So many people are commenting saying “it got a 4k release” This is about America. Where I live. And the Richard Rubinstein situation. I understand the video is too boring to watch to some but cmon people lol. Give me a little more credit than that.
Dawn of the Dead has been playing theatrically with the 4K restoration in independent cinemas for its 45th anniversary. It’s playing in Toronto at the Revue with Star Wars (1977) playing before it so it’ll be a fun double feature. Hopefully after the theatrical run buzz and Rubinstein gets off his high horse, it’ll be finally released on 4K and Blu-Ray in the US/Canada
Hopefully comes near me. Dawn 3d was terrible, couldnt hear the audio because it was in mono so you only get sound from the speakers by the screen and the 3d fx were really bad
I've been told privately about failed attempts from certain botique labels we know and love in making an effort to accquire the the region A distribution rights. The main issue with Dawn I was made aware of is the prices for the licensing fees. Realistically nobody can make a profit at the current asking price, and physical media is a business at the end of the day. But I can confirm that at least some boutique labels have tried. I just try to stay hopeful that someday a fair agreement will be reached.
@@Born2BeRad Of course dude! We just have to keep hopeful that something will happen. I constantly reference Dawn as a prime example of why it's so important to cherish our physical media. Even a massive title like Dawn Of The Dead can disappear indefinitely.
Same. I have the ultimate edition DVD set as well. There's even hidden special features on the discs! I'm so glad I never got rid of my DVD collection even though it's really big 😅
Dawn of the Dead is my all-time favourite zombie movie & favourite Romero film. I’m sure we will get a 4K North American release at some point but I will never give up my Anchor Bay Blu since mine is signed by George Romero & Tom Savini. Great video CHH & Born2beRad
From what we heard from Christians interview with clif from about the film for day of the dead is lost so probably best to hold on to your blu ray cause that might not happen
I have the Second Sight 4k and still have the Anchor Bay Blu-ray. I'll never let either of them go, it's my favorite horror film of all time. I sold my Ultimate Edition DVD over a decade ago and I regret it for sure.
I found the DVD set sealed and new at The Exchange a few years ago for $50 with all 3 versions of the film and I'm so glad I got it after the stories you told about how hard it is to find.
Same here. I have both 4k uhd limited edition set by Second Sight and the Ultimate edition released by Anchor Bay and those Blu ray/DVD will be buried with me.
Loved the video! My local cinema are playing Night and Day (no Dawn unfortunately!) at the end of April/beginning of May, and the first Blind Dead movie the week after so I'm incredibly excited!
Lucky I managed to get Dawn on blu ray in 2009 from a big Best Buy in San Francisco...just watched it upscaled on a 4k player and it never looked better!
I saw the 3D presentation at my Regal in 2022. I saw it three times. The 3D was okay for a conversion but the sound was so teeny. Still, it was great to see it on the big screen. Last year, Regal brought it back in 2D at around the same time of the year and I went back to see it once every day. It was a blast and I wished more people had seeked it out. I think both versions only played at over 110 Regal locations, which is only a quarter of their theaters (The 3D I’m not sure of that count since that played when the pandemic was still in public conscious) but it was a great reminder of how important it is to see Dawn in a theater. It really is an experience!
France released a single 4K disc of the Argento cut in 2019, although the transfers doesn't have HDR so colours don't op as much. Then Italy and Germany followed with some 4k boxsets which containted all the cuts in 4K. And Second Sight came last but gave us the ultimate 4K boxset with the best 4K transfers.
Ultimate Edition was at Walmart. I got mine there in 2004. The divimax version came out in April and Ultimate in October. I found them both same year by accident and picked them up. Just stumbled across it when I used to go to walmart regularly
I had a vhs copy I got with my very first paycheck when I was 16../it’s lost to history. But, I had the ultimate edition that I had George sign to me when I met him in Nashville in 07….but sold it when I was all messed up. It’s a life mission to either get that one back somehow, or get a kick ass replacement. All of his Dead films will be in my collection one day
I bought the DVD boxset when it came out, which I sold when I bought the Blu-Ray and I sold the Blu-Ray and bought the smaller 4K set a few months ago when I bought a 4K player. I didn't realize the Second Sight 4K was OOP already. Geez, this release is cursed.
I had the Dawn of the Dead 3D version on blu-ray a few years back but it was not the modern style 3D. It was the old blue and red glasses version and it wasn't great. As for modern 3D conversions, they are absolutely way better now than The Phantom Menace conversion. One guy, John Knoll, converted that movie as a test for George Lucas. Nowadays, they have whole teams working on them. The 3D versions of Titanic, Jaws and Jurassic Park are incredible, and look like they were shot with 3D lenses. Thanks for a great video.
Very interesting. I’ve been a DOTD collector since the first VHS release. Richard Rubinstein is the person beyond this problem. He holds exclusive rights worldwide for DOTD and Martin. He sold the rights to Creepshow, Knightriders and Day of the Dead years ago. His brother, Donald Rubinstein a musician and composer (Knightriders and Martin among others) is a fantastic, kind and very cool person.
He’s not so “ cool” if all he’s doing is trying to squeeze people for more money, all he was is an “ investor “ nothing more nothing less,he made his money and got his cut now it’s time to move along
I fell in love with that movie the 1st time I saw it. I love the claustrophobic aspect of it. I have the 4k. The one that folds out with like 4 discs. I think that is the Second Sight one.
I saw Late Night with the Devil and Immaculate at Alamo in the last week or so and I saw that they’re showing DotD I think April 9 or 11. Definitely plan on seeing it!
I'm holding onto all my copies of Dawn for sure. When it comes to European distribution, I believe Romero sold the rights to Argento ages ago in order to help with financing the film, which is why it is still getting releases outside of the US. I grabbed the slimmed down Second Sight 4K not too long ago since I too missed out on that big beautiful one...I can't imagine them making anything better than even the slimmed down Second Sight version here, so I grabbed it while I still could.
Just wanted to add a little bit information about the 3D. It was actually announced in 2009(Attack of the Show on G4 covered it). And the 4k of Dawn of the Dead and Martin are blocked from buying on the official Second Sight website for the US.
The Arrow edition was missing one or two commentaries on the Argento cut, I think due to rights. So It was very satisfying when Second Sight finally made a worthy follow up to the Ultimate Edition DVD, carrying everything over. Well, besides the comic book.
I have that dawn of the dead orange and purple cover. It’s basically a laserdisc because you have to flip it like the lord of the rings extended editions to finish the movie 😂 Never upgraded either film past them
I have the 1999 DVD and a French Dario Argento 4k from ESC . Bought for under 20 dollars from a out of business 4k reseller , didn't realize it was so rare.
I have the second sight deluxe box for 99.00 preorder, I have an unopened/sealed copy of the ultimate DVD deluxe box set, an anchor bay vhs copy and just traded for an Arrow blu ray just to have it. Rubinstein is releasing it into theatres again this May for the 45 anniversary.... Rubinstein is using h it as a cash cow past three years in the theatre for a few days and he wants such a high price for the rights to it.... we probably won't see it with a U.S. copy, so I'm super happy with the second sight 4ks , except the extended cut audio is a 1.0 I believe and Second sight should've done a 5.1 for it. The Ultimate copy dvd has an awesome map and limited comic book that's inside, which I seen in my friends copy, due to not opening mine ever.......I understand Rubinstein holding in to it, so he can keep making money on it until he dies. He might need that money to live the way he's living....
Dawn of the Dead..still the Best zombie film EVER MADE! This film needs more recognition. It really is Incredible. Is it not the only unrated film to ever make Huge box office?
FYI deep discount has the Dawn Of The Dead: 45th Anniversary (Original Soundtrack) - Deluxe Edition [Import] in stock and extra discount today for people who wanted that edition came out last October 🎉 ordered a copy yesterday
I bought 2 of those ultimate editions at Best Buy when they came out. One to open one to watch. Still have the unopened one thankfully! I'll never open it.
I bought the VHS version in '96, and again in '04. I happened just by luck at Sam Goody's in '09 I came across and bought the 4 disc special edition. That copy I gifted to my older sister, since she's a huge physical media collector like myself. The 3-D conversion I watched a couple of years ago at Regal Cinema, and it looked halfway decent, and this is coming from someone who doesn't like 3-D movies
Great video and very informative. I have the huge dawn box set and wondering if you could find out where those protectors are sold for sets that large. Thank you in advance
It is far more available in Europe because Rubenstein does NOT have the European rights to Dawn. When Dawn was made, the rights were split with Romero getting the North American rights, while Argento who got the funding for the film in the first place got to have European rights which is why he got to edit the film as well. So that is why in Europe it is easier to get than North America.
The Divimax dvd is theatrical. I have that copy as well. It is at my brothers place as I replaced mine with the Ulitmate Edition which came out later that year.
People keep saying that Second Sight release is blu-ray. Either they actually released a blu-ray only release of it OR nobody is paying attention to their discs because I have that set and the first three discs all literally say on them 4k UHD. The only disc that is a blu-ray is the region B locked special features blu-ray.
I got the boxed ultimate edition I bought in 2006 from anchor Bay with mini comic book, and 3 versions aswell as a 4th disc with about 3 1hr documentaries etc By far the greatest horror movie in history, how this film was released at the time of Jonestown and Gacy still baffles me
The German 156 minute version is probably a bootleg. That cut is also probably a dupe of the American theatrical version. Another reason they release them for such a limited time. And enjoyed your video, guys!
I really hope by you guys posting videos like this some company or another or even Richard Rubinstein himself gets wind of it and finally releases Dawn 1978 (4k and Blu Ray) in the U.S. The Second Sight edition was nice but it would still be awesome if this movie was recaptured for an American release
Hey christian do you have the zombie dawn of the dead three version laserdisc boxed set? I picked it up for $25 last year from a local laserdisc seller. Its a great release
That last DOTD release in 3-D late last year was barely released. Really wasn't promoted in advance, which killed it. I think Rubinstein's intent was also just to allow people to see it in theaters, because there is at least one generation of moviegoers who have never seen it on a big screen. It is a great film too see with an audience because they go wild. There is also talk that Rubinstein has considered selling the rights to DOTD, which could be good in that it would open up access to one of America's most original films. But Rubinstein won't do interviews. I know as l have tried to get him to talk for my DOTD book. So, who knows?
I still have my old Anchor Bay ultimate edition DVD set that I've had for like the last 20 years and I still watch it at least once a year. Went and saw the 3d version for the first time at the theater 2 Octobers ago after taking a decent dose of edibles, and that was the most fun I've ever had at the theater lol
Wait... Am I missing something? 4k is region free and so Dawn of the Dead literally just got an amazing 4K Release not that long ago. If I missed it in the video then let me know, but yeah Second Sights release is kick ass. It comes with the Argento cut, theatrical cut, directors cut and more
I still have all my Dawn of the dead Anchor Bay copies when it came out. im not getting rid of them . i never got em on bluray. most people sell their ; copies on eBay for big money but its just one of my good collections i have of horror movies
Awesome, guys! Dawn of the Dead remake is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s also one of those movies that I could watch every single day and never get tired of it:) You know those kinds of movies?
Further to my other post, the Second Sight release is also out on a standard edition 4k set. I just checked and it's available from all the usual sources. Why don't you just sell your blu ray set and buy the 4k?
Cause it’s not just about the format, but the really nice set. And the video is about why the film isn’t available in America. Hence the American flag on the thumb lol
true, but it's a very perrochially focused view. Most of 4k/physical media is online now with it disappearing from bricks and mortal shelves. You’re buying ‘virtually’ now anyway, whether that distribution centre is in the US or abroad. It’s a global format these days in that respect. Due to licensing, there’s many titles that aren’t available in the UK that have a US release and vice versa. It’s now very easy: A. To order a disc from a different part of the world and receive it a week or so later. B. Buy a multi region capable 4k blu ray player (or don’t and still be able to play the 4k disc, just not the blu ray). We are lucky to live in an age where the internet makes global shipping a convenient reality.
I have the Second Sight LE. Now we need .. DAY. Supposedly the camera negative for .. DAY ... is missing in action. Plus there's the Rubenstein crap. So who knows if we'll get it on 4K. They could use the interpositive, but again, there's Rubenstein that has to be dealt with.
It's easily obtainable in the UK. It is annoying that all countries don't get the same releases in their own countries. I was annoyed that Arrow did not release The Warriors 4k in the UK. Maybe they will at some point but there are always titles that we have to import and its costly. I'd love the Abyss but the prices are insane before any import and postage costs.
UK's Second Sight 4K of Dawn of the Dead is beautiful and easy to import (and mostly region-free). I can't imagine a better version ever appearing in the States - at least not until Richard P. Rubenstein kicks off and the rights revert to whoever. Dude will probably live to be 111, though -- and still won't have his money back from that stupid 3D conversion.
The first time I ever saw the Anchor Bay logo was on the 2 tape set of the original "A Nightmare on Elm Street." I had it and wondered why the voice tests or the deleted scenes were never on DVD or Blu Ray. That was a GREAT second tape!
So many people are commenting saying “it got a 4k release”
This is about America. Where I live. And the Richard Rubinstein situation.
I understand the video is too boring to watch to some but cmon people lol. Give me a little more credit than that.

I hope so too that would be killer. Thx so much for checking it out
I went to the 3D Dawn release at regal. It was cool. Not too gimmicky or anything. I think maybe it was the Argento cut.
After watching this video, I just had to order the ultimate edition DVD despite already owning the Second Sight 4k. Found one on ebay for 25 bucks.
Heck ya! 🤜🤛
It can be bought on Amazon however it’s very expensive for the blu ray
Yep. Thx for checkin this out
Hey christian do you have the zombie dawn of the dead three version laserdisc boxed set? I picked it up for $25 last year from a local laserdisc seller. Its a great release
I have a copy of the 1st original Anchor Bay Halloween DVD release. It's a double-sided disc with no artwork on it.
I was going to say the same thing. I remember flipping the dvd disc over halfway through to watch the second half of Dawn because it was so long. lol
He understands the concept of money rather well doesn’t he ?
Second Sight released a 4k box set with 3 cuts of the movie.
Yea I showcased it in this vid
An amazing release. I own the giant Second Sight LE and Standard edition 4k sets.
@@joshfulcifan1015 nice!
That’s so awesome. Thx for checking this out
I saw The dawn 3d release in theaters. Was Halloween weekend at select regal cinemas in 2022
That’s awesome. So jealous. Thanks for checking out.
I picked up the Dawn of the Dead 4k from Second Sight. Have it on DVD too but glad to have the 4k
I saw Dawn in 3D, Halloween night 2022. It was awesome imo.
That’s awesome. Super jealous. Thx for checking this out
Just got this took forever to find
Nice!!!!
i hope i live to see a U.S 4K Blu-Ray release see the light of day.
Wait... Am I missing something? 4k is region free and so Dawn of the Dead literally just got an amazing 4K Release not that long ago. If I missed it in the video then let me know, but yeah Second Sights release is kick ass. It comes with the Argento cut, theatrical cut, directors cut and more
We talked and covered second sight to no end, the concern is why the film isn’t available in America anymore. Hence the American flag on the thumb lol
I showcase the giant limited second site 4k at the end. But here in the states no company has been able to release it.
@@PlanetCHH Ah kk that makes sense. I was listening to you guys while at work, and must have missed that. I was like, wait a minute, hold up?
I already own the 4k
I still have all my Dawn of the dead Anchor Bay copies when it came out. im not getting rid of them . i never got em on bluray. most people sell their ; copies on eBay for big money but its just one of my good collections i have of horror movies
Heck ya. Obv me either lol. Thx for checking they.
Awesome, guys! Dawn of the Dead remake is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s also one of those movies that I could watch every single day and never get tired of it:) You know those kinds of movies?
Thx for watching bud
@@Born2BeRad Always:)
i have the one in the black box with all the different cuts and a comic
Nice!!!
Just recently bought the rainbow VHS and I have the midnight factory bluray Zombi set
The second sight 4k is region free. Grab that one. End of story.
Got it! Showed it!
We got the 4K in the UK from Second Sight but it's now oop and goes for stupid money on Ebay
I believe that’s the version I have
That's the limited edition. There's a standard 4k release from Second Sight that's easily available.
I've got that Argento DVD too 😁
When there is no more room in my basement...Dawn of the Dead on Betamax will walk the earth 😜😉💩
I call those editions the Andy Warhol art editions
Got the VHS version
I have a Korean import of the Dawn of the Dead Director's cut DVD
Now that’s rad!
I'm in the UK. I used Wowhd and paid about £29 delivered to the UK, which is £4 more than the retail price for the other Cameron releases in the UK.
Thanks. I'll check them out@@benpascall4297
I have the box set on dvd
Heck ya 🤜🤛
Same here I always wondered why they did the Rainbow on Dawn 😂🤣🤣🤣 What was up with that?
lol right!
