He took me from Chetumal to the Thunderbolt water taxi on July 13 and it was perfect in every way. Fifty US to pick me up in Chetumal and take me through 2 borders was a bargain, so I tipped accordingly. He was also really helpful the day before and answered all my questions, and he kept me posted as he was nearing my location, all of which was extremely reassuring.
Thank you so much! We're doing this next week and this is super helpful! I had read you could just walk from one border control to the other, so good to know that we could end up stranded by doing that! Did you look into the water taxis by the way? Have they restarted?
Hey. So glad that you found it helpful! Yeah I also read about people walking it online so I’m not sure if this is a covid thing but they definitely weren’t allowed to go through without a taxi on that day. The water taxis from Belize city to the islands? I didn’t, but the girls that I shared my taxi with were going to caye caulker & our driver told us that the last one was at 5.30pm (think that was a direct one). Not sure what they would be to San Pedro but lots of people that are in my hostel now did the islands in Belize so if you let me know which one you were interested in I can ask them. Also the taxi drivers are super knowledgeable about the times of stuff & everyone is really keen to help you so you’ll have no problems figuring it out once you are here!
Excellent explanation of the border crossing. I did hear about people being charged $180usd to get across the border if they didn’t pre book a taxi. Do you know the latest situation for non fully vaccinated travellers? Great video. Thanks. Also if you entered a break down of costs and travel time in the description would be an excellent idea. Safe travels
Thank you. Yeah if you aren’t vaccinated you are still allowed to enter but you need a negative PCR or antigen test taken less than 3 days before you plan to cross. They didn’t ask to see most peoples vaccination proof but I had mine in my hand so they did ask to see it. Probably not worth risking not having a test though just in case they ask you. Great idea about the costs, thanks. Will update in the morning. On a side note - if you are planning to cross into Guatemala after then you definitely need to have the test because they thoroughly inspect everyone’s vaccination proof/test results.
If you pre arrange a taxi to cross the border then they will drop you to corozal bus station. From here you can get the local buses to San Ignacio. They are very cheap. The taxi driver will likely know all the bus times off the top of his head but if not then just ask at the bus station, everyone is super friendly & keen to help as long as you are polite. From memory a bus leaves every hour on the hour to go to belize city & then you’d get another one to San Ignacio but I’m not sure what time that would be as I changed in orange walk
‘If unable to show proof or if unvaccinated, the traveller must present proof of a negative PCR result taken within 72 hours of arrival or a negative Antigen Rapid test taken within 48 hours of arrival. A test can be administered by the Ministry responsible for health at the airport.’ That’s from the belize government website but they didn’t ask the people that I was with to show proof of their vaccinations so you could take a chance & just hope that they don’t ask you & then if they do ask you’ll just have to get a test there which is 50usd & they only accept cash
Thank you Daisy

@@Daisy-gj1qr OK, thank you!! Did you negotiate the price or accept the one offered straight away? :)
@@nathalielarsen2198 I just accepted the price because it seemed quite good! Probably should’ve negotiated tho. Have you made the trip yet?
Hey! This was so helpful! I do have a question though, you mentioned an FMM for when you went through the immigration office. What is that, the FMM?
