having drastically lighter hair would be shocking so I invested in stylish, inexpensive silver wigs. I would not wear them in public at first. This was an excercise for me. I needed to love how I looked with gray hair. I think the reason some women get negative comments is because they are unsure of themselves. If you bust into a room like a badass, people will say, Look at her. She's a Badass! Instead of "Did you miss your salon appointment?" There are So many ways to draw attention away from your demarcation line as your hair grows out. Use decorative barrettes, scarves, ponytails, wigs, earrings, etc. Most of all, Have fun. If you really don't like yourself gray, go back to coloring.
Hi, Cora - great advice! I totally agree with you about everything but especially about having confidence. If you have confidence that you've made the right decision by going gray, people are less likely to criticize or question you. And if they do, you won't be as hurt by it if you feel great about your choice to go gray.
I absolutely love your long hair. You were a big positive influence on my transition 4 years ago, now completed and also have long hair (curly and now healthier than ever before ). I did it natural. You're right about not telling anyone. The only person I told was my 80 yo aunt, she was very negative because she was still coloring. I got sooo many compliments from strangers. I loved the natural process because it looked like a cool bayaloge during my grow out. I had dark brown hair, and the grow out resulted in wonderful different colors of white, grey, black. I also had one friend who was intimidated by my choice, but must have inspired her because she grew hers out shortly after I did. I have felt very serious intimidation from my husband's X who is 70 (I'm now 65) and still dyes her hair, and its super thin and bad condition every time she sees me. You're right about after care. It took me about a year of watching going grey videos to finally do it. Was soooo tired of coloring every 4 weeks and very damaged hair. Now that it's completed, I still get wonderful compliments. Thank you for your videos.
You're welcome, Julie! And thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad that you are happy with your natural hair - isn't it wonderful to be done with all that dyeing and upkeep?
A lot covered in your video! I believe this is for women who don't want to look grey, even if their hair is! You mentioned condition - key! Condition is three parts internal and one part external. We understand a lot, when we're grey but still vital looking. You got my attention, when grey hair has courted me since I was 25!
I made the decision to stop dying my hair when it was time to do the root touch ups in January of this year. It's been easy since I was usually wearing toques around others outside, but now it's a little more on my mind since the nicer weather is here. All in all, I'm comfortable with it but it's still an adjustment. My main issue is that I dyed my hair brown but the underlayer a magenta colour. So I've got a few colours going on... Any tips from anyone who had more than one colour before their decision to go grey naturally. Loving all these positive and supportive comments on this video, lovely to see 💞 P.S. I don't have Facebook so not sure where I would join a support group.
I had shoulder length hair when I started the process. I did unicorn/mermaid ombre hair for about a year. After having covid my hair was thinning so I got a mid length bob with sections in ombre. Next cut was a pixie with blue tips. I had fun while going grey. Currently have a curly short pixie and love it. Try to have fun with the change. If you hate it you can always dye it again. I also use the purple shampoo about once a month.
I just did the part method, meaning, I dyed the roots when parted in the middle, then flipped it to a side part to reveal the silver grow out pattern. At the phase of a side part grow out. IT's so pretty
I agree 100% starting from No.1. Throughout you negatively list. May I add…having wavy hair, I am unable to use electric hair straighteners as my hair turns yellow which I loath, having 100% white I need every week purple Shampoo……Charo. I share a/c with my husband
I let it grow without a haircut. I feel that giving up a color and a length at the same time might be too overwhelming for me. Going grey is not the same as going from a warm blond to a cool blond for fun of it. It is an emotional, transformative experience.
So smart. I didn’t have the discipline to do that and cut my below-shoulder length hair to my chin for the duration of my transition (17 months). I didn’t feel like myself the whole time, and that grow out was a bitch. The only silver lining (sorry, couldn’t resist) was that my dedication to long hair was cemented by that experience.
I’m 62 and decided a few months ago to go natural. I got a buzz cut and found I had white hair in front, sides and top but gray in the back. I really don’t like the white color on me, though it looks great on my mom. I bought wigs before I decided to go so short. People don’t even know they’re not my natural hair and the different styles are fun while hair grows out.
Thank you for the tips! :) I only have around 5% grey hair but that's why I'm ditching the dye. Sick of damaging my hair for a small percent of grey hair and I wanna grow my natural hair healthier & make an easier path when more greys come in later in life.
You're welcome - so glad you enjoyed it. ❤️ And YAY - you're making a smart decision! I really wish I'd done that before my hair became super damaged :-(
You had a lot of great tips in this one! Thanks! I'm only 8 months in and my hair grows very slow. I've been blonde for years, and I was blonde in my 20's also. I'm not sure what it will be like when I'm done. You can't really see much difference. The back however is brown ??? I guess I'm not going to have as much silver as I was hoping for.
I also had blonde with my natural Asian black hair growing in. After 6 months of growing out the blonde, I told the hair dresser to use toner instead to try to make a more subtle grey/ash. Now I look like I have a balyage and have recieved so many compliments. So happy with this transition as my natural salt and pepper hair just blends in.
Good looking mam, I'm 30, 70% of hairs turned gray. During early 20's gray hairs started. Two years back i started using hair colour. After that gary hairs became more. Now decided not to use chemicals on my head 😊
I started greying at 15, been dyeing my hair since 24, I am now 67. After going on a very low carb diet I suddenly lost over 50% of my hair & its still falling out 3 months later. I've been allergic to most hair dyes, have been using hairprint for about 7 years. My hair still grows 1 inch /month. I now have 3 inches of very white hair, about 2 inches of reddish brown & the rest dark brown. I've decided to just let it grow, more concerned with the hairloss than color. My friends, who don't have allergies, do not want me to go grey. I've never been one to follow the crowd so that doesnt matter. I enjoyed this video, thanks !
I’m so glad that you enjoyed the video, Donna! Sorry you’ve been experiencing hair loss. My friend and colleague Joli Campbell has an excellent article about hair loss that might help you. If you’re interested, you can find it here: quicksilverhair.com/hair-growth-and-hair-loss/
Hi Katie! Thanks for all the tips and tricks in this video. I’m 11 months into my going gray journey. Doing it your way 😊 wanted to keep my longer hair, so I’m just waiting it out. Still have about 1 1/2 yrs to go I think. I absolutely love it! Should have quit the dye 10 years ago. (turned 50 this year, but look younger than I am. So I’ve been told most of my life) What are you wearing on your cheeks and lips in this video? Very pretty with your natural hair color. Thank you!
Hi, Lori! You're welcome - so glad you enjoyed it! Here's what I was wearing: lipstick = Maybelline Lust for Blush Lipstick. Cheeks: ILIA multi-stick "tenderly" -iliabeauty.nhuie7.net/QOqzVo Hope that helps!
My newly gray hair is so fun but needs way more conditioner than my colored hair. Even missing one application of deep conditioner makes my hair dry. I love the gray but the maintenance is important. I think gray hair is very pretty. Its incredibly liberating. Be careful with all blue and purple shampoos - my hair really got damaged by it. Or do a strand test bc it really stripped my hair.
Your hair felt less dry colored? I struggle with hair dryness and now getting more grays. Not sure what to do, was considering coloring it. But don’t want to damage or make it dryer.
@@milliem8051 Yes, the new texture of pure grey is sometimes coarse and dry. Hair dye definitely coats the cuticle and smooths it out. Its been 6 months since I went 100% grey and my hair is softer now. I also just recently tried "no poo" method and am still adjusting to it. Its not for everyone. You would need to read about it as it is extensive. Basicically you just stop using commercial shampoo and switch to clay/water, then rinse with apply cider vinegar. My hair is doing pretty well and I am wanting to stop putting shampoo into my scalp.
Thank you so much! I'm still sorting this out & every tip is helpful! I'm only a few months in, then chickened out & colored 2 white patches. Now, I wish I'd left it alone. I'm going to do this!!! I just joined the Facebook group!
I went all natural in 2015/16. I liked it but got bored so started dyeing again. I’m 51 now and going to do it again. I’m early in and I’ve been doing the dye strip but that’s getting old already. I’m using the brown powder boldly product on the strip rather than dye…for events…and I’m happy with it. My least fav part is looking like I have hair loss because the white looks like my scalp. Cheers to my second grey transition. 🥂
Hi, Jules! I like your way of handling the dye strip! And re: the hair loss illusion, I finally found a great product for that: shrsl.com/4m13m. It’s AWESOME. You can read my full review for it (with photos) here: katiegoesplatinum.com/silvering-beauty-review/. Good luck with your transition!
Thank you! I'm so happy to hear that! I should be posting more videos soon - things got a little crazy (in a good way) so it's been hard to be consistent. I want to be here for you :-)
Katie, I loved this video. I’m already transitioned but found reminders on hair care ie silk pillowcase and microfiber towel use after shampoo. I may try electric rollers on rare occasion when I get dressed up. I don’t think they are as hot as curling iron. Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
I have a theory that hair dye and bleaching contributes to auto immune diseases. Most men don't colour their hair and auto immune diseases are much higher in women. Your hair looks lovely. I've been grey for a few years. I have hashimoto's thyroid disease which really affected my hair. I bought rhasoul clay before I saw your video so am going to try to grow my hair out With clay washing. Great video❤️
My sister and I both have autoimmune diseases. We had traumatic childhoods. I heard a psychologist online (I have forgotten his name) who studied autoimmune disease in families. He said that because women are more emotional, they are affected by the trauma in a greater way than even their brothers in the same family. (We have one brother and he does not have an autoimmune disease.) Both of our autoimmune symptoms started long before we colored our hair. We both had symptoms as teenagers, but could not put the puzzle together until much later. (Symptoms increase with age.)
I am a long time stylist-clear glossing natural or gray or white hair is also a wonderful way of enhancing and shining whatever natural color you have! No ammonia or harsh permanent chemicals. It also helps control frizz and adds an extra layer of gloss that lasts up to 4-5 weeks. Some added body too 😉
@@inesines227 It is a non-ammonia deposit of clear (no color tone) that lasts up to 5 weeks depending on which product is used and how often you wash it.
Your hair is so gorgeous. I have like 5% grays in dark brown hair, I’m trying to get used to my changing look. I might color it but I don’t want to feel pressured by society’s standards.
Thank you, Millie! You should do whatever feels right to you. Even though I love my gray hair, I don’t regret dyeing it when I was younger as it’s fun to experiment. What I do regret is damaging my hair severely by dyeing it for years past when it was obvious my hair wanted me to stop.
6 months for me , but going through my hair thining so much this year but at least it stopped shedding and I ditch hair hot appliances ,except on holidays each month. Going to try biotin vitamins for awhile and getting healthy too. I do have hard water but use bottle water to rinse in shower.
My older cousin tried for over a year to get me to dye my hair again. It ended it when I told her that not only my husband was on board but that with me what you see is what you get and that I’m not dyeing my hair just because she doesn’t want to look at it. I think being 5 years older than me she just didn’t want to see a younger person going gray, it’s not my problem that she’s uncomfortable getting older 🤷🏻♀️ I’m 58 and stopped wasting my time and money at the salon 5 years ago. There is no way I’d go back now 🤷🏻♀️
I want yellowing lol. I have naturally golden hair. So when it does grey I don’t want it to look too ashy. I wan it to still be warm because I know it suits me.
Hey, that’s a great point! Since my hair is cool toned, I always try to avoid yellowing, but if you’ve got warm hair, I can totally see why you might want it ❤️
There's only one method to go gray. Let it grow off. I used Loreal Dark Blond spray tint to tone down my sparkling white roots as my blond grew off. I stopped using it when my roots were about 5" long. I still have a little blond pony tail to go yet. I could cut my hair to medium length and be all gray now. I need Joico Body Shake #3 now that I don't get the body from coloring. Many Joico products have been out of stock for 6-8 months in my region. I may go back blond if I don't find something that works on my fine, silky hair.
I stopped box dyeing my very very dark brown hair about.. 6 months ago. I realized I was super drying my hair out and getting ugly flat color anyway. I also don’t want to spend the money on salon color because my hair grows fairly quickly and I would need root touch up every 6 weeks. Can’t afford that. So here we are- embracing the gray!! 😂 think I’m just going to go the cold turkey method but had a question- what do you suggest for calming down the crazy texture of the newer grays? I promise I haven’t plucked any out in months! 😂 but it’s so hard when one is just sticking straight out
Best of luck to you! Re: the crazy baby gray hairs, try Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil - it's fantastic! amzn.to/3SbnrYJ Also, make sure to check out my Cold TUrkey playlist - since I went gray cold turkey, too, i have a lot of videos on it 🙂: ruclips.net/p/PLWcPhfzQN_g9vS_XafL8KEdcNCyrTwtvL&si=2U4lzlvX6kXpEnZS
I tried it several times. The last time, I had the hairdresser cut it really short so I was grey immediately. Had it that way for 2 months but couldn't get used to it. Probably because my face is naturally red. The dark brown I have my hair dyed in now makes my face less red. Still, I'm almost 60 now, my face looks young but my neck and cleavage do not. So it looks just off and I'm thinking of letting it go grey again. Still undecided.
For most of my life I thought my hair looked bad. I used box dye and would straighten them because they were frizzy and the more i did those things the worse they looked. I thought I couldn't grow them long and so I always cut them in ways I never really enjoyed. During lockdown I had the chance and time to learn about my own hair and I now have long, voluminous wavy hair that need low maintenance except for the dye. I'd like to stop that but ive only just started enjoying my nearly natural hair and I don't think it's yet the time for me, but when I'll decide to go for it I want to come back to all of these videos and really do my research.
That sounds like a great plan - you definitely don’t want to go gray until you’re really ready, as being ready makes it so much easier and more enjoyable!
I’m 29 and started graying at 13. From 22-27 I grew my gray hair out from a short bob. When my husband passed away, I needed a change so I went blonde then black then red. I miss my gray natural hair. I was probably 76% gray the first time I grew it out and it was easy. I’m 95% gray now so it’s not as easy. I’m a few months into growing it back out and booooy does the red dye demarcation line look awful. I have 3 important events to attend between now and march and I’m already dreading this hair in those photos but also tired of dealing with dye
I totally get it, Laura. If you haven't already, check out my video about going gray without a demarcation line - there are alternatives that don't involve further dyeing: ruclips.net/video/xwQ7cNPVQ-8/видео.html
My biggest worry about going that is will it make me look older? I've often been told I look a bit younger than I am & am happy to look my age but I don't want to look older!
I'll be doing a video about this topic soon, Donna - but in the meantime, here's a blog post that should help! katiegoesplatinum.com/how-to-not-look-old-gray-hair/
I too look younger than I am, but with gray hair people are less fooled-- I actually wanted to appear more my age to attract the right demographic! Plus, there are aspects to being youthful, including sunscreen, skincare, attitude, energy, and hands other than hair 👵
To be honest I would love to do it. But I am afraid I am 44 and all my hair is not gray but white. I am tanned color I don’t know if it will be nice or will give me an older. The only reason it pushes me to go grey is I am sick and tired to loose time to do it. Any comments or advise is welcome ❤
I’m 26 and graying. Had the urge to dye my hair, but my hair is rough and dry as it is, so it would just make it worse. It looks kind of cool. I have a very round and soft face and it tricks people into thinking that I’m younger but my gray hair confuses them completely 😂😂
It's super FUN to confuse people, isn't it? You have to do what feels right to you but I have to say that I wish I could go back in time and either NOT dye or at least stop dyeing earlier than I did (50). Silver hair looks great on everybody IMHO, but I think it's so fun to see women in their 20s and 30s with it. Reminds me of a superhero (Storm) or fictional character. So cool!
I was thinking about coloring my hair, 37 and getting more grays but not too bad yet. But my hair is dry and coarse too so I’m worried it’s gonna damage it too much. My stylist said could do partial balayage to hide grays, or all over Demi permanent. I’m not sure. Balayage would probably damage my hair too much.
If all goes well, you're naturally gray hair should produce it's own shine. If not, you can try purple shampoo or other brightening products - or use a little Verb ghost oil or something for added shine.
I'm at the beginning of my journey and never ever considered going gray before until now. I have no idea why it feels like it's time but I feel that it is. My issue is the fear I have. I have a judgemental partner and I know he won't like it. I'm 43 with a 3 year old son. I want my partner to still be attracted to me. I know I shouldn't care what he thinks but I do.
I think it would be hard not to care what your partner thinks - we all want our partners to find us attractive. But you need to do what works best for you, of course ♥️
My hair is 3 feet long, I'm dreading going grey because I really don't want to cut my hair and have never dyed my hair. I recently found my first few grey hairs, I'm 38. It's all seems so first world and over dramatic. Yet here I am watching videos of ladies talking about going grey and giving their tips.
You might find that you like the grey more than you expect. And we do live in the first world, so it's normal to have first world problems - if we lived in a culture that didn't prize youth and beauty above everything else, these videos wouldn't be necessary, that's for sure.
It’s been over a year now I have 8 inches of growth my hair got really long the bottom is color n old bleach . I cut already 3 inches I couldn’t go short but this stage is making me want to color it again . I’m struggling with the few greys I have but I’m tired of coloring n also scared of allergies now since I haven’t colored in a year . My color is mostly brown n my pattern is coming in very thin and throughout mostly at the crown . Looks like tiny silvers . Now if I do decide to color . Should I use a Demi? Or no?
That's a tough question - if you want to eventually go gray again (if you decide to color), using any kind of permament dye (whether it be semi-, demi-, or not) will still leave you with a demarcation line. Some women do say that they find it easier to grow out semi-permanent dye, but I'm not sure. That's just what I've heard.
I am going grey because it seems I need it colored weekly...I'm in the phase/phrase...I'm over it...that includes coloring my hair...Im just going to let it grow out...I heard it will take 2 years
I understand feeling over it! Whether or not it takes two years depends on how long you want your hair to be and how quickly your hair grows. I wanted my hair to be shoulder length, and my hair grows much faster than average and it took me a little over 2 years.
I’ve gone gray twice and returned to color twice. Part of what works for me is my high contrast - dark hair and very light skin. I had lots of trouble figuring out what colors worked on me once I went gray. So I’m a brunette for the time being, but the time is coming . . .
I get it! i loved my high contrast look (also had dark hair and pale skin) but don’t miss it as much as I expected. But it wouldn’t make sense to stick with it if you don’t like it. Maybe eventually you will! :-)
If someone had a problem with your grey hair, it's THEIR problem. They are likely speaking from their own insecurity and 9 times out of 10, the negative opinions you hear about your grays won't come from Men but from other Women, hence why you have to understand that it comes from insecurity. I personally know men who love when a woman goes grey.
Hi, Zhenia - I'm not sure what you are asking bugt if you're saying your hair has tinges of different color after you tried to bleach it and dye it gray I"m not really sure what to do - you might want to schedule a video consult with Color Lounge in Burbank, CA. They are excellent and can help!
Mine is white. I think my brother is more upset I'm going white than I am. I'm losing weight at the same time. My husband died a year ago & I'm ready for a change. I wish it were gray but it is what it is
I think white hair is gorgeous! I’m so sorry for the loss of your husband. A change is definitely a way to feel rejuvenated after a major life event.❤️
I made the mistake of telling my mom and my brother I was going to let my gray hair grow out. They both tried to talk me out of it. They told me how much older I was going to look and so on. I also told my daughter and my husband who were both for it. My daughter said that I should embrace my gray hair and my husband said I would be a silver fox. He still calls me his silver fox now that it is all grown out too. It was so hard growing it out because I had been coloring it my natural hair color which was dark brown. So while it was growing out I would use a hair color spray to go down the middle of my head to cover the gray. That was where it looked the worst. Once all my bangs were grown out it didn't look so bad anymore. Before I knew it I had a full head of silver/gray hair.
I'm so glad it all worked out and that your husband and daughter were supportive! I hope your Mom and brother can admit how lovely your hair looks now.
If you want to go back to dyeing, there’s no shame in that. But I did another video that can help you like your gray hair: ruclips.net/video/xlzFU4rJ46w/видео.htmlsi=W7ZbNDb5GqqhLc48
Whilst I went grey, I wore different coloured wigs on a near daily basis until the transition was complete. Once my grey was quite grown in I also experimented with up dos or half up dos that take advantage of having sections of natural grey in contrast with my natural colour for which I received compliments as it looked purposeful.
I hate this concept of embracing and not embracing. Live and let live. If you dye/not dye your hair it doesnt mean you are embracing or not embracing. We all have our preferences. My hair is black and I dye it black because I LOVE BLACK HAIR! thats my aesthetic
If you watch my videos, you'll see that I NEVER say dyeing is bad and that everyone should go gray. I always point out that people have to do what makes THEM happy. But maybe you don't realize that there is still a big stigma to going gray in a world where 75% of people dye their hair. Therefore, the concept of embracing your gray hair is important to my audience - mainly because most of us have gotten severe pressure from friends, family, colleagues, and the media to keep dyeing.
In regards to shampoo, I’ve only ever heard of using purple shampoo, never blue (didn’t even know that there was blue shampoo) - Is purple for blondes, and blue for brunettes?
Yes! Blue shampoo is to cover brassy orange tones in brunette hair, and purple covers yellow tones in blonde or gray hair. There’s even a green shampoo by Redken that covers brassy red tones in dyed red hair! You just always pick the color that’s the opposite color on the color wheel of the color you’re trying to remove. Blue = opposite of orange for example
You can also tell the naysayers that you have become allergic to the dyes, which is what happened to me. They will quit criticizing and become supportive.
Is there anyone in the comments who hates the way they look blonde or with light colored hair that has gone gray? I'm 42, been bleaching (2-3 times a yr only) and dyeing my hair since I was 14. I started finding gray hairs at 23 and have been adamant about never seeing my natural color. My natural hair is brown with reddish tones. I was blonde as a very young child but anytime I've bleached my hair and had to keep it blonde for a day or 2, I've hated it. I think it washes out my skin tone and makes me look ill. I have decided to stop bleaching my hair all together but I'm still going to be using vegan hair dye in my usual colors. I always have crazy colored hair, pink, purple, blue, red, I've had every color. Going gray and just being able to exist without dyeing it sounds amazing but like I said at the beginning, I hate the way I look with light hair. Just curious if anyone else felt this way and discovered that they actually like it now. Thanks for listening 🩷
Me! I used to try on blonde wigs to see how I’d look blonde, and the blonde looked terrible on me. It drained all the color from my face and was too warm for my skin tone. But my silver hair suits my complexion. I hope others weigh in because I’m sure it’s not just me.
They always show a 20 yr old going on a buzz cut .. I'm sorry, ... is it majorly an age issue, or linked/ associated with it(?) ... show middleage women going buzz ... I doubt it'd look as good ... Another super important thing to talk about is eyebrows & eyelashes when you let yourself go grey ... yatta yatta yatta ...
I think a lot of middle-aged women (like myself) fear that the gray hair buzz cut wouldn't be flattering, so it seems to be more popular among women in their 20s and 30s. But if someone really wants to do it, they should do it, for sure!
@@KatieGoesPlatinum Yes, but I'm talking about how stupid it is to always show young wo. doing the buzz cut, when going grey is a middle age problem mainly ... so they're not helping by showing a young wo. Of c, people should do what they want, that's not involved in my point ...
Yeah, it's so strange - I ask redheads ALL the time (literally - for the past 6 years I've been blogging) to share their experiences and photos with me, but they NEVER do. Same with blondes. As I'm not a redhead (or blonde) myself, it's a bit hard to talk about it without some firsthand knowledge. All I can tell you is that my Mom is a natural redhead and her gray hair is gorgeous -like a cinnamon sugar color. And - in general - it's a bit easier for women with red or blonde hair to go gray as the demarcation line is not so strong. Naturally blonde and red hair tend to blend easier with the gray as it grows in.
I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean you don’t have any gray hair and you want it? Nobody is too young to be gray - I’ve met women have gotten gray hair as early as five years old, and I was probably fully gray by 30.
Wow, I could not disagree with you more. I didn't use any dye myself while I went gray, but I would never judge anyone who decides to do it that way. Each person has to find a method that works for THEM - what works for one person will definitely not work for someone else.
They do different things - purple shampoo covers up yellow tones in gray hair. Blue shampoo covers up brassy orange tones in fading dyed brunette hair ♥️
So, much to my surprise, they went with the transition.
You're welcome! I'm so glad you love your hair!
Grey hair ladies are sooooo sexy. Trust me
I did the same. I clipped my head. It was awesome.
I’m 38 and going for it! So excited
I'm 39 and my grays have gotten so bad. I'm ready to just embrace it!
Girl, I am 54 now and started turning grey at 16. Been thining all my life. Now it is very very thin on top!!! I was just done. I buzzed it all off Friday haha! I feel so empowered, happy, and confident now. I bought a beautiful grey wig and love this life now!!!!
Due to my longer hair, it took nearly two years for me to go grey and I love it. I should've done it before.
That’s how I feel, too ❤️
I am about to hit the 1 year mark & reading your comment is encouraging me😀TY
I am several months in to going gray, had some highlights added to help me through the transition. My sister is very negative about it, but I could care less. I’m turning 55 this year and I’ve exposed myself to enough chemicals in my lifetime, I’m done. She’s having a hard time because she is 4 years younger than me and treading the menopause waters. I just support her and give her love. It can be a tough transition…
Your hair looks fabulous! Gives me renewed excitement about my journey to a full natural head of healthy hair!
Thank you for sharing. I wondered about doing lights on my hair or rather continuing because I still have some highlights. So it worked well for you?
I was 55 when I also had it with coloring my hair! I'm going to be 60 in just a couple more months now and have gotten way more compliments on my gray/silver hair than I ever did with my dark brown hair! I will never go back to hair color again!
Thank you with all my heart for your encouragement! I’m going gray . This will be an exciting part of my journey. I’m 68 and still embrace my Woodstock days. My hair is dark brown and long . You are a blessing!
That is so nice to hear, thank you! Best of luck to you with your journey!
I’m so glad you found the video helpful! And glad your hair is so healthy now - that’s one of the biggest benefits!
You’re hair looks fantastic! I am fully transitioned, almost 3 years. Best decision I’ve made concerning my hair. Like you, reduced hair loss due to healthy scalp. Love the money and time savings.
Thank you! So glad you are happy too!
Lol
3rd time's a charm! Sounds like you found a method that works well for you, which is awesome!
I’ve tried 13 and 14 times ha ha ha ha ha I’ll try it again😂
Hi! Why do you use silver spray under? Thinking about transition... thanx.
I love your insights. I ultimately had to chop my hair off to go gray because it was the only way I would fully commit to it. A sacrifice was needed!
Thanks, Stevie! It's great that you figured out the best way to make it work for you! We're all so different, right?!
Wonderful!!
In just two short years you will have 18 inches of beautiful gray hair! Way to go!
I’m thinking of going the short hair route
I tried growing my silver out during Covid. Went six months, then decided to color my hair again….BUT I then used only glazes, not permanent color. So now my hair is growing out fairly naturally! I think the white hairs really brighten my face, as harsh dark dye can make one look “old” like people say gray does.
Thanks for sharing!
@@KatieGoesPlatinum thank you! Xo
Instead of "Did you miss your salon appointment?"
There are So many ways to draw attention away from your demarcation line as your hair grows out.
@@KatieGoesPlatinum YES! And yay, experimenting with new colors of clothes and such! ❤️💙
Have very long hair haven't dyed my hair in 6 months will go cold turkey no chemicals anymore.
That’s how I did it, too! Loved every minute of it ❤️
@@KatieGoesPlatinum Yes, enjoying the process. Merry Christmas 🎄⛄❄️🎁
I actually told everyone that I was going grey. It was what made me stick to it!
I’m glad it worked out for you!
Loving all these positive and supportive comments on this video, lovely to see 💞
P.S. I don't have Facebook so not sure where I would join a support group.
Your hair looks great! I haven't colored my hair in ages, my hair is long and just letting the gray come in naturally.
Thanks!
I went cold turkey! I just left my gray hair come in in started cutting off a couple of inches at a time until I decided to big chop.
Wonderful! That’s pretty much how I did it, except I never did a big chop ❤️
Sounds like you had such a fun transition!
Day one for me!
Congratulations!
I let it grow without a haircut. I feel that giving up a color and a length at the same time might be too overwhelming for me. Going grey is not the same as going from a warm blond to a cool blond for fun of it. It is an emotional, transformative experience.
Agreed!
Totally agree!
Thanks for sharing!!
What a cool idea!! Wigs!!
Growing mine out now but i dont have that much gray, wish I had more because it looks so cool.
I am starting, too. And I feel the same! 😅 I am like... Can I have more grays, pleaseeee? 😂😂😂
Hi, Debbra! Thank you! And just wait - you might be surprised to find that you have more silver than you think. It's almost impossible to predict.
So I’ve been told most of my life)
What are you wearing on your cheeks and lips in this video? Very pretty with your natural hair color.
Thank you!
Hi, Lori! You're welcome - so glad you enjoyed it!
Here's what I was wearing:
lipstick = Maybelline Lust for Blush Lipstick.
Cheeks: ILIA multi-stick "tenderly" -iliabeauty.nhuie7.net/QOqzVo
Hope that helps!
It’s great that you’ve figured out what works best for you hair! Everyone’s hair is so different.
Wonderful! You can do it! You’ll love it, I swear ❤️
Your channel is my “go to”, your message is solid and smart!
I’ve chosen cold Turkey.
Thanks, keep up the inspiring work.
You’re welcome! Merry Christmas to you, too! 🎄♥️
I have a theory that hair dye and bleaching contributes to auto immune diseases. Most men don't colour their hair and auto immune diseases are much higher in women. Your hair looks lovely. I've been grey for a few years. I have hashimoto's thyroid disease which really affected my hair. I bought rhasoul clay before I saw your video so am going to try to grow my hair out
With clay washing. Great video❤️
Thanks!
My sister and I both have autoimmune diseases.
We had traumatic childhoods.
I heard a psychologist online (I have forgotten his name) who studied autoimmune disease in families. He said that because women are more emotional, they are affected by the trauma in a greater way than even their brothers in the same family. (We have one brother and he does not have an autoimmune disease.)
Both of our autoimmune symptoms started long before we colored our hair.
We both had symptoms as teenagers, but could not put the puzzle together until much later. (Symptoms increase with age.)
Oh wow! I didn't know about the blue shampoo! The old dye on my hair is so gross. Like an orange, yellow, brown mix lol. I'm going to get some!
Good luck! Remember to try it on dry hair as it works better (for me, at least) that way!
Some added body too 😉
What is clear glossing?
@@inesines227 It is a non-ammonia deposit of clear (no color tone) that lasts up to 5 weeks depending on which product is used and how often you wash it.
I’m 7 weeks in! ☺️🤞🤞
You can do it! ❤️❤️
I think being 5 years older than me she just didn’t want to see a younger person going gray, it’s not my problem that she’s uncomfortable getting older 🤷🏻♀️
I’m 58 and stopped wasting my time and money at the salon 5 years ago. There is no way I’d go back now 🤷🏻♀️
Wonderful, Di! That is a strange mindset that your cousin has but it's sadly not unusual. I just don't get it!
@@KatieGoesPlatinum i don’t know why but I’m glad she finally stopped. It went on for almost two years
I want yellowing lol. I have naturally golden hair. So when it does grey I don’t want it to look too ashy. I wan it to still be warm because I know it suits me.
Hey, that’s a great point! Since my hair is cool toned, I always try to avoid yellowing, but if you’ve got warm hair, I can totally see why you might want it ❤️
Great advice, and amazing inspiration!! Love the video Katie
Thank you, Ilana!
Re: the crazy baby gray hairs, try Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil - it's fantastic! amzn.to/3SbnrYJ
Also, make sure to check out my Cold TUrkey playlist - since I went gray cold turkey, too, i have a lot of videos on it 🙂: ruclips.net/p/PLWcPhfzQN_g9vS_XafL8KEdcNCyrTwtvL&si=2U4lzlvX6kXpEnZS
I’m doing this alone. I’m over 60 and have long curly faded out dry ends faded color and don’t recognize myself. 18 months growing out color
Believe me you’ll feel so much better once all the old dye is cut off.
I'm sure you'll know when you're ready - it's not an easy process, so it's best to feel truly ready to start and then you'll enjoy it more :-)
For most of my life I thought my hair looked bad.
Yes I have hair dye allergies ❤
I’m sorry to hear that!
White hair, tan skin sounds like a gorgeous combo to me, but you need to do what feels right to you.
So cool!
I never died my hair. I started to naturally go grey at 30. I am happy I never fussed with die.
Great advice!! You’re beautiful!!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for being real!
You're welcome! I'm glad you said that as I get nervous making these videos so it's nice to hear good feedback.
Any suggestions for someone with dark hair? What should they use make the silver shine?
Same here...
I love my transition,it suits me perfectly.
wonderful!
Thank you for sharing!
you're welcome!
I always wear a semi permanent dark shadow root.
Say yes I am going gray it best thing I done sick of the money
I never died my hair it gray noe and I love it.
Agreed!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What if you bleached and dyed your hair gray and after dying your hair has purple, green and blue parts. (Prestige)
Hi - Great video. Is your support group on any other platform? I'm not on Facebook 😁
Thanks! It’s just on Facebook, but you can get similar support from my newsletter: cksn.katiegoesplatinum.com/profile
I hope that helps ♥️♥️
What if I don't like my gray hair.
If you want to go back to dyeing, there’s no shame in that. But I did another video that can help you like your gray hair: ruclips.net/video/xlzFU4rJ46w/видео.htmlsi=W7ZbNDb5GqqhLc48
Im 23 and I’m starting to have grey hair 😕
Don't be sad! That's totally normal. And you can always dye it if you aren't ready to go gray.
I want to walk in like a badass!
Good for you! You can do it 🙂
Whilst I went grey, I wore different coloured wigs on a near daily basis until the transition was complete.
Once my grey was quite grown in I also experimented with up dos or half up dos that take advantage of having sections of natural grey in contrast with my natural colour for which I received compliments as it looked purposeful.
Those are great tips, Camellia!
That’s a great idea plus wigs are fun just to change up your look
@@KatieGoesPlatinum , excellent point!!!
I'm not doing anything crazy lol, just not coloring it again.
Easy peasy 🤔
You are SO right…we women are something else🤣🤣 we can be very caddy…I would be TOTALLY white if I went cold turkey
do not wash my hair too much. it is long and silver and i love it
Going grey isn’t easy when I have had black hair up into my late 50’s hug change. Not sure I want to do it.
It might not be the right time for you! ♥️. Believe me, you’ll know when you’re ready.
You can also tell the naysayers that you have become allergic to the dyes, which is what happened to me. They will quit criticizing and become supportive.
Great point!
You said silk pillowcase. Do you mean a satin pillowcase?
No, silk is the fabric that is beneficial to hair.
I am officially one year in today! I just ignore anyone else's opinion. So far it has been just one person.
Wonderful!
I figure anyone who didn’t want me to go gray has a bunch of their own stuff going on.
Good point!
What about red heads? Not talks about us
Yeah, it's so strange - I ask redheads ALL the time (literally - for the past 6 years I've been blogging) to share their experiences and photos with me, but they NEVER do.
8/10/2024...I made the decision
Congratulations!
Real friends aren't hurtful and if they don't know what is hurtful or not, make new friends.
Im 2 young to be grey. I feel inferior
I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean you don’t have any gray hair and you want it? Nobody is too young to be gray - I’ve met women have gotten gray hair as early as five years old, and I was probably fully gray by 30.
Like😍
dyeing it while going grey. is cheating ! like cheating on a test. good GRADE BUT YOU CHEATED. FAILED. YOURSELF AGAIN. just do it. buck up and face it
Wow, I could not disagree with you more. I didn't use any dye myself while I went gray, but I would never judge anyone who decides to do it that way. Each person has to find a method that works for THEM - what works for one person will definitely not work for someone else.
I hear a lot about purple shampoo. Would it be OK to use that instead of the blue?
They do different things - purple shampoo covers up yellow tones in gray hair. Blue shampoo covers up brassy orange tones in fading dyed brunette hair ♥️
