A six-year-old girl who dreamed of visiting her older sister in New York burst into tears of joy when her parents surprised her with a trip to the Big Apple as a way of celebrating her academic success. Skylar Maxwell, from Jonesboro, Georgia, looks up to older sister, Keyara, 21, who moved to New York to study at Suny Cobleskill State University. Due to Keyara's academic commitments, she and Skylar hadn’t seen each other in person for two years, and so the siblings would make do with chatting over FaceTime. But the digital connection didn't live up to spending time together, and during the two years Skylar would reiterate she’d like to travel to New York one day to see her sister. In February, Keyara received news she was set to graduate university a year early, so her mom, Star, and dad, Tarik, decided to plan a trip. They noticed the date of Keyara's ceremony was a few days after Skylar's own graduation, and so the timing worked out perfectly for a big surprise. Skylar had shown a stellar academic record for the year, Star said, attending a dual language school, scoring high on tests, and being accepted into a gifted program. This provided a perfect reason for the surprise, which Star and Tarik disguised by saying Tarik was heading out of town on business and needed to head to the airport. On May 17, with Skylar expecting to say goodbye to her father at Hartsfield Jackson Airport, she was then given the news of where her dad - and she - were really headed.

Here's my story... growing up we were very poor, lots of times we'd go to bed with nothing to eat. When I was 3, my older Sisters were 14 &15, they would bring their lunch or lunch they may have gotten from other students, home for me. Also, when my Mother would cook stewed ANYTHING, I wouldn't eat, anything swimming in gravy was disgusting to me, (growing up, if you didn't eat what was prepared, you just didn't eat)but whenever my big Sisters would cook, they would fry mine and give it to me, the way I liked, and would then say,, "and don't tell Momma" LOL!!
Anyway, I'm now 58 years old, and have only 1 of my Sisters still with me, she's 70 years old, and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for her!

My little sister and I are 27 years apart and she acts just like this with me!! We live far apart as well so our reunions a couple times a year always go something like this!! Leaving her is literally the hardest part 😢 being an only child all my life, i never knew how deep that sibling love is! Grateful to experience it even more now being in my early 30s with no children yet! Siblings are truly a blessing no matter the timing!!

When I went to college it was sooo hard for my baby brother. And I only went to college 20 miles away. I’d walk home to him sleeping curled up in front of the front door. My mom said he would fight her so he could greet me home. Tired from school I’d scoop him up and hold him a bit before putting him in his bed. Now I live 400 miles away. When I visit if I get anywhere near the front door he’s already got tears in his eyes and a pout asking if I’m leaving already. There is something precious when you have siblings with such a huge gap.
