      @@ramseyvoicestudio Wow quite a long artile. Thank you! Last time I met my singing teacher she gave me the tip to "think upwards" when singing downwards. It's a bit confusing to me but when you think about it in a more practical way it makes a lot more sense: my beginner's mistake is that I drop my larynx a little bit when I descend in range. So I actually tried the opposite and tried to raise it while singing lower. The result was not that my larynx raised but it stayed more or less in the same place. And the note sounded a bit better than before. I'll keep experimenting.

    Watched this a couple days ago and it has been bugging me to no end. I approach from a classical training perspective and #1 tenet in my estimation is developing even chest resonance throughout the range. This is what enables access to the high range without strain. Of course, I am a bass so perhaps more so, however, you cannot discover and develop your real usable bottom, and that is essential in building a truly great voice, without mixing dark and bright resonance on every tone. Particularly at the bottom: a hint of darkness must always be present. Also make sure throughout the range, on every sung tone to round the vowel color. If you feel stuck in terms of not knowing how to decrescendo a tone, the answer is always one of color, and every tone must be able to decrescendo. In the low range as throughout, this means work with the same vowel modifications that work near the break and at the top. Covering a dipthong from an EE to an IH or an AYE to an EH or an O to an OO can be a huge help, but the point is lack of tension and ability to decrescendo. So for training and practice I recommend the opposite: always make sure the dark resonances are present down low. Perhaps you should have titled the clip "How to approach low notes for performance". From a training perspective you are dead wrong.

    Great video. I am always thinking of a "Church Organ" analogy, were the lower registers require immensely more air to pass by their "reeds".
    Surely this applies to our vocal chords. A lower tone will require far more air to get through to maintain clarity and volume. Surely here, lung capacity and the diaphragm (abdominals) are all important?

I'm a - well, I don't know my voice type for certain, but I'm a low male voice and I always have to transpose about one octave down to sing a song, which works for me - as long as there's no notes out of my range. I found it hard sometimes to even project comfortable low notes of my range, so this tutorial helped, and will help me a lot. Also, it's very nice that you also go very low in your range when demonstrating so we can perceive the difference in sound between the comfortable and less comfortable notes.

      If you are constantly transposing down, that can really impact the emotion of the song. It may be beneficial to try to extend your range higher as well or get more comfortable singing higher notes if you are ready!

    • @delta61
      @delta61 3 года назад

      @@SingBetterIn3Days Yeah, I heard about that. Great example is Glenn Miller's "A Basso Profundo Am I". As a composer, I make use of the emotions of different keys all the time. Though extending the range up isn't something I'd consider because my voice and my sister's voice sound heavy and strained when we're singing in the higher half of our range, and although those notes are comfortable, they sound really unpleasant - something that has less to do with range and training and much more with the timbre of the voice. For example, my tessitura range at the moment is from E2 to probably F3. I can comfortably go even up to a A3, though it sounds unpleasant, no matter how well I manage my breath.

I ask since I did not feel pain (thought it did feel less relaxed/more challenging) when practising but would like to avoid this in the future.

    Wouldn’t a high tenor just be an alto? It encompasses the range? And most men are tenors. Now if I still had my theory books I wouldn’t need to ask. Are there stages of voice ranges? If it’s based off one’s lowest and highest singable notes? Can’t you encompass two ranges? Like a bass & baritone or baritone and tenor? Can people comfortably cover bass through tenor?

    I Used to Be a Good Singer!😢Why do you think that although as a teen & young adult, I had a ridiculously low singing voice for a female and then, as I began to learn how to sing high notes and became so excited to be able to sing so much more, I lost all ability to sing low. My voice actually cracks when I sing too low now, and I bottom out and sound raspy.
