One neat bit straight from Donald Pleasance: at the end, the script had Loomis reacting with horrified surprise that Michael's body was gone. Pleasance suggested he should instead have an expression suggesting that's exactly what he was expecting, because such a pure embodiment of evil could never be killed so easily.
It's always interesting to me that younger reviewers are shocked at the lack of community awareness and parental oversight in older movies. But really, things were so "loose" back then. Most people, especially in the suburbs, expected other people to be decent. Kids were told to go play and be back by supper and teen hitchhiking was common.

A knitting needle to the neck probably seems like a lot of violence for someone unaccustomed to such things. People like to talk about how badass they’d be in these kinds of stressful situations, but look at what happens in most ‘shooter on the loose’ situations. The majority of people freeze like deer & cower behind things. It’s a lot tougher to be a badass than people think. The scariest thing about Michael Meyers is that if you take the first film on it's own, everything he does has some kind of sinister logic to it. He escaped when he did not only because Halloween has some significance to him, but also because that's the only day he could walk around with a mask without anyone batting an eye, so nobody would be able to get a description of what he looks like. He kills the dog not only to eat, it's not like he could just go to the supermarket without any money, but also because he didn't want a dog barking or possibly attacking him while he lurks around. And he puts his mask back on at the end because he doesn't want anyone seeing his face, again, to get a description of what he looks like, so he could just slip away the next day. Also, if you disregard all of the sequels, it's a great update to the old urban legend of a maniac that breaks out of a mental institution and goes on a killing spree. As well as that spooky old house everyone has on their block as a kid with rumors and ghost stories swirling around about it, all with an underlying sliver of truth.
I enjoyed this reaction to Halloween.... so much! You had me laughing "He is not being secretive" that cracked me up . If he had been driving any closer he would have been on her bumper . This was a treat reaction and commentary.... Oh! I agree... don't drop the knife and keep stabbing . Not that it would do much good against the boogieman but it would make me feel better . Thank you for this so much and have a safe Halloween .
Still one of may favorite classics! I always wondered to how a house that size couldn't put the laundry room inside. lol. Great movie, great actors, just an overall good time. 😊
I just happened to see this on the side of my YT. I know I'm a year late but I had to watch you watch this. Love your costume. This is my favorite Halloween movie! Does no one realize how heavy a tombstone is to just yank it straight up out of the ground? I enjoyed your reaction!!
In 1982 we encounter a killer that won't stay down like Michael in a Chuck Norris film called Silent Rage. In that one however, they gave a reason for why he was so hard to put down permanently.
😃Sam - ur legit one of my favorite people…on the planet(!) bc ur witty & wonderful to the core, m’dear. Stone cold. Lol. Seriously tho - u know how everyone experiences grief differently? Same goes for being scared! Ur (absolutely hilarious) natural defense is to squeal & swear & repeat omg, omg, omg & w/o talking over dialog (thanks esp for that), and encourage the characters☺️. It’s adorable & needed & makes it 100% better for US, the insane wackadoos who’ve been obsessed w/these movies for years. U make me laugh every👏day👏 & I’m thankful for u. Cold stone.🤘
It's a bit hard to wrap your head around how there was really no such thing as a "slasher" movie at the time this film was made, but it was so successful that a whole bunch of other movies copied it, so that now it can unfortunately come off as extremely formulaic even though it was pioneering that formula. In particular, John Carpenter and Debra Hill were very annoyed at how the slasher movies that followed adopted the trope that any character having sex should die, when their only reason for putting those scenes in was because it was something that would believably be distracting horny teenagers enough for Michael to sneak up on them.
The thing you need to know about Michael Myers is that there’s no explanation for what he is like why or how he chooses his victims, why he can’t die, why he doesn’t speak, the best explanation is that he’s pure evil and we’re just supposed to roll with the mystery
Yes you called it. He's still not dead because this was the first Halloween movie. There are 6-10 more Halloween movies with Michael Myers AND Jamie Leigh Curtis in them. haha
Great reaction Sam! This was one of the first horror films I was introduced to, the score made this movie so much more scarier for me back in the day. I also used this film as inspiration to scare the shit out of my cousin Larry as he has the misfortune of having his birthday on wait for it.....Halloween. hehe
There's lots of kids playing pranks. That's what they figured this one. In Halloween 2 on radio they said this. Plus there are real life cases of someone banging on doors wanting to be let in or help and end up Breaking in and killing whoever that opened the door. They could have called cops but even cops be like it's just pranks. There's pranks happening everywhere. They don't have enough cops to answer all these calls at same time lol. It's a small town where nothing ever happened except michaelmyers lol
Well, do keep in mind that Michael Myers has the mind of a six-year-old with the unimaginable strength of a huge man. Plus I don't think he gives a shit about being inconspicuous.😂😅
There was an episode from the 1950s radio show Tales of the Texas Rangers where a Michael Meyers type person escaped an asylum. He worked his way back to his hometown and knifed women along the way. He wanted to kill a former teacher and hid in The school overnight to attack her the next day. The radio show scripts were based of of actual cases from the Texas Rangers.
I enjoyed your costume and reaction. This scared me when I saw it, it still gives me chills. The actress who plays Laurie's friend is PJ Soles. She was in Carrie and Rock and Roll High School. Two more moves you should see. We'll have fun and Happy Halloween 🎃.
Loved this movie as a kid, but I have to admit loved the sneak 100 had to watch it couple of times lol. At the same time I did think the same how he's out in the open and literally no one noticed except for the kid lmao.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😉 I glad you enjoyed it as much as I did! It's an influential horror slasher film that still stays with us.
A total of 6 people actually played Micheal throughout the movie including Carpenters wife who was super short and was standing on a box behind a bush in the dark
They were thinking about calling this COLD STONE SCREAMERY, but since it was slated to come out in October they went with HALLOWEEN for some reason... yuk, yuk...😄 ☺ I'm a lot like you watching this with tons of OH, COME ON! moments even when I first saw it when everyone else was going, Oh, it's so scary. Good watching it with you. Now I have to get the mail. I'll just leave my knife here next to my phone. Ttyl. ✋
John Carpenter's original idea was to make a Twilight Zone-style anthology movie series, where each Halloween film would be a completely separate, unrelated story that just happened to be set on the holiday. Unfortunately, Michael and Laurie became such popular characters that he bowed to pressure to also make the second film about it, which inevitably got the series locked into only being about them in the public mind. So when the third film was a totally separate story like he wanted, people were just confused and the film flopped horribly, and the series has been about Michael ever since. You have to wonder what great horror movies we lost there, especially since every single Halloween sequel until the 2018 film has been terrible.
I agree the anthology would have been interesting but the sequels are a matter of opinion, for me the first 5 sequels are far better than more recent ones especially Halloween 4 and 2.
On the one hand, I agree with you, but on the other, I think this being an anthology series would have diluted the legacy and mythology of Michael Myers. He wouldn't be nearly as iconic of a horror movie villain today if you'd had a whole line of good Halloween movies each with different stories. He would have gotten mixed in too much with the assortment. The Halloween sequels may have mostly sucked, but at least they solidified the character's legacy, which in the long run I think meant greater longevity for the franchise.
I have the Shout Factory collector's edition of Halloween 3 Season of the Witch. They had no intention of calling it Halloween 3. They wanted to call it Season of the Witch they wanted it to be its own separate thing. From the start it's on the audio commentary with the writer and director Tommy Lee Wallace. But the movie studio would not fund it with that name or title. The movie studio basically said in clear an certain terms. No Halloween 3 in the name or title then no funding and no movie whatsoever. So the movie studio made them call it Halloween 3 Season of the Witch. In order to get funding to make the movie so they made them make it apart of it franchise. So thats on the movie studio because they knew ahead of time. It had nothing to do with Michael Myers but they still wanted a 3rd Halloween movie. So they forced them to make it one regardless if it had Michael Myers or not. That's why John Carpenter left after Halloween 3. Because the movie studio kept butting in. They even wanted them to change the ending of the movie. They did not care about the writers or about directors vision for the movie. They interfered as much as possible with the movies. Seriously if you do not believe me after Halloween 4. Unless the writer wrote the script to Studios liking or would change it. He would literally throw it in the garbage then go on to the next person till he found someone who would. As far as he was concerned the one that had the rights to Halloween. It was literally his way or the highway. Thats why the Halloween movies started to drop in quality. Because at that point it was about pleasing the movie studio. Not the fans and audience anymore.
The original iconic Michael Myers ‘head tilt’ , after the Bob kill. This move has been (and continues to be) copied hundreds of times in other horror movies.
Thats according to you only that is your own opinion. I myself see Halloween 2 1981 as the actual sequel myself. I cant stand Halloween 2018 for actual logical reason. Like I find the writting not good they literally Force Michael Myers and Laurie Strode together again. It's not natural in any way Michael Myers does not seek her out in any way. They literally have to do things through 3rd party to get them together. Unlike in Halloween 2 1981 Michael Myers goes after her on his own. So as far as I'm concerned I do not care about Halloween 2018 or Halloween kills or Halloween ends. Because it's based on a completely Forced narrative starting with Halloween 2018.
Now that you have gone down the Michael Myers rabbit hole.. Do part II next!! It starts right after she goes to the hospital from what happened in part I. Yep..this was one of the first movies where women scream and fall down.. Everyone is stupid.. Everyone does dumb shit..the killer does not have to run to catch you.. Everyone is naive..and the killer NEVER dies.. 😂
You have the GREATEST reactions - and had me laughing the whole way through. Love your costume. I have two more movie recommendations for you. The Net with Sandra Bullock. It's a little dated - but it's a great mystery/drama. And it's a little early - but The Preacher's Wife with Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington is a great, funny Christmas movie. Have a great night
Dont you think thats the best horror movie, it is for me ,it is a big YES for me ,they were a model for slasher movie ,i watch it every years and still love it ,Jaimie Lee is Perfect in is role ,every body shoud watch this movie, it have a lot of jump scared, the music is so scary ,and its not to much bloody because i hate that, THANK YOU FOR WATCHING THIS GOOOOOOOD MOVIE
Well they're thinking of any other patients like he's like them. They'd be just wandering around or something not driving a car going back to town especially since he's been in hospital since 6. And the while time been catonic. Everyone got complacent and their reaction is sort of justified. Cause if someone sat in a chair for 15 years not doing anything they'd have trouble moving around cause they ain't moved in so long. He don't look suspicious at his age dressed up for Halloween lol. Maybe they figured he's doing a prank. That was what a lot kids were doing back then. But what they failed to realize is that this ain't a normal patient. He us evil but Loomis ravings about it calls into questions his reliability to everyone around him. I've heard psychologists react this and said Loomis is bananas. Basically diagnosing him as evil. Even psychopath is not really a accurate term they use to diagnose someone I guess they said lol. Plus they figured no one has the patience to act comatose so Loomis saying he's doing this on purpose makes people give him a odd look. Much less not talking for 15 years lol. Probably figured he's not aware if his surroundings but being si quiet he can see a lot of things like how the doors work the hospital procedure how to drive a car. He played the long game. He could have gotten out of there at any time. Plus it seems like in these movies he has a bubble of stupidity around so anyone in his bubble becomes stupid or act like it lol. Except laurie and Loomis I guess lol. But even they fall victim that here and there lol. I dint think the car was there the whole time. He parked at the Doyle house so what it's just a few houses down. Wouldn't he have heard the honking and Laurie screaming lol. Where was he. It was probably farther maybe on another block. Michael mobedvcar there. Maybe going home but seen Loomis and left the car lol.
There was a story about a woman, Kitty Genovese, was murdered in 1964 in NYC. 38 people lived in an apartment complex that she was killed outside of. Although she made a lot of noise nobody reported it to the NYPD. That was kinda in the zeitgeist into the 70s & imo Carpenter was playing into this trope. It was a few years later when it shown to be wildly exaggerated story
Everytime I watch this movie I constantly yell at the screen “Stop dropping the knife!” . You need to watch Halloween 2, the storyline picks up just minutes after the final scene.
Ya can't kill the boogeyman, Sam.. 🎃🔪 You calling him Sir cracked me the fuck up!! 🤣 I was glad her 2 friends died. Annie cos she was just annoying as fuck. Linda cos she was a bully from the movie Carrie. And I HATE a bully!! Fun reaction. Thx!
With the not my problem house it reminded me of a situation I was in lol I was in the yearbook club in school and was taking photos at a school play for it. During intermission, I tried to go to the bathroom but the one closer to the play was packed with everyone else so I went to one at the other side of the hall. However, not only did my camera accidentally fall into the toilet but when I went into the bathroom, I hadn't noticed that the main door was broken so I got locked inside the bathroom. I tried banging on the door while yelling help and had someone else watching the play literally yell back at me to shut up. Then everyone went back to the play so I was trapped. Luckily, I had my phone but it was about to die, I luckily, managed to contact my mom just before my phone shut down and she had to drive back to the school to help me out of the bathroom. I just had to keep banging on the door so that she could find me. I'm so dang accident-prone, I have many stories like that of stupid situations I've gotten myself stuck in 🤣And for those curious the camera didn't make it so I had to explain that story when telling my Yearbook teacher about why I didn't have any photos of the play.
Jamie Lee Curtis was so pretty in 1978, then 16 yrs later she was in "True Lies", and OMG...a fine wine. How did that ridiculous rumor ever get started?
Is interesting-as a kid seeing this & Friday the 13th when 1st came out, I've noticed a kind of correlation between those who prefer 1 over the other! Many friends who were urban dwellers who never played n the woods or went 2 summer camp, preferred Halloween, yet I & others who had spent time n the stix prefer Friday the 13th! THO THIS DEFINITELY BROKE NEW GROUND & A GOAT!!! ✌ ❤ 🚬
I highly recommend Runaway Train 1985, it stars Angelina Jolie's Dad and Julia Roberts Brother and is a superb gem I don't think anyone else has reacted to. Would love to see it reach a whole new audience.
You kinda have to feel bad for Dr. Loomis a little. Because he did everything possible to keep Michael Myers from escaping. As well as getting out but no one would listen to him. Then as a result of no one listening to him Michael Myers ended up escaping. But he gets all of the blame even though all he could do is make recommendation. It's not his fault no one listened to him.

You can also just take his doctor at his word. Michael is just pure fucking evil.
The best thing is that I can watch this reaction while sewing 🤣🤣🤣
I love the way you say “Oh, no!!” 😂😂
🤣♥️
I enjoyed this reaction to Halloween.... so much! You had me laughing "He is not being secretive" that cracked me up . If he had been driving any closer he would have been on her bumper . This was a treat reaction and commentary.... Oh! I agree... don't drop the knife and keep stabbing . Not that it would do much good against the boogieman but it would make me feel better . Thank you for this so much and have a safe Halloween .
So glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!!
Lol, I'm glad you accidentally said cold stone. Reminded me I have some in the freezer. 🤣😊😋
..."I'm not saying that as a negative. I just think it is funny." I found that very funny.
The OGBojangles: (crying) Was this the film that set the tropes?
RUclips viewers: As a matter of fact, it was....
Love your costume. Glad you enjoyed it. This movie was the beginning of the modern horror movies. Thanks.
Still one of may favorite classics! I always wondered to how a house that size couldn't put the laundry room inside. lol. Great movie, great actors, just an overall good time. 😊
Love the costume! Clever, trying to fool Michael Myers like that, very clever indeed :P
I am in disguise yes 😎
He’ll never figure it out 😎

I just happened to see this on the side of my YT. I know I'm a year late but I had to watch you watch this. Love your costume. This is my favorite Halloween movie! Does no one realize how heavy a tombstone is to just yank it straight up out of the ground? I enjoyed your reaction!!
Thanks so much!! Glad you enjoyed

So glad you enjoy me and my silly self!
Thank you so much for being a lovely bean in this community
It’s halloween. He doesn’t look out of place. Everyone was dressing in costumes. It’s perfect vover
I'd even say that *Halloween,* the movie that spawned the modern 'slasher' genre, really isn't much of a slasher movie.
Great costume and another badass reaction! I look forward to seeing what's next. I recommend Short Circuit.
The thing you need to know about Michael Myers is that there’s no explanation for what he is like why or how he chooses his victims, why he can’t die, why he doesn’t speak, the best explanation is that he’s pure evil and we’re just supposed to roll with the mystery
Fair!
This was a great reaction, but the edits just made it even better, chef's kiss. Perfection.
Thank "Movie Miles" for those! He edited this one 👀

I love you’re reactions sm!!! ☺️
This was a fun reaction. I just watched the movie myself and now I can go around watching my fave reactors react to it.
Largely considered the beginning of the 1980s slasher horror movies.
Well, do keep in mind that Michael Myers has the mind of a six-year-old with the unimaginable strength of a huge man. Plus I don't think he gives a shit about being inconspicuous.😂😅
Fair 🤣
@@OGBReacts Quite right.😂😅
Fun fact Donald pleasence was always two bottles of wine deep before filming his parts 👍
That does not surprise me.
Oh WOW lmao

She made me so mad tossing down the knife and sitting with her back to him. Lol

At least P.J. Soles (Lynda) played a less despicable character than the one she played in "Carrie."
The main character of this movie is the daughter (Jamie Leigh Curtis) of Janet Leigh in Psycho in real life.
Love the costume! So cute 🥰 🦖
This movie is a total classic! Glad you got around to it and hopefully you do the 2nd one it’s very good!
The original iconic Michael Myers ‘head tilt’ , after the Bob kill. This move has been (and continues to be) copied hundreds of times in other horror movies.
Halloween (2018) is a direct sequel to this one, ignoring all the previous sequels, and is actually pretty damn good.
I disagree. I hate Halloween(2018) I feel Halloween II(1981) is the true sequel.

That was a great reaction to my second favourite ever movie. I really recommend you watch the 1981 sequel Halloween 2 which follows on the same night.
Yes! I prefer 2 over 1. The whole series is so much better than the new series. 😃
Halloween II is my favorite of the series as well.
This movie definitely gives new meaning to the term safe sex.
