remember back in the '90s all the youth of europe wanted to frolic in London, no terrorism and no economic crisis, I think that decade will never return while I' m alive
It was pretty huge in its day and I believe was the song at the end of Scream, an iconic (for a while) horror film. Their album wasn't that good though and Saffron didn't sound good live, so they kind of fizzled out.
Definitely a contender for most gorgeous 90's pop rock girl along with the girl from the Cardigans and Natalie Imbruglia. She was also a dance music singer for N joi
I am from ex Yugoslavia. Was a kid in the early and mid teens in the 90s. Abusive father, powerty, wars in the region. I ain't missing ANYTHING about that decade... except the naivity of childhood and my perfect weight and jumping abilities.
Takes me back to 1996. I just finished Air Force Basic Training. I was waiting for a Greyhound Bus to take me to the airport for my first assignment. This song came on the MTV late night programming. The energy and pulse the song gave me, overcame my apprehension. Turned my anxiety to anticipation. Thanks Republica and MTV. I needed that jolt and i will never lose that connection to this song.
I can't believe this song is 25yr old I remember when it was first in the charts . I have not listened to republica for years glad I stumbled across this song 😀😀

I love her British accent singing 'yeaah yeah but he's drop dead gorgeoUS! 🤩 I can recall being around 12 years old when this came out and it was being promoted for the iconic 90s slasher film Scream... whenever that film is referenced, I think of Drop Dead Gorgeous! 😊
One of my favs from back in the 90s. Saffron was a gorgeous woman with attitude and I always saw Republic as successors to Transvision Vamp, with the same pop/punk style fronted by a stunning young lady. Unfortunately they only lasted a couple of years before dropping off the radar, although I believe they are still going. They should have been huge given the success of other female fronted pop/punk/rock bands around at the time like Garbage, Elastica, Hole and many others, Republica deserved to be right up their too.
The blazing, quiet summer of 1996. Republica hit the airwaves like a storm, I still remember this on CD UK or some other Saturday programme and being amazed by it, rushing out to get the album.
I still love this song as much as I did when I was 15. How is that even possible? Some songs just age beautifully. And they’ve always done wonderful production work. I miss the bad-ass female fronted bands of the 90’s.. fortunately many of them are still going strong today. :)
Can't overlook Curve.... Toni & Dean were fcukin amazing 👏 Lush, Garbage, Skunk Anansie, Sneaker Pimps, Dubstar, Throwing Muses, Cranes, St Etienne plus The Sugarcubes and The Cardigans had been along beforehand . Can acknowledgement be given to Blondie, Siouxsie and the Banshees, plus Cocteau Twins who'd paved the way for all those bands. Debbie and Liz are still writing and performing in their 60s/70s.....
Yesssss Garbage is still one of my favorite bands of all time. And Tracy is phenomenal. Hooverphonic I became obsessed with at my very first concert at age 16 when they opened for Fiona Apple. Still love them to this day!
Bin on the Isle of Wight several Times in the 90th and loved screaming out this song while taking an walk on the seaside. Awesome! I'm 59 , German, and still love the Isle of Wight.
saw Republica live at The Phoenix Festival in Stratford upon Avon in the mid 90's. Stage 2 tent was empty, right at the front. What an amazing set they did. Memories.
Loved this song when it came out, and tonight (June 2023) is the first time I've seen the video! I've always been super impressed with the insane precision of the drummer at 0:16-0:17.
This started playing on my phone randomly for no reason one day (apparently scrolled through thousands of songs whilst the screen was frozen, with no input from me, then started playing). Strange occurrence, no?
Saffron! I remember when this song came out in 1996! I was listening to The End in Portland, Oregon when I heard it. I was blown away immediately! This song 🎵 is one of the best songs ever recorded on Republica’s first multi platinum album! About a month ago I watched the original Scream movie 🎥 and literally flipped out when I heard Drop Dead 💀 Gorgeous! Wes Craven chose this song and made it Scream royalty! After the movie I found a brand new CD of them and bought it!
II used to see the singer Saffron from time to time when I used to walk the dogs with my late brother when I lived in Brighton UK (her hometown too) she is a lovely lady, and a pity you don't hear more of them thesedays
I follow this band across the country they never disappoint me. Totally energetic with their sound of electronics/ pop/ punk. I would totally recommend seeing them live. Their new music is fabulous! Quality band.
I just want to take a moment and praise this comments section…yes, the comments section! There is so much love here it’s incredible. Thank you guys for supporting each other and keeping the music alive. 💜

Heard this in the pub last night and even though I remember it from the 90’s I just realised how awesome it is. Got it on repeat today. Wow.
I was just saying Republica were NOT COOL when I was 18... But I know ALL the words!
I wanna go drinking with you!!!!
My word, had forgotten how stunning Saffron was! Such a cool look and sound.

She really was/is! And she was 29 years old at that time, about my age😘❤
@gabrieljohnson4213 “the girl from the Cardigans” Nina Persson is her name. She’s aged very well.
The 90s was the best decade for music I'm 41 I miss the 90s
Missing England and Europe in the 1990s, the best time of my life. Youth was painful but beautiful...
the UK used to be so awesome... Shame what's happened since.
I share the same sentiments, but from Stateside. My early life was rough, but beautiful things come through.

Yeah she really nailed it with Republica, not that her earlier house stuff was bad, her vocal range is better suited to the Brit Pop sound.
She looks even hotter than I imagined when I heard them on the radio
I agree! Her voice is perfect and she applies it to punk and pop!
It's called "an English accent" - Punk is a UK invention.
