Hey Cupquake, I just wanted to give you a helpful little tip for your monarchs. If you look at 2:07 in this video, you’ll notice that your butterfly has a split probocis. You might want to hold onto that butterfly until the butterfly manages to zip the two pieces together because it may be unable to. If it’s unable to, you might have to make the choice of taking care of it, or letting it go to let nature take its course, because in the wild it can’t feed with a split probocis and will starve.
EDIT: If you don’t have them already, I’d recommend getting butterfly bushes and Pentas, great food for monarchs:)

@@TiffyQuake Yep! Thank you for helping with the monarchs. Unfortunately mine are starting their long trip to Mexico so soon I won’t see them. I only have three caterpillars left, but I love the process. I even bought a small greenhouse to and grew pollinator friendly plants just to give them a little food before I let them go. I even tried swallowtails this year. They’re so pretty!

Hi Tiffy! I’ve been a big fan of yours since I was like 12, and now I’m in college majoring in Animal sciences! I just want to urge you to please research more about what you are doing! Captive raising monarch butterflies is actually doing more harm than good to the species in the long run. If you really want to help monarchs, plant more milkweed! Or if you really really want to raise them, it is recommended that you raise only 10 or fewer a year. I hope you find this comment because I too am very passionate about butterflies and moths and really wanted to start raising monarchs until I learned the negative effects it can have.
I believe the monarchs she are raising are actually from her outside milkweed. In her previous video she shows how she finds eggs on her plants outside and brings them in to help raise them. I’m not sure if it is different if they are wild to begin with and raised :0
@@suncrestedfeather I know :) that’s what I mean. It’s the raising of monarchs that would have otherwise died of natural causes that is the problem. They wouldn’t have naturally survived in the wild because of disease and such. What would have usually killed them is now being spread to other monarchs that would survive. No hate towards her or anyone that does this, as I understand the love of them and the good intentions, it’s just good to educate yourself and know what you are doing too!
I have wild milkweed by my house and I've only found 2 little caterpillars on them, but thanks to your last video I was able to safely raise them both up to adulthood! They eclosed on tuesday and it was so beautiful to see their wings in the sun. Every now and then they flutter by the house to say hello. Thanks for your videos! 😄
Thank you so much for all your efforts. Our house in so cal is in the migratory path of these butterflies and year after year the numbers decreased to almost nothing but this year I've seen an increase and we are doing our part to help them on their way by planting lots of butterfly friendly plants. Keep rocking this!

My undergrad project is called "Monarch Meadow". we are creating a monarch and other pollinators habitat. My main research is testing for the OE parasite. Early in spring, I planted 3 butterfly Weed milkweed. About two months ago, I noticed 1 monarch and was so excited. Then, 1 caterpillar. Now, has already emerged from the chrysalis as a beautiful female. Today, I count 10, TEN more cats! Plant milkweed!
This is so incredible to watch. You have such a kind, gentle and beautiful soul. My daughter and I enjoy watching all of your channels. This series of the butterflies has been our favorite. Thank you for all of your hard work. Butterflies are important and must be saved. 🦋

I feel that the less you mess with them the better. I have a large habitat I put the whole potted milkweed in there and sticks And let them crysallis in there and hatch. Swallowtails are fun too.

THEYRE SO CUTE
I raise them in tupperware and transfer them to the netted restcloud habitat when they are about to change into a chrysalis. They attach to the top of the container and have enclosed just fine. The netted top is ideal for them to grip while they are drying their wings. Not sure why you attach them to wood sticks. Seems like extra work. Haven't seen your previous vids so maybe I'll find the answer there.
it might just be for aesthetic reasons but they also seem easier to access on the sticks.

Man my second batch of butterfly’s have all had tragic deaths, probably only like 10 made it out okay from the batch. For now my plants are put away until they are nice and bushy again.

My backyard naturally is a habitat for butterflies, but it sucks because one of our cats is very primal and she can jump really high so she ends up killing a lot of them. when we catch her trying to do it we do our best to stop her but sometimes its just too late and i feel so bad

OK I ACTUALLY HAVE A QUESTION:
I've been raising monarch cats all summer 😪, but one little guy recently has left me really baffled. Its a 1st instar, and I found it yesterday laying at the bottom of the container I had it in. I ended up prodding it for forever, but it wouldnt budge. AT ALL. It would occasionally twitch or lift its butt or something so I didn't want to give up on it, ya know? I splashed some water on it, dried it, and then it randomly started moving normally again. Then it stopped moving again. Like- the muthertrucker was dead. Now its perfectly fine and eating 😒
I'm curious to know if you (or anyone else) has any thoughts on what happened. Should I keep it separated from the rest still?
