  • Features: Projection of all the useful information MINI will allow directly in front of your field of vision with out adverting your eyes from the road.
Function: The heads up display will default on or off to whatever position you had it in last. To activate the heads-up display you must click the toggle switch. For reference if you are looking at the red ignition switch the heads-up display toggle will be two switches over to the right. This toggle will not illuminate but will raise the heads up display in front of the drivers side dash directly in front of your vision. If you do not see anything on the display make sure you pressed the toggle and watched the screen flip up. If you can still not see anything on your screen but see it is raised up you will want to press the voice control button on the steering wheel at any time and say heads up display. This will take you in to the owners manual heads up display settings and will allow you to change the height, brightness, and rotation bringing it directly where you need it using the touch screen, or I drive rotary dial.
Benefits: If you are ready to have less distractions while looking at the road now you can with MINI's heads up display. Everything from vehicle speed, radio details, vehicle messages/driver assistance systems and, turn by turn navigation data can all be scene right in front of your eyes with our your eyes ever leaving the road. Note for JCW owners you can also have current engine speed, gear display and shift point indicator lights on the display as well. But only if your MINI is a JCW and as long as the your JCW has the sport steptronic transmission. If you do put your gear selector in manual M/S mode and activate the dynamic traction control and you will now be able to see what it feels like to be a race track driver.

is the Heads-up display (HUD) on all cooper s or optional?

I have seen the HUD in a Mini. I am 6ft tall and when I look at the screen I end up looking down. My eyes are not looking at the road. Also the information appears to float below the hood of the car even after I adjust the height of the HUD. At this point the "transparent" screen doesn't really make a difference. For example it could be opaque and it would still not block the road. I am curious do you have the same issues with the built in HUD in the Mini and how did you like it? Why is this better than just placing the phone where the HUD is and look at my phone?

It should help raise your vision above the speedometer. It's not for everyone but it is very useful having navigation details In front of you rather to the center of the vehicle. I love the MINI heads up display and recommend it if available.

From the driver's viewpoint the information appears to be below the hood. What would be the difference between the HUD and just putting one's phone on the dashboard where the HUD is?

What about putting your phone where the HUD is? Would it have the same effect?

@@nikolaosberatlis3942 the pitch of the windshield would not let the image on your phone be displayed. If you had the technology where you could mirror the image it still would not be visible. You could always install MINIs click and drive but this would only use your phones information and not give you the speed limit, speed, navigation route or entertainment details. Google click and drive so you can see what I am speaking about. Hope this info helps Nikolaos

Yes, something like click and drive but mounted a little farther where the HUD screen is. For example Google Maps gives you speed limit, speed and navigation route and there are a lot of other apps that can even give you car information if you buy a OBD bluetooth dongle. Would it not have the same effect as looking at the HUD screen?
