Kūdō (空道, Kūdō) is a Japanese hybrid martial art. It is a full-contact combat sport that aims to achieve both safety and practicality, a style of mixed martial arts practised with headgear and gloves. It features stand-up striking, with throwing and grappling techniques being also allowed in the competition, including restraint, locks and chokeholds.

白川先生の美しい動きと迫力、そして内に秘めた気迫に息をするのを忘れるくらい魅入ってました。
みなさんが仰っているように涙が自然と出るような感動を覚えました。史上最高の演武。
合気道の演武は星の数ほど見て来たけど、こんなに美しくて迫力があって華やかでキレのある合気道は見たことがありません。

Shirakawa Ryuji sensei the best of the best aikido master.
Shirakawa sensei has not only great technique but also an open mind and a humble heart.
Most Aikido masters to date do not interact with other martial arts.
And Aikido has not developed, it is steadily declining.
Shirakawa sensei's Aikido is clear, beautiful, dynamic and very developed. Needless to say, he is special and It goes way beyond the normal Aikido master A lot of training and his talent abounds there. He is already a legend of Aikido and I am convinced that he is creating a new era. Congratulations.
My opinion says any martial art which never interacts with another martial art will die, sooner than later.
Aikido is very frustrating to learn, and it’s not very useful as a self defense until a very high level. I want to quit all the time but every time I see Shirakawa Sensei and his contemporaries perform it motivates me to continue. Shirakawa Sensei also explain the movements a lot and not keep everything “secretive”. This gives me another reason to continue as oppose to just doing meaningless movements. Thank you very much
You are wrong when you say Aikido is not efficient as self défense at a high level. Aikido can make collateral damages to your body when applying with efficience.
But the way “do” of Aikido is a peaceful art and we don’t want to be involved in violence.
Of course, if someone attack me I’ll not hesitate a second and will use all techniques I can to stop the attach, to stop de conflit, to the stop the violence.

白川先生が凄いのは言うまでもないですが、お弟子さんが綺麗に投げられている姿も良かったです。勿論「受け身を取らなければ・投げられなければ危ない」というのが解ってる上で…美しかった。

This is so good! I like how you demonstrated slowly to show technique and then did it at full speed. I wish there were more senseis like you in the USA. Many American senseis don’t test their aikido against other martial arts. You are one of my favorite aikido senseis.

@@itellyouforfree7238 Anyone who learns aikido as a supplement to years of other martial arts practice will truly benefit from what aikido has to offer. You seem to be comparing aikido's "martial arts techniques" to other martial arts. Aikido is breathwork, just like breathing is to yoga. A yoga practitioner can spend 10 years practicing yoga poses without ever learning how to breathe properly. Once he or she learns how to properly breathe, that will make him or her a better yoga practitioner. Do you understand now how aikido can be useful? No martial art is a throwaway; every martial art has usefulness.
@@claredin excuse me lady, but i think approximately 8 billion people around the world currently know how to breathe. thinking that the pretentious yoga pricks are the exclusive holders of some sort of secret regarding breathing is just ridiculous. as for martial arts, aikido has nothing "martial" about it. it's merely a cinematographic ballet that works as long as you find a partner that complies to your movements. as soon as the opponent tries to apply the slightest resistance, all this bullshit breaks down. this is the reason why aikido "masters" do not confront real martial artists
@@itellyouforfree7238 My take on aikido's breathwork is learning to breathe in an optimum and synchronous way such that it supports (rather than resists) the movement of the rest of the body; which is what is meant by "breathing properly". There's nothing mysterious about that, but it's not a natural tendency, so it does take some training.
As to resistance, being able to switch techniques to move around the resistance is important, as is hitting your opponent in the midst of applying technique; both are typically omitted in demonstrations, but, if I'm honest, both are omitted all too often in training (although this is not a universal case amongst all varieties and instructors of aikido). I, for one, find it fun to mix things up with other martial artists, but aikido isn't the only martial art I've trained, either.
Demonstrations also tend to use flashier versions of techniques to allow for more spectacular falls, but the flashy versions often have gaping weaknesses that can be exploited, if you know where they are. (A personal peeve of mine, is when I go to a seminar and one of my training partners seems insistent on trying to perform the flashy version of some technique, rather than the effective version, especially if the instructor just showed the effective version.)
Do you think this guy "tests" his martial arts against other arts? He takes his own ukes everywhere... and then when it comes time to do "real" sparring, he does zero Aikido and 100% bad budo... it's quite hilarious

畳と違って固そうな床で、しっかり受身を取れる技術に感嘆しました。
先生の、受け損なっても大怪我をさせないような投げ方も参考になります。
入り身投げでは襟首を、四方投げでは袖を掴むことによって、受けが地面に叩き付けられないようにされているように見えます。
参考にさせていただきたいと思います。

合気道の演武初めて見ました。
えぐいっす。
演武だから技を掛けやすい動きを相手がしている。
それでヤラセと言ってしまえばそれまで。
だが、実戦のフリーな動きからは、より多くの技を使える形が出てくるのだと考える。その瞬時に有効な技を掛けることが出来るなら、まさに最良な対応であり、武術としての有効性があると思われます。

The demo was indeed most interesting. It would have been even better if eventully there had been a moment for AIKIDO in a real combat situation and in a real life self defence situation🙂.

Can anyone please tell me the name of the technique where you drop to the ground and slide in order to trip the opponent? I've been trying to find the name of it for a long time now. The technique happens at 9:32 in the video.

Shirakawa Shihan's weapons demonstrations are particularly interesting. I wonder, have you made any video demonstrating Aikido Yari-Waza or Naginata?
Aikido typically just uses the three weapons demonstrated here. Occasionally you'll see applications for bayonet, short spear, or a longer staff, but those somewhat uncommon, but will typically just be minor variations of jō (short staff) techniques. My own instructor likes to throw in short sword versions of typically unarmed techniques, but that's more to clarify movement form than it is on how to use a short sword.
