He is such an unbelievable musician . Had the privilege of meeting him a few times after local gigs in Ireland . Always time to talk to the crowd after and have a bit of craic . X
Man this is awesome! One of my favorite Irish musicians singing a song written about a man that was born few miles from my home! Being an Okie myself I can relate to the line 'They called us okies, low down bums'.
Went to one of Andy's gigs at Carlisle Folk Club in the North of England a couple of years ago. It was a great night out. The guys a brilliant singer, instrumentalist and entertainer as this video shows. Thanks for posting.
What a treasure. I lived in Austin Texas in the early 90s where I saw Mr. Irvine at the Cactus Cafe on the UT campus. In all of my time in that city, teeming with music, Andy Irvine's show ranks up with the best of the show I saw. Never to be forgotten. The song Roul Wallenberg is incredible.
Got to see him Live in a smaller, intimate venue in NYC a few weeks ago.... one for the record books. Don't miss him if he's playing near you! He is a trad treasure.
First class Andy! First saw him play live back in 85 and ended up at a session with him afterwards. Seeing this, he just gets better with age - like a good bottle of port.
I saw andy play just a few nights ago and i must say he is a gentleman couldnt fault him all about the music really insipired me to pick my guitar and mandolin
Brilliant!!found this[quite] a while ago,via folk on2,when Jim Lloyd? presented it.[he played a more eclectic selection than the present incumbent!],and thankfully put me on to Patrick St.
Hi! Looking at the size of the box and the scale wouldn't it better be called a mandocello? Whatever we call it do you happen to know the tuning? Thanks.
Yes, that's a bouzouki. I read that he wanted a deeper sound, and for that the instrument needs a bigger body. The guitar-shape was the most practical.
Please can someone post the chords and a good tuning (6-string guitar) ? I can't pluck, so the best I can hope for is to strum. Any help much appreciated !
.."what's with that "all you fascists bound to lose" part?" ... go study some, learn about Woody Guthrie, and you will understand what's with that part. you will also understand why it's totally central to this song. hope this helps.
If you don't see the relevance of that line to the whole song, your concept of Woody's "vibe" is way off the mark. Woody himself would probably be shaking his head about people's talk of the song's "vibe"---what about its message?
Guitar-shaped bouzouki according to himself in concert earlier this summer. In these solo shows he currently brings this one, a larger mandocello, and an exquisite Sobell mandola (might be visible behind him here). I think this one is also a Sobell.
What a lovely story about Woody Guthrie .. and I love the song Never Tire of the Road.
Andy Irvine, you´re the greatest singer ever!
And furthermore, this song is a jewel for and of the music!
with greatest appreciation,
Freddi
Andy has one of those beautiful, unique voices that finds a place in your heart that lasts a lifetime
The guy is so soulful. All that talent and all that humanity.....

If you're an okie you must be like 100 years old.

I know I commented only 4 days ago but I keep coming back to this magnificent performance!

How can even one person "dislike" talent, I wonder... What would we do without music and the people bringing it to us?...
Andy has got to be one of the best self accompanists in the business. He's a really nice guy as well.
Andy, you're my hero. T.
Lovely. We went to see Andy in saint Augustine's church in Derry last night, a sound man.
One of my favourite singers, saw him down the road in Dun Laoghoire about 10 years ago at a concert with Donal Lunny
I was there that night fine gig but then any time I've seen him since the 60's he's never let me doewn
I'd love to know where the concert was and in what year. Thanks.
This one in particular always feels me with joy and glee.
Got to see him Live in a smaller, intimate venue in NYC a few weeks ago.... one for the record books. Don't miss him if he's playing near you! He is a trad treasure.
Saw him in Sydney on Sunday. Absolutely amazing gig and a gentleman to boot.
Such a nice man! He certainly knows his history!
i love this song. saw him in a pub in manhatten 4 years ago. what a genius.

Wonderful tribute, thanks for sharing it.
Always nice to hear andy introduce this one! All you fascists bound to lose...
This song means even more now
It always will gwen. They seldom lose.
AND EVEN MORE IN 2022!
One of 'em just got convicted. Not for his biggest crimes, but even small steps towards victory are progress!
Found this song accidentally on a compilation CD years back. One of my favs!
Looking forward to Andy playing at Wexford Arts Centre this Saturday
I hope the audience knew what a treat this was
Brilliant!!found this[quite] a while ago,via folk on2,when Jim Lloyd? presented it.[he played a more eclectic selection than the present incumbent!],and thankfully put me on to Patrick St.
A true Gem! To be honest, I have no idea how he and his ilk do it. So beyond...
Truly amazing!
Still loving Andy Irvine
Inspirational. Thank you for posting!
Really didn't know Andy was out on his own, where would you get get it!!!
awesome Andy
Love this.
What a legend.
It's called a "Bouzar" ( bouzouki-guitar)
made by Stephan Sobell... quite an instrument.
But it's not really the same in anyone else's hands. :)
Great.
@RocknRoller74 It's a Bouzouki-Guitar. Don't worry, I'd never seen one before either.
Check out Rocky Road by the Alabama Sacred Harp Singers, think I found Andy's source for the melody of this song
They did, didn't they !
Spotted lisa carthy in the audience..
find out what his tour schedule is and go the extra mile to see him. Dunno where you are but he does come to the states...
@larrycake1981 best and the most moving tune tonight
@streetcornersongbird Is it tuned like a bouzouki?
I'm sure he'll come back there. Why don't you email him and find out if there's a tour of Australia/New Zealand in the works.
Great song - beautiful playing!
Does anyone know what instrument Andy is playing?
BTW Andy's playing Edinburgh this Wednesday - 25th April 2012
It's a guitar bouzouki made by Stefan Sobell in Northumberland, 8 strings, 4 double courses, tuned GDAD.
Murrmac -- Do you know that Woody's guitar had a message inscribed on it that ran this machine kills fascists?
Excellent , could someone what gig this was ? Is this from a dvd and is that billy bragg walking out at the end?
@RocknRoller74 I'm not sure, But It sounds like GDAD.
Hi! Looking at the size of the box and the scale wouldn't it better be called a mandocello? Whatever we call it do you happen to know the tuning? Thanks.
It's a guitar shaped bouzouki
Great song. The Version with Mozaik is even better...
What were the tips, share the genius...
Seen him twice with Patrick St.Brilliant musicians all!!{shame about the audience on this video}
Great song can you explain to me your guitar who come there is only four strings? What are they and are they tuned to an open chord?
Yes, that's a bouzouki. I read that he wanted a deeper sound, and for that the instrument needs a bigger body. The guitar-shape was the most practical.
The moost icredible everer.
Is that an up side down 'Sunrise' - ?
Does anyone know when/where this was recorded?
90's?
He wasn't grey in the nineties
@@AndyIrvineFanblog
i believe he's playing a custom made bazouki that has a jumbo guitar body.
I know, I mean "all you fascists bound to lose" is a woodie guthrie song.
This machine kills fascists
Please can someone post the chords and a good tuning (6-string guitar) ? I can't pluck, so the best I can hope for is to strum. Any help much appreciated !
They are bound to lose! Lets start with getting rid of Trump then Johnson! Get them out
Its a woody guthrie song

8-string guitar...?
played in E.try E,A,B,C#m.Bonne chance.
Louder for the people in the back: all you fascists bound to lose!
Ok I bashed at my guitar and a plausible set seem G, C, D7, Am, D. Capo 1 or 2 depending or none if you're Paul Robeson.
If you don't see the relevance of that line to the whole song, your concept of Woody's "vibe" is way off the mark. Woody himself would probably be shaking his head about people's talk of the song's "vibe"---what about its message?
3 people are facists...
Looks like a 8 string tenor guitar.

Fascist still bound too lose .
ballbag!
