I was in my late teens at that time....yes, that was a great era of Yankee baseball.....George, Billy, Reggie, Thurman, Catfish, Rivers, Sweet Lou, Willie, Guidry..the Bronx Zoo.
MY FEELINGS EXACTLY...Look up "The Bronx Is Burning" (ESPN miniseries about the 1976-1977 Yankee seasons when Reggie initially signed with the Yankees)..
Was a shorty growing up in the 70's,Yankees hit back news when Reggie,Billy and George always had beef. But they won 2 championships 1977,1978,1981 lost WS to LA Dodgers in 6 games
Nettles was there too. I think Nettles knew that the eject button on one seat was problematic and when Reggie sat in it, he told him that Munson planned it that way lol.
That may not have been the actual plane. I'm pretty sure he had just bought the one that he died in. The previous one wasn't as powerful or complicated.
Munson was used to flying double propeller airplanes. When he got the Cessna Citation the flying characteristics are on a totally different level of flying. Jet engines require a faster landing (controlled crash), speed. Thinking his airplane stalled out because of him not being instructed by Cessna, they admitted fault and settled with his estate. God keep Thurman Munson in your heart.
He didn't start denying the "straw that stirs the drink" quote until years after the article came out. If he didn't say it, why didn't he deny it at the time?
Because there wasn’t social media back then or any way for someone to immediately deny it. When the article finally came out months after the interview, it’s likely that the powers that be - Steinbrenner and/or Martin - told everyone involved to put a lid on it and wait for it blow over rather than continue to fuel the flames.
The feud started when Thurman took some of the attention away from Reggie without intentionally trying. Munson was just going about playing the game the way he did while conducting himself in a way teammates respected. All of that took focus away from Reggie and he didn't know how to handle it.
When Reggie said the the things he did about Thurman, that's what got Billy Martin mad at him. Other players have said that Thurman and Reggie were not friends, and Thurman himself said that not everyone on the team got LONG WITH EACH OTHER. BUT THURMAN APPRECIATED WHAT REGGIE HAD DONE IN THE WORLD SERIES.
Remember when in the 90s you talked about hoping someone would tell you when it was your time to leave after losing your edge Howard? You are overdue! Please make this your last year!
@@nickbarcheck1019 Sorry, one correction, now that I checked it up - Munson was from Canton, Ohio, not Cleveland. Otherwise my memory seems intact as to the rest of what I wrote above.
One of my heroes from one of the greatest Yankees dynasties ever!!! That whole team meant the world to me growing up in the Bronx.

RIP Thurman Munson. Should be in the baseball hall of fame.
Hellyeah
If Munson Belongs you might as well put everyone in the HOF too.
Elston Howard, Jorge Posada and Donnie Baseball too
Add Bill Freehan another AL catcher, 11 time All Star catcher is not in the hall.
Absolutely
Thurman is a legend
And Reggie is a legend.
And I’m a legend... to someone out there I suppose
@@GiantsJets718 yes you are....my friend. Indeed
Thank 77 and 78 Yankees, when I became a Yankee fan. Reggie and Thurman soild players.

Wow. Reggie actually flew on the same plane (before) Thurmon ended up crashing and dying in it in 1979.
I already knew that fact. I read it in Reggie’s book which came out many years ago. Yes, Reggie was a passenger on Thurman’s plane.
Nettles was there too. I think Nettles knew that the eject button on one seat was problematic and when Reggie sat in it, he told him that Munson planned it that way lol.
First time I heard that, damn

I remember quote well!
"I'm the straw the stirs the drink" 🔥🔥🔥
@2:11 Howard "no kidding, he flew and you were on the plane with him?" Ahhh, yea! 😂
That was a surprise.
Reggie looks cuter now than he did back then. Forever in our hearts Thurman💔
God love you Reggie. You mean so much to Yankee fans
A’s fans also.
Picking sides here is tough without both parties testifying. Reggie has defined himself over his years, as did Thurman. RIP.
Reggie was in Baltimore before he came to New York not Oakland
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏rip munson
despite the chaos those were magical and successful times for us New Yorkers. wish Reggie stayed beyond 1981.
One of the saddest days when Thurman got killed.
Bobby Murcer was Munson's best friend on the team, and he refused to fly in his plane.
saw Bobby Mercer crack a huge home run in Detroit on time -- a monster shot that hit up on roof above upper deck & rolled back onto the field.
Bobby got to the Cubs about 1977….he hit more warning track fly balls than anyone I ever saw. The home runs were no more.
Bobby Mercer was one of four brothers and took down Victor Sweet.
Bobby paid for the fuel for the flight Munson died on too.
Awesome interview.

Munson should be in the HOF period.
Thurman and Reggie were two great Yankees!
80 k views in 2 weeks????🤣🤣 the king of all media no more
Is Howard back in the studio?
Is Reggie talking about George Steinbrenner? 🤔
Yes!
Costanza.
No, Steinbrenner is a fictional character on Signfield.

No shit Sherlock
I believe he said he is the straw that stirs the drink. It dont even make since that he said Thurman stirs it badly. That makes absolutely no sense
That was part of the quote.
Next to Ali, Reggie was the greatest self-promoter, constantly talking about himself in the 3rd person.
Awesomeness!!! ✊👊😎🍁♈🍁
Howard is such a great interviewer.
He wore number 20 when he first was signed by George. Imagine that!!
Munson didn't have the thunder in his bat that Reggie did.
True but Munson was more the popular Yankee
Munson was the leader.
Of course not but catcher is the most important position on the field.
Very few players in MLB had the same thunder as Reggie.
He was just as clutch though or more.
Is it so wrong to say Reggie was the straw that stirred the drink?
I guess it is🤣
Thurman Munson # 15 forever my Captain
Thurmon died, on that plane, in a crash when he was the pilot, in August of 1979, at the age of 32
Reggie got N.Y over the hump to win the World Series.
I still miss Thurman!
Wow great stuff
The feud started when Thurman took some of the attention away from Reggie without intentionally trying. Munson was just going about playing the game the way he did while conducting himself in a way teammates respected. All of that took focus away from Reggie and he didn't know how to handle it.
Reggie, what a class act. He was a great asset to the Yankees.
Reggie is still very sharp and clear of mind.
I bet he’s not a drinker,.. He looks healthy
I think the feud was gone by the time they reach the playoffs.
Reggie was a diva. So was Steinbrenner and B. Martin. That clash of egos prevent the Yankees to win more World Series.
When Reggie said the the things he did about Thurman, that's what got Billy Martin mad at him. Other players have said that Thurman and Reggie were not friends, and Thurman himself said that not everyone on the team got LONG WITH EACH OTHER. True
I'm gonna take everything Reggie says with a grain of salt.
The NY press can really get out of line.
Most likely he said it. At least they made up or put up with each other and were able to win the World Series
So was Bobby Grich ever in play?
Stern has NO IDEA about Anything about Reggie and Thurman. NOTHING.
Stern knows so little about sports he should stick to his own lane and keep sport intervening to Dan Patrick
Remember when in the 90s you talked about hoping someone would tell you when it was your time to leave after losing your edge Howard? You are overdue! Please make this your last year!
Hey NOW!
Stern ' _lost his edge_ ' after his first wife left him.
You don't have to listen. There are tons of other channels
I agree stern has stunk for years now
I knew Reggie didn't say that.
I thought it was common sense not to tell others your salary.
owners/bosses don't want you to bc it helps keeps salaries down. it would be foolish not to share it.
📻 🐸 ☕ ⚾
I can't believe his name was so close to Herman Munster
stern is revolting 🤮
Why?
He's doing fine.
I agree..
I don't believe a word Reggie says. Ever. His reputation preceeds him.
However you feel you cannot deny the man’s resumé
Some people should just end it.. what a miserable person
You're entitled to your opinion, notwithstanding how non-germane it is...
He Absolutely Was the Straw that Stirred the Drink...Mr. October..NO DOUBT!!!!

God damn Germans have nothing to do with it. 😎
Those Yankees were TOUGH
Sacrificed him they did!
Reggie is lucky he wasn't on Thurman's fatal flight.
Duh, ya think?! 😅
Thurman was practicing takeoffs and landings. Why would Reggie be there?
Jeez, you know way more about it than I do. I just know he died in an aviation accident.
