George Steinbrenner once said "Good Day" to me once and I replied: "Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. Billy Crystal tells a couple of Dimaggio stories in his bio that aren't at all flattering. He feels that Willie Mays was a better ballplayer, coming from a Yankee fan.
Crystal is also a braindead liberal, so it would stand to reason that he would favor the black player. Musical and Ted Williams both felt that DiMaggio was the best player ever to play the game. When did Billy Crystals's opinion of an athlete become any more valid than any other civilian's.
Willie Mays was my very first sports idol and to this day, which is a couple of weeks after Willie's passing, I still believe that he is the greatest all around player of all time.
Being Mr. October probably gets you some leeway, plus I'm guessing he was competent at whatever role he had, as Steinbrenner would have eventually either fired him or sent him out to scout little leaguers if he wasn't.
I’d love to hear more Reggie stories.
Loved the Di Maggio story
@@wokkie1999 did he charge you to read it?… nothing free with him
As much as George argued with his managers and players in the end he was a true fan.
Detroit fans called Steinbrenner, “The Mistake From the Lake.” 😆
The Yankee Clipper was from the Greatest Generation, all of them were "frugal" due to their collective experience in the Great Depression
That's right. ...Very true.
One thing for sure, George Steinbrenner was consistent.
The Man 💯
Reggie is still fabulous....
DiMaggio played before the era of free agency and big money contracts. Many players had jobs outside of baseball to make ends meet

Reggie's a lot more likeable nowadays than he was in his later years as a player
I think he was always a sensitive guy and that he hid that under a layer of ridiculous confidence and the sunglasses, moustache and afro.

Joe played golf & cards for money, never paid when he lost, per my pop.
